Tuesday 4 & Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Do you play a musical instrument? I can play the piano.

2. Have you taken music lessons? What kind. If not, is there one you might enjoy learning. It is never too late to start.  You might be surprised at how accomplished it will make you feel. I took lessons for years. I played a lot of classical music. I had performance anxiety and I could only play at home. When my kids were little, I let them play the piano. My son took lessons for a year, but gave it up for sports. I babysat his daughter and she would sit on my lap and "play" All my grands did, but she was the most musically inclined. She took lessons and plays the keyboard at church and sings. She and my older grandson and younger grandson all play a bit too.

3. Is there music in your home as background to your day's activities or do you have music playing in your car, etc.? If so, what kind of music do you enjoy hearing? If I am not watching tv, I have music on. I mostly listen to Christian music. I do have a few stations I listen to on Pandora. There is a Franki Valli station, a Chicago Station, Amy Grant Station and Oldies. I have a Broadway station. On occasion I listen to classical and last but not least, hymns.
What kind of music do you NOT like? Most Country, Hard rock/heavy metal I really don't care too much for rap, but I do love the music from Hamilton.

4.  Do you have a favorite composer or genre of music that you like most? Maybe you like several. Please share with us your thoughts? I love musicals so I would say Rogers and  Hammerstein, John Williams who composes music for a lot of great movies like Star Wars.

1. Besides Thanksgiving, something on your November calendar you're looking forward to?

My grandson is turning 18 on the 10th. I was there to see him being born and he made me a "mema" He is having 12 of his friends over to our house for dinner at our house after playing volleyball at the park.
He suggested we have extra towels on hand for quick showers. He also requested Mexican food.  He had been helping me with a few heavy chores before he leaves Wednesday-(5th) on a 3-day trip with his school to visit colleges in CA We are having a family party the next day (11th) and his tradition is to go shopping at Downtown Disney and no cake, because he wants beignets. It will be all decorated for Christmas. I am going to a baby shower on the 16th for my niece who is adopting a baby boy. My last Bible journaling class for the year meets on the 18th. I have planned a Christmas craft project for the girls. We go to Disneyland on the 21 and then Thanksgiving. We will start Christmas decorating after the birthday party dinner.

2. Dictionary.com's word of the year is '6-7'. Huh? Is it even a word??? I had to consult the internet to find out it's meaning because apparently I'm old and this particular slang is not part of my vocabulary. Is it part of yours? According to the article I read, it's a viral term, more of an inside joke with an unclear meaning driven by social media. What do you think?
I have heard of it because I have grands. I have seen them say it. I just laugh because every generation has a word or phrase. I was not allowed to say bad words when I was growing up. I couldn't even say stupid. But the "in" word when I was in Jr high was bitchen, and it meant cool. Words change. When I was a kid, gay meant happy.

Dictionary. com says it's selection each year is a 'linguistic time capsule reflecting social trends and events, but they also admitted to being confused by '6-7'. Some say it means so-so and is sometimes accompanied by the up and down hand motion we associate with the phrase so-so. What word do you think would have made a better choice? I have no idea.

3. What's a food, trend, activity, or thing people love but you think is just so-so? Sushi. I like some, but not really into raw food.

4. Are you a tea drinker? Hot or cold? How do you like yours and at what time of day? Do you like flavored teas or teas billed as calming, energizing, healing, etc? I like the dragon fruit iced tea at Chilis. I drink more tea in the winter. Usually a fall spice tea or something with cinnamon.

5. The November Hodgepodge has always included a weekly gratitude question. Here's the question for today-what are three things that make your heart sing? Music, Musicals and my family when we are all laughing.

6. Insert your own random thought here. My incision is healing nicely, and I am wearing scar tape now. It will be several months before it lightens up. I have a few other issues I am dealing with and see my doctor on the 10th. Meanwhile, I will enjoy my Bible journaling crafting and my 30 day gratitude journal.

Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

Another week has flown by! Joining Susanne and Sam for the following memes. Links on the left.

Thankful for my iPhone. I can refer back to it for pictures that help me remember events. The calendar on the IP helps too! I still use a pocket calendar too.

Thankful for a nice lunch after church this pass Sunday! Also for going to my son's house later for dinner where my other grands were also there. They don't like to take pictures.

