Friday Fave Five & Saturday 9

Thanks to Susanne and Sam for the memes, links on the left.

1. Thankful for nice weekend. Hubby and I met my son and grand at the Farmers Market and got some fruit and veggies. The cherries were great. I got some zucchini and tomatoes and cooked them later with onion and then added some mozzarella before I served it. Granddaughter sang at church and that always makes us happy. Hubby and I spent Sunday and Monday catching up with tv programs. We enjoyed the National Memorial Day concert.

2. My Bible journaling group met on Tuesday and it went very well. This is a collage I put together.

Here is one of the pages I did to honor my mom and grandmas.

3. Thankful for Dr. appointment on Wednesday. The doctor listened to all of my concerns and ordered a lot of blood test and an x-ray of my lower spine. Thankful for good insurance! Thankful that the clinic is only 7 minutes away.

4. Thankful for our Retired married group. We had a BBQ to end our session. We won't have a study again until August. We are planning a dinner at the beach and bay cruise in July.

5. Thankful that the grands all did well this school year. Thankful that most of my blood test came out well. I am still borderline diabetic. I am eating less unhealthy carbs and eating more veggies and high protein grains and legumes. I might have to give up milk because of the high sugar content. I am hoping the back x-ray come out okay. The doctor is trying to figure out why I am having numbing feeling in my legs, but mostly when I am in bed. I can go back to the gym, but not overdo it.

Saturday 9: 5-10-15-20 (1970)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here. I remember this song!

1) In this week's song, The Presidents sing about a long married, very happy couple. Who is the longest married couple you know? Who is the happiest? Are they the same couple?
My friend's parents just celebrated 70 years. I believe they are happy. We will be married 50 years this summer. My parents made it to 57 when my mom passed of Alzheimer's. We saw how mom depended on dad. She lost the ability to talk. One day she took his hand and bend over to kiss it. and put it on her face. Dad would dance slowly with her and play their old love songs. It made her so happy. Marriage has its ups and downs and takes work.

2) The lyrics ask repeatedly: "Aren't we happy?" Are you feeling happy today? Why or why not?
As of this writing on Thursday night, I am. Even when I feel down, I don't stay down long.

3) This happy couple enjoys watching children at play. Is there a park, playground or schoolyard near you? Yes, there is a school just down the street. I can hear the kids playing at recess. It reminds me of my childhood days.

4) This song reminds Crazy Sam of when she used to recite the multiplication tables.
Think back to your school days. Was math one of your favorite subjects? Not at all! It kept me from going into the medical field.

5) The Presidents seems like a good name for a band formed in Washington DC. What would be an appropriate name for a band from your hometown? My city is called Corona. It is also known as the Circle City. One street goes in a 3 mile diameter. and they used to have races back in 1914 and 1916. Circle City Band sounds nice to me!

6) DC trivia: The street names are letters, but J was skipped. That's because in the 1700s, the way many wrote their alphabet, "J" looked like "I" and so "J" was passed over to avoid confusion.
Tell us something we may not know about your hometown (or state). Monster energy drinks are made here.

7) In 1970, when this song was on the Billboard chart, The Mary Tyler Moore Show premiered on CBS. The theme song said Mary could "turn the world on with her smile," yet in real life, MTM was self-conscious about her "wide mouth." Are you comfortable looking at photos of yourself?
Yes, I am who God made me to be with the help of my parents.

8) Also in 1970, Dinah Shore became one of the first women to host her own national daytime talk show. Today, Kelly Clarkson, Drew Barrymore, Tamron Hall, Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Ripa all have their own shows, and The Talk and The View are both hosted by women. Who is your favorite talk show host? I would say Tamron Hall.

9) Random question -- Would you rather have a job that has you on your feet all day, or one that has you parked in a chair? I liked when I was on my feet throwing mail and moving around until I got hurt. Then I got a desk job. I liked what I learned, but the job was more stressful with more responsibilities. If I had to do it again, I would have got help in math and continue in the medical field. But at least I was home with my kids when they were little.

