Friday Fav Five

Linking to Susanne if you want to join the fun.

1. Thankful for a beautiful morning. I am at my desk and i enjoy looking out the window. The palm trees are swaying, there is a bird at the birdbath and the bird are signing. No dogs barking, peace.

2. Thankful that I have a phone appointment with my doctor. Still trying to get over this sinus thing.

3. Thankful that I have been busy preparing for my next Bible journaling class on May 9th. I leave on vacation the 2nd and come back the 8th, so I need to have it done. I am leaning so much! Hagar was the  Egyptian handmaiden of Sarai. When Sarai could not have a child after 10 years, she gave Hagar to Abram to father a child. Once Hagar got pregnant, she looked at Sarai with contemp. Sarah was so harsh with Hagar that Hagar fled to the desert. The angel of the Lord found her near a spring and asked her where she was going. The angel of the Lord told her to go back. He also said she would have a multitude of offspring. He told her to name her son Ishmael because He had heard her affliction. Hagar named the Lord, You are the God who sees me. El- Roi. She was the only person in the Bible to name God.! She went back had her son and Abram called him Ishmael. This is from Genesis 16. Hagar's name means fleeing. The rest of her story is in Gensis 21.

We will also be discussing Rahab, and the bleeding women that Jesus healed.

4. Thankful for the graphic artist that make my Bible pages come alive. BeautifulGoodNews is on Etsy and she has many beautiful pages for sale at a reasonable price. So does illustratedfaith.com

5. Thankful for the gift of prayer. It brings me peace. Thankful for worship music too!

My previous post has pictures of my granddaughter on our worship team at church.

For Today, Update on cold.

Outside my window... dark, it is nighttime.

I am thinking... I have not had a sore throat in a long time. Not even when I had Covid last year.
But something is going around and a lot are getting sore throats. My 2 friends are sick too. We leave on May 2 for our mini vacation in Texas. Please pray we get well before we go.

I am thankful for... cold medicines, oil diffuser, tissue and Mentholatum which I got when I was in Texas last July. I thought my sinuses were acting up and it was Covid. I took a Covid test and it was negative.

I am remembering...My parents and grandparents rubbing Mentholatum on my chest and feet when I was a child. I put it under my nose and on my forehead.

On my mind...Getting well!

I am pondering these words...Listen to your body.

From the learning rooms.... Women of the Bible I am preparing for my May Bible journaling group. We meet on the 9th the day after we come back from Texas. I pray that the Lord guide me and at first, I was thinking of a floral theme. For April we talked about the Shepherd. We learned that Jehovah Rah is the Lord is my Shepherd. I knew I was led to go over different names of God. Then I remembered learning about Hagar and the Lord who came to hear. El Roi, the God that hears me. Women of the Bible is where He has led me. Women we will go over in May are Hagar, Rahab, The Bleeding Woman.

From the kitchen... Food my daughter brought over and the chicken soup my husband bought me at our favorite Mexican food place. I can't taste very well with my congested nose. but at least I have an appetite!

I am wearing...Short white pajamas with corn blue flowers.

I am creating...a kit for my next Bible journaling day.

I am going...to get as much rest as I can.

I am reading...A Line of Grace by Francine Rivers.

I am hoping...To be well by the end of the week or sooner. My granddaughter will be performing at her music group called Rockstars. They teach different instruments and voice. Devon is her teacher and one of the worship leaders at our church.

I am hearing...American Idol on TV. So many kids that are so talented!

Around the house...Quiet, since it is nighttime.

One of my favorite things...Learning things more from the Bible. I use my study bibles and the Bible Hub App.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Rest, get lots of fluids and maybe call the doctor.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...My granddaughter on the left and Devon on the right.
This is the first time I have seen my Audrina wearing ripped jeans. Most of our worship team in under 20 and Audrina is the youngest at 12. My husband took this picture at church. I stayed home.