Thankful for Facebook Memories! This was from Farmville 2010. I loved playing this game. It started with the home farm. By 2020 when it ended, I had about 30 farms! It really appealed to the creative me. I was sad when it ended. I made friends from all over. I learned a lot about crops and trees from around the word. The Hawaii Farm was my favorite! Especially since I was playing it in 2012 when we sent to Hawaii. My dad would watch me play when I stayed with him after my mom passed.

Thankful for a week that I didn't have to go anywhere except Monday. I was able to get my kits ready for my next Bible journaling meet up on the 5th.

Thankful for mild weather for July, mostly in the mid 80's. Not happy about the earthquake we had today(Thursday) Thankful that is was not nearby, but still to close at 31 miles away.  It was a 4.4 and I could feel my bed shaking. My husband was in the other room and he said the crystal in my China hutch was making noise. So glad I am not in a two story. I am from So CA and I have experienced many earthquakes, but you never get used to them.

Saturday 9: Jive Talkin' (1975)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

This month we're going to recall Summer Songs.
These will all be records that topped the charts during August.

1) Number 1 on the charts in August 50 years ago, "Jive Talkin'" was originally called "Drive Talkin',"
because it was inspired by the "chunka-chunka" sound the Bee Gees' car made as it rolled over the bridge from Biscayne Bay to Miami every morning. Tell us about a drive you make regularly. What do you love, or hate, about it? My husband takes one route to church, and I take another. His route has a long light and a big dip in the street. I am usually putting on makeup in the car at that time and that bump gets me every time! The driver chooses the route so I will just have to bump along.

2) Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb always enjoyed singing together and as kids, practiced their harmonies in the bathroom because that's where the acoustics were best. Do you sing in the shower?
Sometimes, but mostly at my desk when I am Bible journaling and listening to music.

3) Early in their career, the brothers wrote and recorded a radio jingle for Coca Cola. If we were to peer into your refrigerator right now, would we find any carbonated beverages? No, we don't buy them.

4) Though their sound depended on tight harmonies, all three Bee Gees were heavy smokers, which is bad for the throat. Do you smoke? Are there smokers/vapers in your life? No and no!

5) Robin Gibb agreed to perform on the CD Sesame Street Fever so his kids could meet Cookie Monster. Who is your favorite Muppet? Elmo.

6) In addition to younger brother Andy, who also scored hit records, the Bee Gees have a sister, Lesley. Unlike her siblings, she didn't go into show business. Instead she became a dog breeder. Tell us about a dog who holds a special place in your heart. First there is my current dog Minnie. Then my grand doggies, Coca and Daisy. Dogs in my life that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. My Reina, and Missy. Grand doggies Rey and Pepper. Family doxie Mandy Belle. This is us with Missy in 1975.
Missy passed in 1992 and Reina in 2010. Minnie will be our last dog.

Reina

Let's look at the summer of 1975.

7) That summer, producer Lorne Michaels was auditioning talent for the Not Ready for Prime Time Players. This band of comedic performers would premiere that October in a new show called Saturday Night Live. In the days before DVRs and streaming, Saturday Night Live was considered "appointment television," a show you wanted to catch when it aired so you made sure you were in front of a TV to hear "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" Is there a show you go out of your way to watch when it airs? Or is most of your viewing either recorded or streamed? Hubby and I try to be home when Survivor is on. But we do record our favorite shows to see them if we are out or they are on too late. We each like our own shows, so those are recorded to see when we are ready to see them.

8) The top movie at the box office that summer was Jaws. Have you seen it? Oh yes, we went the week it came out and we had to wait a long time. It scared me for sure and I did not go out far in the beach after watching it. Later, in the 80's we took our boys to Universal Studios and we saw the Jaws exhibit.
My middle son and his wife went in a shark cage in Oahu's Shark Cove while on their honeymoon. That was back in August 2016. In 2012, my sister and I went on a boat called Pride of Maui to Molokini Crater, about 2 miles from the shore. We went snorkeling and it was fun. If we got to far from the boat, a spotter would have us go back towards the boat. The next day we went on the Road to Hana tour. The tour guide told us they have people that feel sharks early in the morning  so they don't go hunting later. There were also people hired around the perimeter to spot for sharks. I am glad I did not know that until after the snorkeling event!