Friday Fave Five & Saturday 9

Thanks to Susanne and Sam for the memes. Links on the left side.

It is late Friday afternoon and I finally can post after a busy morning.
1. Thankful to be able to see our third grandchild promote to high school! She started Bright Beginning's Academy since she was 3. She and her classmates all started Kindergarten together. They have had the same teacher the whole time that has moved up with her students. They had a beautiful. intimate ceremony they had which included a lovely lunch.

2. Thankful to all the staff that has made this school such a great learning experience in a small setting.

3. Thankful that my Lifegroup could go out to lunch to celebrate May birthdays.

4. Thankful for the time I can study my Bible as I prepare for my Bible journaling.

5. Thankful for a 3 day weekend so my working kids can rest and we can remember those who served
our country.

Saturday 9: God Bless America
Unfamiliar with Deanna Durbin's rendition of week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Memorial Day was introduced after the Civil War. Originally called Decoration Day, this is when memorials, as well as the graves of veterans, are to be decorated with flags and flowers on this day to show our appreciation. Is there a war memorial in your neighborhood?
Riverside, the large city next to us has the Riverside National Cemetery.

2) Andrew Johnson, our 17th President, was in office the first time Memorial/Decoration Day was celebrated. Have you ever met one of our Presidents? My husband met President George Bush back in the 1980's at a Menudo contest hosted by the city of Santa Ana. home of the country seat for Orange Country, CA.

3) According to the AAA, more than 30 million Americans will hit the road this weekend and drive more than 50 miles. Will you be traveling far from home this weekend? No plans for this weekend other than church and maybe a BBQ at my son's house.

4) Memorial Day kicks off the summer season. What's your favorite picnic food? Corn on the cob.

5) As you answer these questions, is there an air conditioner or fan on?
No, it was in the high 60's today but going up to the low 80's starting on Monday.

6) Though she's belting out one of America's best loved patriotic songs, Deanna Durbin was born in Canada. Is there anyone in your family or circle of friends who wasn't born in the USA?
All my close friends were born here in the USA. 3 of my grandparents came here legally in the early 1900's and became US citizens. My mom's mom was born here.

7) No longer a household name, Ms. Durbin was once one of the biggest stars in the country. One of her most popular films was 1937's One Hundred Men and a Girl, which was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. Recommend a movie that you really like, but don't think many Saturday 9ers have seen.
All the Star Wars movies. Call the Midwife on Netflix.

8) Back in 1938, Deanna Durbin had her handprints cemented in front of the TCL Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd. Have you ever visited that Los Angeles tourist attraction?
Yes, I have, a couple of times. Los Angeles is about an hour from me.
There are handprints on the stones, but you can't see them.

9) Random question: What food did you hate as a child, but enjoy now?
Lots of veggies, but I love most of them now except lima beans and okra. I eat a lot of broccoli and zucchini.

Tuesday 4 & Wednesday Hodgepodge

Wednesday Hodgepodge below Tuesday 4

Beddy Bye

1. How do you make up your bedroom and bed... colors? blankets? Quilts? Bedspread? Comforter? Throws? Pillow? what goes into making your bed comfy for you?

I sleep with lots of pillows. Some are small camping pillows. I have a few different spreads. I need a fan on to sleep. My whole family does this. I also have room darkening curtains. They keep the room cool too.

2. What is in your dresser? Is it organized or messy?

How about in between. one had electronic items, and digital cards and such. One has scarves and head scarves. Another has miscellaneous items. The rest of the 4 draws hold underwear. pajamas, shorts, and pants. My husband has his own dresser.

3. What's in and on your nightstand?

Lamp, essential oil diffuser. and a tray to for my water and glasses. I have a drawer that holds Vicks, tissue, lip gloss, and other needed items. There are two shelves that hold my books that I read at night.

4. Do you read in bed or watch TV before going to sleep?

I do read on some nights. I watch tv there when hubby is in the front room watching his program.