Friday Favorite Five

Hosted by Susanne

1. Thankful for my morning cup of coffee. It is half regular and half decaf. A few year ago, my acid reflux was so bad, I had to give all coffee up along with chocolate and mint tea. I loved mint tea, especially if my stomach was bothering me. It is good for the stomach, but bad for the esophagus. It relaxes the esophagus and allows acid to burn the lining. It got so bad, I could hardly eat, and I lost 10 pounds. On my small frame, that is two sizes. I lost a lot of muscle because of it. It took a year to recover from it. I still have to watch what I eat. No eating 3 hours before bed, sleep on my left side and manage stress.

2. Thankful to have television shows I like to watch. Hubby and I like to watch a few together like Survivor. I like to watch American Idol and have been on a recording set twice. I also went to and after season touring show. Christian singer, Mandisa was on that tour along with Caterine McPhee.  Hubby waits until it is the top 12 and then he watches it with me.
Luke Bryant, Katy Perry and Lonel Ritchie behind me along with their makeup artist.

3 Thankful that I don't have to go anywhere today. I have a sinus thing going on. My nose is really congested. I don't have any other symptoms except some sinus pressure. The last time I had this, I had Covid. No other symptoms. I might take a Covid test, but it is allergy season, and my nose is super sensitive. My grandson was doing some cleaning for me to earn money. I bought Dawn degreaser that had a fragrance. It made me sneeze and sneeze.. So I wonder if it is all from that.

4. Thankful that I have a teen grandson that wanted to earn money and willing to work for it. He was cleaning the ceiling above the stove and the recessed lighting fixtures. Hubby was going to do it, but kept putting it  off. I am to shorty to reach and I have a neck issue and can't look up.

5. Thankful to be reading again. I read/study my Bible. I am talking about leisure reading, to get away from the computer and tv. I am reading A Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers. She is the author of Redeeming Love that was made into a movie. This book is broken into 5 sections covering the stories of Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba and Mary. These are the women in the lineage of Jesus. Each section has a bible study questions to ponder.

We will be in the mid 80's today and I hope to get outside and enjoy some vitamin D.
Enjoy your weekend!

I updated my Bible journaling page on the link header above.

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Danny's Song (1972)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Anne Murray sings that she thinks she's going to have a son. Is anyone in your life expecting a baby? No, but I am praying for my son and his wife to get pregnant.

2) Back in the 1970s, when this song was popular, parents had to wait until their baby was born to know the gender. Today moms and dads can learn within the first few months whether they're expecting a son or daughter. Do you prefer it this way? Or would you rather not know in advance if you are welcoming a boy or girl into your family? We did not know the sex when we had kids in the 80's. It was a big surprise. But I was excited to find out when my grandkids were on their way. It was exciting to see the live screen sonograms. It makes shopping a lot easier for the family too!

3) Anne is so popular in her native Canada that her face graced commemorative postage stamps. What's the last piece of mail you affixed a stamp to and mailed? Paper craft exchange.

4) She began taking voice lessons at 15. She was so serious about it she took a 50-minute bus ride each way to her classes. What extracurricular activities captured your attention when you were in high school? I loved competitive sports. I liked riding on the bus for games. I was in several groups. Girls League, Student Relations, Honor Society, Usherettes, Spinsters (a group that helped others out, food drive, convalescent visits and more.

5) She studied physical education at the University of New Brunswick and upon graduation taught PE for a year. Did you enjoy gym class? Yes I did. I was in competitive sports in high school (Girls Athletic Association) I played field hockey, basketball and softball. I took swimming in my senior year for fun.

6) Every spring and summer, Anne's fans travel to Nova Scotia and The Anne Murray Centre. There they can see exhibits and memorabilia from her long career, including her Grammy Awards and gold records. If we were to display memorabilia reflecting the highlights of your life, what items should we include? Mostly family pictures, and my journaling Bibles. Some of my jewelry that was my mom's. A few things that were my mom and dads.

7) In 1972, the year this record was popular, Popeyes opened their first chicken restaurant. Today there are more than 3700 locations in 30 countries. Is chicken on the menu at your house this week? It is on our menu every week! My husband also cooks it for our dog Minnie.