9) In 1975, Jim Palmer of the Baltimore Orioles was having a career season and won the second of his three Cy Young Awards. In 2012 he put all three trophies up for auction. As proud as he was of the awards, he said, "My priorities have changed," and the money would help pay for college for his grandchildren. Think about your belongings. Is there anything you would never part with at any price? There are things I have that mean a lot to me. But I can't take them when I leave to my eternal home. I plan to give things away starting next year now that I am turning 70. Most are thing that were from my parents or grandparents. My granddaughters have already asked for my teapots and teacups. My older grandson wants my Disney Castle and Characters I got for the 60th Disney Birthday. I have some stamp sets that I will give my son to son. The grands can pick out ornaments. I would like each of my grands to have one of my Bibles as well as my kids. Yes I have several study Bibles and I am about to start my 3rd journaling Bible in January.

Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

Five things I am thankful for from this past week.

1. Thankful for Senior fellowship this past Wednesday. Lot of fun, food, testimonies, prayer and bingo.

2.Thankful for my friend Coreen who lets me take my grandkids to her house for swimming.

3. Thankful for the study I am doing on the book of Acts and the beginning of the church.
Thankful for simple things like birds at the birdbath and butterflies in the yard. Being able to take cuttings to create new pots of beauty. God has provided all these things for us to enjoy!

4. Thankful for People who put inspiration and positive things on social media.

5. Thankful for the Word of God and the things that Jesus taught. Love one another.

Saturday 9: Since U Been Gone (2005)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here. I got that CD for my daughter when it came out.

1) In this song, Kelly Clarkson is dissatisfied with her relationship and she's moving on. What's something you've moved on from lately? It could be anything from a romance to the laundry detergent you've been using for years.I would say stuff in the garage. I am going through boxes that have paper and other products. It is slow going but satisfying.

2) She sings that she can now breathe. Studies have shown that July can be a good month for allergy sufferers because trees and grasses are no longer pollinating. How are your eyes, ears, nose and throat this morning? I have dry eyes and it bothers me all year. My sinuses are a bit dry, but nothing serious. Ears and throat are doing well. I miss swimming under water because I can't get my ears wet.

3) Kelly complains that their romance reminds her of a "stupid love song." Let's be more positive: what love song do you associate with positive memories? So many songs to mention. The first would be Jesus Love Me. I learned it as a little child. I sang it to my kids and grandkids. Romantically speaking, there are lots of songs. A few remind me of old boyfriends, but more remind me of the dating and early days with my husband. Just My Imagination by the Temptations. Let's Stay Together by Al Green, Can't Take My Eyes off You by Franki Valli and the Four Seasons. You Make Me Feel Brand New by the Stylistics and Close to You by The Carpenters.

4) While Kelly's first love is music, she's established herself as a TV personality. In addition to her daytime talk show, she's been a judge on The Voice and hosted an awards show. Have you ever been on TV?  I have only been to tapings of shows. American Idol and America's Got Talent.

5) She has confessed a weakness for Doritos. Would we find salty snacks in your kitchen right now?
Yes, Lays potato chips and pretzels.

6) Kelly has found her weight the source of public debate. Are you like Kelly, whose weight fluctuates? Or does it stay stable? Yes, it has fluctuated these past few years. Losing or gaining 5 pounds is a big deal for me. It is the difference between a size 4 and 6. I need the wait for my rear, but it wants to stay on my middle. I am short waisted so when I put weight on my middle, I feel uncomfortable.

7) In 2005, when this song was popular, a motorist made news in Texas when he was ticketed for driving over 200 mph in a 75-mph zone. Have you ever been pulled over by the police? Yes, for making a lane change over a solid. Another time when I went through an intersection on an orange and it turned red. I was not going to argue with the officer. I paid my tickets and went to traffic school to  keep it off my record. Twice in 54 years is not too bad.

8) Also in 2005, Tom Cruise had a pop culture moment when he famously jumped on a sofa. Do you remember where he did this? I can picture this scene in my head but can't remember the name. I want to go see his new movie and will check if it is still in the movies. Oh, is it Risky Business?

9) Random question: Tell us about a photo you wish you'd taken, but didn't. I always say " I should have taken a picture of that or them or us. After we went swimming at my friends house, I realized I did not get a picture of the older grands in the pool. But we will go back and I will get one.

Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

Another week has passed and I am joining Susanne at Living to tell the Story for the
Friday Faves 5 and Sam for the Saturday 9. The links are at the left.

I am thankful that I have a cell phone that lets me take pictures so I can remember what I have done each week. Pictures have date stamps and that is a great thing along with the calendar feature.