1. Do you know much about (or understand) Artificial Intelligence (AI)? Does it worry or excite you?

I don't know much about it. Like any technological machine. There is the ability to promote good or bad. Depends on the people who create and run it. I think we should have the option to use it when we want. I don't want it to automatically. But I suspect that is already happening.

2. What was the last song you listened to?

Songs that were played at our Women's Lifegroup on Tuesday. I Speak Jesus is one of them. Your favorite movie soundtrack? There are so many that I like. I bought the first Star Wars Soundtrack and played it over and over. Hubby and I also go the Saturday Night Fever Album. The last movie soundtrack CD I bought was from the Greatest Showman. I also like the soundtrack to animated Prince Of Egypt movie. What song always puts you in a good mood? Christian music is my favorite. Shout to the Lord is one of my favorites.

3. What were you doing ten years ago?

I was grieving after losing my dad in February 2013.

4. Your favorite no-bake summer dessert? Fresh fruit.

5. Something you're looking forward to in June?

My granddaughter's 8th grade promotion, Mini vacation to San Diego, June Bible journaling group (theme is weddings and Bride of Christ) Virtual Camp Hope Bible journaling with illustrated faith.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

The days go by so much faster each day. I want to make the most of them. I want to do things with the grands like go to the park, beach and movies. It is harder now because the older grandkids don't want to do things with the younger ones. So I will try to do things they can all do or do things with them individually. The picture below was from July 2020. We had the grands a lot during the summer lockdown. We did indoor and outdoor camping, picnics in the park and fun in the spa. In spite of Covid, we did well. I was able to get read through g the whole Bible that year.

Previous Entry has my grandson's baptism Video.

Great news and Friday Fave Five Tues.4

Linking with Susanne for today's post.
(Tuesday 4 below FFF)

I can't believe that a whole week has passed since I was last here. Life has been busy and lots to be thankful for that I might have more than 5 things.

1.So thankful because last Sunday my youngest grand got baptized! He made the decision himself after seeing his uncle get baptized last month. Elijah is 9 and amazes me with the deep questions he ask me when it is just the two of us. He usually ask about heaven. I answer his questions as best as I can, sharing about hope, faith and what the bible says. His sister was playing the keyboards.

2. Thankful for family that was there to support him. My daughter and her kids came to see him. Really nice since they go to another church. My other son had to work. His grandma and Nana had already committed to an event but came for lunch.

3. Thankful for music!!! I have spent a lot more time listening to music. I mostly listen to Christian music, especially when I am Bible journaling. I also downloaded an 2 albums that I really enjoy from the 90's. I do like to listen to oldies not and then, especially if I am doing general crafting.

4. Thankful for the beautiful weather we have been having, low 70's and gentle breezes. It has been a worse allergy season because of all the rain, but we needed it.

5.Thankful for my family, husband kids, grands and furbaby.

6. Thankful for my lifegroup that meets once a week to go over the sermon and sharing life experiences. We enjoy food and someone shares a song. We start and end with a pray. Many of the women in this group are also in my Bible journaling group which is smaller.

7. Thankful for the Lord's leading with the topics I present to the women. Thankful for the graphic artist and the internet for the artwork used for my handouts. The theme for June will be wedding/Bride of Christ. The women are sending me their wedding pictures to print out for a verse in the Song of Solomon. This is one of the graphics I plant to use.

Questions about your life........
1. What makes you tired? Not getting enough sleep makes me tired. I have good nights and some bad night. Thankful that I am retired!

2. That things do you value in life? My faith in God and a relationship with Jesus. My family, friends and health.

3.How do you want others to see you. To see the real me. A woman who cares, a good wife, mom and grandma(Mema) To see that I enjoy life and in spite of trials, I continue to live life.

4.What do you do the most and what do you enjoy. I think I answered that in my list above.

Tuesday 4, Coffee Time

How about a bit of Coffee questions this week?   Or, if you drink tea ow anything else, adjust the questions to suit you.

1.  What is your favorite tea or coffee? (KIND or Brand) I use to get Folgers, but now using the Aldi's brand. I only drink one cup and it is only 1/2 caffeine. I like to add sweet cream coffee creamer.