8) Also in 1972, latch hook rug kits were all the rage. With pre-cut yarn, a latch hook, and a printed pattern, "hookers" could make wall hangings, pillow covers, and throw rugs. Are you into arts and crafts? Yes I enjoy crafting. Mostly with paper crafts, and I like to watercolor in my Bible. I also took a tailoring class in high school in 1972 and I did macrame and knitting in 1973.

9) Random question: If you were offered the position of mayor of your town, would you take it?
Oh no, I hate politics! Government and Economics were my least favorite subjects.

Friday Fav Five

Joining Susanne for the Friday Five

There are so many thing to be thankful for! Here are a few from the week.

1. A wonderful Easter with my family. My previous entry is filled with pictures. My middle son and wife went to church! We also had wonderful weather, sunny and up to 80 degrees! Yesterday it cooled down and rain today.

2. Thankful for my Bible journaling group which met on Tuesday. Our topic was the Shepherd and the lamb. I learn so much when studying a topic. Psalm 23 is one of my favorite verses. One of the handouts had the names of God throughout the Psalm. The Lord is my Shepherd. Jehovah-Raah. Easy to remember because Raah rhymes with Baaa.  Next month I will introduce another name of God.

3. Thankful for a restful pajama day. I was able to work on one of my studies. Later we watched Survivor. We have watched it for years now. We like to see a few other shows together.

4. Thankful for being able to meet up with one of my friends at a local coffee shop to work on our Bible journaling. Also, time to just share things and encourage one another.

5. Thankful to be able to celebrate my daughter's birthday. She didn't want to go out. She asked me to make her green chili chicken enchiladas. Hubby made a fresh pot of beans. Hubby got mini cheesecakes at Sam's Club and we sang Happy Birthday. I love my family!

Tomorrow I am going to Portos Bakery with a few friends for breakfast.
Enjoy your weekend!

Easter Highlights and Tuesday 4

I had a wonderful Easter with my family! My son Daniel and his wife came to church on Sunday. They had not been to our church in years. I had put their names on our prayer board at church and my older son had been inviting them too. I was happy. My daughter and her kids go to another church now. It was sad not having all my grandchildren at church for our annual picture, but at least they were at church.
We went out to lunch with Daniel and Melinda before they headed to her parent's home.

I am happy the grands left the ears on for the picture. Love the dogs too!

Chicken, lamb, salmon, mushrooms. asparagus, potatoes and salad.
We also had poundcake, strawberries and ice-cream for dessert
after the egg hunt of course!

Then the egg hunt.

My Bible journaling group meets today and our topic is the shepherd and the lamb.

Years ago, Toni and I were in a group called Chatter U. We did a monthly and one was called Hometown. I have the page at my website and the link to the page is here. Click on hometown and the page will come up on the right. Then scroll down.

Friday Fav Five Easter

Joining Susanne for today's post.

1. So thankful for another week which has gone by way to fast. It has been spring break, so the house has been quiet with the grands not here.

2. I am thankful that we see our grands as often as we do. They are all healthy and doing well. I am thankful that my daughter invited me to her church this past Sunday. I met her friends too. A little sad that this will not have a picture with all the grands at church. But we will all be together for Easter fun and dinner. Better than Easter 2020 when there was no church because of Easter. But at least we had an online service. Church is not a building. It is a gathering of two or more that worship God!

3. I am thankful for all the rain we have had this year. California has had record breaking rain and we are no longer in the drought season. The ground was soft enough to make the weeding a bit easier for Hubby. I am thankful that hubby keeps the yard looking nice. It is nice seeing the birds coming to the birdbath and a few butterflies and bees flying around.

4. Thankful for a nice day date with my hubby. We went to Benjies New York Style Delicatessen & Restaurant. My husband suggested it since it was Passover and we could enjoy a few Jewish specialties. Mish Mash and Potato latkes. I really liked the sauerkraut. I added it to my soup and it was great!

5. Thankful to visit our parents resting place at Fairhaven Cemetary. Thankful that they took us to church when we were kids. Thankful for all the special memories I hold in my heart.

6. Thankful for the reason for the Easter season is Jesus!