1. Thankful we were able to watch our younger grands Friday-Sunday while their parents were celebrating their 20th anniversary weekend away near the beach. I was happy we could Bible journal. Also that I could greet for 3rd service since she had to sing for all 3 services.  Hubby to her to church at 6:30. He stayed with Eljah and the doggies while we were gone.

2. Thankful to be able to see our granddaughter perform the National Anthem at our cities Memorial Day ceremony on Monday. She sang acapella and then sang again with two of her friends. It was a nice ceremony and we got to meet a couple of Korean veterans there. I have one uncle that served in Korea that is still alive. The rest of the day I worked on the final additions of the Bible Journaling packs.

3. Thankful for another Bible journaling day with my group. Now we will break until August. I will work on the next project over the next few weeks. I look for graphics and put them together with the verse I am covering. We covered two names of Jesus, Name above all names and The Anointed One. We also talked about Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit came to the disciples and friends while they were gathering for the feast of Shavuot, the feast of weeks and celebration of the Torah. There are 50 days from Passover to Shavuot and Pentecost is Greek for 50. Here is Audrina's page she had done with me.

4. Thankful to be able to go to breakfast with our marriage life group. We won't have any more formal meeting until September. We will continue to volunteer at the food panty prep day.

5.Thankful to be able to go with Eddie for his orientation meeting at the local hospital. Out of over 100 applicants. he was part of the 24 selected and one of two boys. The average GPA is 4.2! Eddie was missing a day at an amusement park with his ASB friends because he had to be at this meeting. Mom was at work, so I went. He has to have a physical and TB test that the Hospital pays for. Eddie will also have to leave ASB camp early to be at the 10-4 training day on June 12. The last day of his camp was a day at Disneyland. I feel bad for him, but he realizes that his future in medicine starts here. The kids that start this program and continue in the school year will get a letter of recommendation to the colleges they apply for. All the students are doing into the medical field. Eddie wants to be as surgeon.

Prior to this appointment, we took our Minnie to the vet and she has to have some dental work and a surgery to remove a lipoma on her chest. I am not thankful for the cost. But she needs it.

Saturday 9: Too Shy (1983)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song laments vulnerability and self-consciousness in a social settings. Are you often "too shy?" Or are social gatherings easy for you? I am an extrovert and can talk to most anyone in a small group. I would rather not have to get up in front of a large group now, but I have in the past. I think the biggest group I spoke in front of was near 200 women.

2) In the lyrics, a girl self-censors, telling herself, "hush hush." Have you more recently shushed someone, or were you shushed? I shushed my husband in a nice way when we were watching a movie and he was trying to share an experience.

3) Band member Nick Beggs recalls that they called themselves Kajagoogoo because it sounded like something that would make a baby laugh. It is fun to say. Can you think of another word that you just enjoy saying? "your so shilly" along with a tickle.

4) This was the only US hit for the British band, earning Kajagoogoo the title "One Hit Wonder." Can you think of another artist or band who had one really popular song and then just kind of disappeared?
One of my favorite songs back when I was a teen.

5) Though fame was fleeting here, Kajagoogoo remained popular in England. Lead singer Limahl recalls the adulation as "overwhelming," and he was shocked when he stepped on stage in Cornwall to see row after row of fans wearing their hair like he did. Have you ever handed a photo to a stylist and said, "Make my hair look like this?" Yes, back in January before the cruise.

6) In 1983, when this song was popular, the Lotus 1-2-3 program made it easier for PC users to make spreadsheets. Are you answering these questions on a Mac or PC? Laptop, phone or tablet? on a laptop.

7) 1983 saw Abbey Road Studios open their doors for the first time for public tours. During the first two months, 22,000 tickets were sold to fans who wanted to see where the Beatles made their magic. What's the last ticket you purchased? I bought the tickets in Nov, 2024 to hear Cece Winans at her concert in our town in February.

8) Also in 1983, McDonald's introduced Chicken McNuggets. When was chicken most recently on the menu at your home? How was it prepared? Chicken soft taco.

9) Random question: Have you ever forgotten where you left your car in a parking lot? Yes!

Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

Thanking God for another week of life! Thanks to Susanne and Sam for the memes.
Links are on the left.

1.Church was good, and we went out to eat at Chilis with my son and his family.

2. Thankful for a day to rest and catch up with my Bible study on Monday.

3. Thankful for another good day at Physical therapy and that I have good insurance.
Now I need to make dental and eye appointments.