2.  Do you prefer your coffee in the morning, afternoon or evening? Mostly in the morning. Sometimes I will get a decaf latte in the afternoon.

3.  Do you meet friends for coffee in a café or restaurant? Often or not?
My friend and I are meeting at the coffee shop at the big church by where we live. We enjoy our coffee and work on our Bible journaling and get caught up with things. We are both busy with grands. My Lifegroup meets once a week and there always coffee and whatever food a person brought to share.

This past Saturday our Lifegroup went to the woman's shelter. Afterwards we went to Cracker Barrel and I shared a pancake breakfast.. I had warm water with honey instead of coffee.

4. Do you have a nighttime regimen before you go to bed, and how about your first thing in the morning routine?   Does it include a hot drink to relax in the evening or coffee to get you going in the morning?  Does it help to start and end the day right? I have milk between 8- 9 pm along with a snack like apple and peanut butter. Then a cup of warm water about an hour before bed.  Sometimes I will have a caffeine free tea, but no peppermint. It is bad for acid reflux.

Friday Fav Five

Visit Susanne here.

I decided to use the snow Friday Fave header since we got snow in our town! It was more of a slushy/hail snow. It went from rain to hail to slushy flakes here, but all out snow in other areas. It did not last long but it made all the local news. We have received record breaking amounts of snow is all the So. California mountains.  It looks so pretty! But it is causing lots of problems. Lots of the smaller mountain communities have been hit hard. All main routes up to the mountains are closed. Big trucks could not get up for a couple of days and stores are not getting supplies. The pastor of the biggest church in the city was snowed in and could not make it back down to his church so one of the associate pastors filled in. Lake Arrowhead is about 50 miles from us. My daughter wants to go to a lower Mountain town called Glen Oaks. It is about 45 miles from us. Hopefully the roads will be open on Sunday.! Here are a few pictures going down Main Street. This first picture is by me and where our city's 4th of July parade route is at. We made it to 60 today. Better than the high of 115 we had last summer! I know his isn't news for you that get snow, but it is news for us!

1. I am thankful that California has exceeded our normal rainfall, so we are out of a drought condition.
If we had not received all this rain, we would be under water restrictions. We have not had to run our sprinklers and my water bill has been lower than normal. Wish I could say the same for the gas bill!

2. Thankful for the Apple Pie and Jesus gathering our Life Group attended on Monday. Phyllis invited to her beautiful home. We all brought food and she had pizza and a relish dish waiting and we brought a lot of sides. She shared her testimony while baking an apple pie for us. We had lunch while the pie baked and watched a show on You Tube that was an illustration of the physical, emotional and spiritual side of ourselves. Phyllis served us our pie with ice cream and it was so good! I have never baked a pie and I want to try this year, closer to the holidays.

3. Thankful for the new study I started on March 1. There is a reading for each day in March. The study is titled Return to Me. The study and artwork is done in the Bible. I do not cover the words up in it. I just add tip ins. I insert a blank page, paper or vellum and use that for my artwork and notes.

4. Thankful for the tv, movie time I have with my husband. There are several shows we like to watch together. Survivor season 44 started this Wednesday. We like to watch, FBI, CSI and a few others together. When I am crafting or Bible journaling, I am in one room, and he is in another watching his programs. I am thankful that we have together time and still give each other space. We plan to go to the movies next week. We have no grandparent duties Friday today so we will go shopping and then enjoy our movies like The Crown.

5. Thankful to get out for a bit of shopping today. I needed a couple of things from Hobby Lobby. I enjoy walking around, listening to the music and browsing. I found a few things on clearance like gift bags. My life group is going to visit a women's shelter in April. We are giving each woman a gift bag filled with goodies. I got the gift bags and will buy ribbon when it is on sale.  I am also making each woman a bookmark.  Most of the women in my life group are in my Bible journaling group. We meet next Tuesday and I am working on the kits that will be based on a house theme.