4. Thankful that in spite of a sore back, hubby and I were still able to go to the movies to see Chosen, season 5, part 1. We went on senior day, so the theater was not very busy and the price was only $7.00. Also, that the theater has the reclining seats with a table. I took in my seat cushion and a blanket because the theater is always cold. We go back next Wednesday for part 2.

5.Thankful to see how happy my grands were to get a new puppy on Wednesday. We got to meet her on Thursday and have dinner with my son and his family. They lost their sweet Rey last September. Rey was our Minnies mom. Minnie will meet Daisy once she is settled in. Coco was happy to see us too!

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this week's song, Lainey Wilson longs to hit the open road. What do you yearn for this morning?
2) She says her heart runs on dreams and gasoline. What fuels you? My hope is in the Lord, I am just passing through and I want to make the most of my time with my family and friends. Physically, I need rest. Spiritually, the Word of God is my fuel.

3) Lainey sings that her heart has been "drug through the mud." The correct past tense of "drag" is "dragged," but in parts of our country, "drug" is sometimes used. Can you think of any other grammatically incorrect song lyrics? This question made me think of my daughter when was young. There was a song that had the words glory, glory, glory to the King of kings. My daughter was saying boring instead of glory. She was young and that is what she heard. We still laugh at that.

4) She tells us her truck could benefit from being dusted off and shined up. Could your vehicle use a little TLC? The outside is not too bad, but the inside needs some care.

5) Before making it big in country music, Lainey supported herself by doing odd jobs, including appearing as a Hannah Montana impersonator for kids' parties. What's the most unusual job you've held? This question brought up a lot of memories. Sorry it is so long.

Each job I had bring back a memory. One summer I worked at a toy store when I was 14. My mom was the head manager of that store and 8 others. I learned so much that summer. I bought a bike at the end of the summer with a banana seat. I was a kid at heart, and it was a dream job.
When I was 15, I was a candy striper. Another learning experience and thought it to be so interesting until a man decided to show me his scar from his groin to his upper chest. I didn't see any private parts, but that scar is still etched in my mind.
In my senior year of college, I worked under a social worker, and she gave me 4 cases to manage. My eyes were opened to the reality of sad life experiences. It touched a part of me that I kept pushed down-feelings.
When I was in my early 20's I was a day camp counselor for the summer. It was a federally funded program for underprivileged kids. My sister got hired too for a long 6 weeks. We learned a lot about life that we did not know from these kids. I failed at double Dutch jump rope, but I could skate like a pro and the kids wanted to skate with me.

I have shared a few things about my job at the post office. I threw mail into cases and got moved to a sit-down job after I got hurt. I was now working in the Nixie section. This is where the troubled mail ended up for many reasons, undeliverable mail, insufficient postage, damaged mail and so on. There were no computers back then, so we had to go to these giant "yellow pages" to look up addresses. For instance, a letter had a name and address and city, but no states. I had to go through lots of books to check for Louisville. There were 13 and I just looked an now there are 14. I had to check the street for every city to determine the state.  Another time we got a lot of wet and fire damaged mail from a plane that had crashed at an airport in a nearby city in 1986. The damaged mail went to several main facilities to be processed because there was a lot of mail. It was a lot of work. We had mail everywhere drying out. We had to separate the readable mail from the mail we could work with. We were not allowed to open any mail. That had to be sent to the dead letter office in San Franciso where they were the only place in California to do that. A lot of mail got sent there. There were other interesting things I saw. People sending nude pictures that ended up torn or the mail did not stay closed because it was not properly sealed or should have been sent in a package and not a thin envelope. Many people tried to send sand from the beach to addresses in the Midwest. Those got messes up in the conveyers belts and made a big mess that showed up processing big time. Same thing with people trying to send coins in letters. There were other things like people sending ashes came through the mail. Where they cremated remains! I could tell you many stories like that, but this is already too long. In 1989 I got moved to the marketing department to work on computers and learned so much more! I retired in 2011.

6) In addition to singing, Lainey has acted, appearing in 5 episodes of the series Yellowstone. Are you a fan of the show? I have not seen it.

7) She loves Southern comfort food like mac and cheese and biscuits and gravy. What's on the menu at your place this weekend? I do not know yet. We usually go out to lunch after church on Sundays.

8) In 2022, when this song was on the charts, Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Have you ever been to Scotland? No

9) Random question – Let's pretend you're back in Kindergarten. Which of these would young you prefer: a toy kitchen set, kid-sized gardening tools, or a mini trampoline? Mini trampoline! in 1960 we had to wear dresses but that did not stop me from being competitive with the boys! At least I had a parachute when I jumped out of the swing!

Tuesday 4 & Wednesday Hodgepodge

Teenage Years...

1. Did you have a teen heart throb? Wanna tell who it was and maybe why? Maybe there was a teen actress you looked up to? The Beatles. Bobby Sherman , Jermaine Jackson and a few more. I had a poster of Clark Gable with Vivian Leigh in my room. I thought he was sexy, even if he was dead.  I liked watching Peggy Lipton in Mod Squad and Angela Cartright in Lost in Space.

2.  When you were a teen, what song  made you happy when you heard it playing?  Did you and a boyfriend/friend have 'Your" song?
So many good songs in the 60's & 70's  I liked Spirit in the Sky. When I hear that song, I think of the kids from my church youth group at my house. We are in the garage playing ping pong and snacking. Bye Bye Miss American Pie was popular when I was 16. Certain songs remind
me of events and some remind me of people. Day by Day was popular in 1972 when I was dating Kevin Dodd along with many other great songs. I really liked Kevin. He would come over to help me with my Chemistry. We went to the Harvest Ball and football games, out to eat and the Silver Ball. we had lots of fun together. But then things slowed down. Years later he told me he was a new Christian and I was a temptation for him. I was happy he told me that. He gave me up for Jesus! He was a good friend of my cousin and my husband got to meet him at her wedding. I met his wife too and she even suggested he send back all the notes I had written him that he found when he closed out his mom's house after she passed

I made this outfit too. Those wide big pants were in style.

Spring Fling 1973
It was music that brought my husband and I together. When I was 17 and he was 18, our church youth group went to the Skate Ranch. I asked him to skate when it it was Girl ask boy dance. Later when we were talking about music, I told him I had the album to a song and it he wanted to come over and borrow it. After that, we started dating. We would send each letters and write names of songs on and in the letter. I still have those letters, and I know they are in a box in the garage.
You Make Me Feel Brand New- Stylistics
Just My Imagination- The Temptations
Killing Me Softly with his song-Roberta Flack
Natural High-Bloodstone
Feeling Stronger Every Day-Chicago

3.  Were sleep overs a thing in your area?  How about sweet 16 parties?   Were they the thing to do or not? I did have a party for my 16th birthday, but just with girls and very simple, food, cake and music. I had just come back from 6 weeks in Mexico and it was a great summer! I don't remember sleep overs, but lots of fun things that I did with clubs in High School and youth group.

4,   You are suddenly transported back in time and you are 16 years old.
You've got school tomorrow.. lay out your outfit for tomorrow and tell us what it consists of.

This is a dress I made. I made several dresses that year.
We could not wear pants until 1969 and this was 1972.
This is me with my dad. I sure miss him!

1. March 15th is known as The Ides of March, the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C....have you ever been to Rome? If so what did you love most about the city? If not, is this a place you'd like to visit?
No, never been and I would like to go, but I don't think it will happen.

2. 'Rome wasn't built in a day.' What project/activity/improvement (of any kind) do you have going on right now to which this saying might be applied?
I am going through boxes and purging things. It is taking time because of my various injuries. I am getting help with heavy things. There are a few projects we want to do, but we will wait and see what is going to happen with the economy and DC.

3. Let's do a little this or that with some Italian foods...
Caprese salad or Prosciutto with melon? Caprese salad
Bruschetta or Antipasto? Antipasto
lasagne or ravioli? Ravioli
bolognese or Carbonara? Bolognese
Risotto or gnocchi? Gnocchi
tiramisu~gelato~cannoli? Cannoli

5. Life would be boring without My faith, family & friends and Bible journaling.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
I love putting Scripture together with graphics. It can be in my journaling Bible, travel Bible or in a journal. I am working on a Lent project. It focuses on the names of Jesus. I am following a plan I found from a group on Facebook. I shared a picture on my previous post.

Here is another one. I purchased the graphic from Etsy, and added some of my own things.

Friday Favs 5 & Saturday 9

Thankful for another week of life
and joining Susanne and Sam for the memes.
Links at left.

1 Thankful for a nice weekend. Hubby watched several movies on Saturday. We really enjoyed watching Ben Hur. It was 4 hours, and it was nice to put it on pause for breaks and food. Church was good and it is always a blessing when our granddaughter sings her solo leads or plays the keyboards in worship.

I know I may sound like a bragging, proud grandma, but she just reminds me of how faithful God is. When I was pregnant with her dad, I almost lost him and spent the whole pregnancy in bed after having had 3 miscarriages. I took care of her the first two years of her life while her parents worked. I rocked her in the same chair I rocked her dad and sang her the same songs I did to my kids and all my grands. So, she God's promise to me to have faith and trust in Him. Someday I will see my other 3 babies who are singing in Heaven now. I thank God for blessing me with 3 kids, 2 daughters in laws and 4 beautiful grandkids!

2. Thankful for physical therapy. My thumb is approving. I only have to go once a week, and I am waiting to see if I will get approved to go back for my back and shoulder. It is taking longer this time for approval. Not sure if it has to do with getting it approved through Medicare and our supplemental which is a Postal workers and Federal plan. Praying the craziness does not hurt us or others.
My hand is dipped in hot wax 3 times then wrapped in a bag.
Then my hand goes in a heated warmed towel.
After that, the therapist massages my thumb and then I do "exercises."
Finally, it goes in a compression chamber that also massages it.

3.Thankful for the taste of spring weather we have had this week. I was able to go outside and listen to my Bible Recap audio. I also got to pick a rose from our garden. I also saw a white dove that reminded my not to worry and I am trusting in God for all things.

4. Thankful for my women's lifegroup and our retired marriage lifegroup. Both days this week were a blessing!

5. Thankful to be going to a Christian concert in my town to hear Cece Winans. I heard her years ago at a Women of Faith Conference. I am so happy to be there with my granddaughter who sing on our worship team and sung one of Cece's songs, Goodness of God. Thankful I got tickets last year because the concert is sold out now.

Saturday 9: My Blue Heaven (1955)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The music for "My Blue Heaven" was written by Walter Donaldson. Mr. Donaldson was a gifted piano player who used his talent to entertain the troops on leave during WWI. What's something you're naturally good at? Being creative.

2) The lyrics were written by George Whiting. He began his career on stage as a song-and-dance man. While touring, he met and fell in love with another singer on the bill. They went on to marry and have three daughters. Have you ever engaged in a workplace romance? No. Well, I was dating my husband when we both worked there, but we did not meet there.

3) In this song, Doris Day sings about a cozy home. Look around the room you're in. What makes it cozy? Lots of family pictures, Bookcase with my Bibles and favorite books. I currently have a 4 foot rose gold slimline tree that is decorated with pink ornaments.

4) For four consecutive years, Doris was the most popular film actress in the world, with fans flocking to theaters to see her. Is there an actor or actress whose presence in a movie or TV show makes you say to yourself, "I want to see that?" Yes, I am sure there are. I love music, especially Christian music. Last year my granddaughter sang the Goodness of God and played the guitar at a recital. It is a song that has been sung by CeCe Wynans. So when we found out she was going to be at a concert in my city, we just had to go. I mentioned it to my daughter in law. The concert is today! My granddaughter and excited to her along with her mom and both grandmas.

5) For all her film and music success, she found herself broke in the late 1960s. Her husband had mismanaged her fortune, something she didn't discover until after his sudden death. Do you know how much is in your checking account right now? (We're not asking the amount; just whether you know.)
Yes, I just checked a couple of days ago and I get paid on the first.

6) Away from performing, Doris' passion was animal welfare. At one point she shared her home with more than a dozen dogs and went on to establish the Doris Day Animal Foundation. Do any pets share your home? Yes, we have a long haired, black and tan mini doxie named Minnie.
This picture was taken a couple of years ago after the confetti egg fun.

7) In 1955, when this song was a hit, cars came with AM radios but they were pretty unsophisticated by today's standards. The car needed to be on and "warmed up" a bit before the signal was picked up and that signal could easily be lost if you were bouncing over rough terrain. Today most new cars come with Bluetooth so you can enjoy infotainment through your phone. Do you listen to music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc., as you drive? Yes, we have Sirius XM in our car and I usually listen to the Message, a Christian station. But it also has channels for the 60's, 70's, 80's and Soul that hubby will listen to at times.

8) Also in 1955, the first McDonald's opened. Does your community have a McDonald's?
I think we have 4 of them but I don't really like to eat there.

9) Random question: How long have you known your newest friend? I have met several new friends these past couple of year at church. The newest one is Sue and I think I have known her for a year.
