Saturday 9 and my School Days

A HARD DAY'S NIGHT (1964)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
I loved I Want To Hold Your Hand. Hear it here. It takes me back to 4th grade.
I liked all the early songs I heard through 6th grade, Then there songs got a bit strange.

1) John Lennon sings that he's been working like a dog. What's the hardest job you've ever had? What made it so difficult?  Pulling/lifting heavy sacks of mail when I worked at the post office. I got hurt 3 times.

2) Despite the hard work, he likes his life and asks, "So why on earth should I moan?" What's the last thing you complained about? Who were you talking to? I was telling my husband how my neck hurts and how my arms go numb when I am sleeping. I called my doctor and she is referring me to get my neck checked out.

3) John was raised by his Aunt Mimi. She meant well when she told the teen-aged John, "The guitar's all right, but you'll never make a living out of it." What's the worst advice you've ever received? Take a loan out to fix up your house.

4) This week's song was cowritten and also sung with Paul McCartney. Paul's father was more supportive of the lads' show business aspirations than Aunt Mimi was, but he still worried that his son wouldn't be able fully support himself as a musician. To please his dad, 17-year-old Paul worked over the Christmas holiday season as the "second man" on a delivery truck. Paul would be the one to hop off the truck and drop off the packages while the driver could keep the motor running and the heat on. Where was the last package you received from? (Extra points if you share what was in it.) I got some Trappey's Louisiana Hot Sauce that I ordered from Amazon because I can no longer find it in any of my local markets.

5) After Christmas was over, Dad insisted Paul get a full-time, year-around job. He ended up at a factory, winding heavy coils to be used in electric motors. He hated the work but enjoyed the lunch hours, eating jam sandwiches and, weather permitting, kicking a soccer ball around the yard with his coworkers. What's for lunch at your house today? Left over pineapple pizza.

6) In early March 1961, the Beatles accepted a booking to play lunch hour gigs at Liverpool's Cavern Club, and so February 28, after less than two full months, Paul said goodbye to factory work. What's the shortest you ever stayed at a job? 2 weeks. I got a job at the Treasurey in the hardware department. Then I got hired by the postal service part time while going to college.

7) Enough about these Brits! Labor Day was introduced to celebrate the achievements of the American worker. How many different employers have you had? 6

8) This weekend may offer a golden opportunity for napping and sleeping in. Do you snore? Sometimes, especially if my sinuses are inflamed.

9) Labor Day traditionally marks the beginning of the new school year. When she was a kid, Samantha was crazy for her brand new box of 96 Crayola Crayons. It even had a sharpener in the back! What do you remember about preparing to go back to school? If you're an educator, let us know how you get the classroom ready for the kids. In grade school it was getting a new lunchbox. Clothes was not a big deal. I hated wearing dresses, especially when playing outside. The only good thing is that I had a "parachute when I jumped out of the swings. For Jr. High, it was clothes, shoes and a purse. It was nice shopping at the new mall. I guess that would be the same for High School except now I was able to go shopping with friends instead of my mom. We could also finally wear pants to school! When I was a kid, we went back to school after Labor Day. Now the kids go back in mid August.

In August I was in a Bible study called Bible University.
                                               This was the intro. page.

This was a challenge page to decorate a locker.

This was one of our study pages.

Tueday 4 & Marriott Vacay

1.Can you name songs that remind  you of autumn , spring, winter or summer?
See you in September The Happening 1966 and also sung by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. Reminds me of a certain summer.

2.Do you like background music when eating or shopping? Do you play background music at home? If I am reading, I like quiet. If I am crafting, I like to listen to music. If I am gardening or in the spa, I have music on. Always in the car too. Lately I listen to more music instead of watching. I listen to mostly Christian music, but I do like oldies.

3.Christmas music begins playing some places as early as November just before Thanksgiving. Do you have a favorite Christmas song? If not, how about any seasonal song that you love? I love Christmas songs! O Holy Night, Hark The Herald,  Mary did You Know and Breath of Heaven are a few that I love.

4. Songs bring back memories. Would you share a song that triggers memories, good or bad, for you? Refer back to #1 Saying goodbye to my first boyfriend and then regretting it. Are You Going To San Francisco, 1967 makes me sad.  I remember seeing my P.E. helper crying because she found out her brother was going to Viet Nam. The song was popular at that time and I heard it that day. It also made me think of the Hippies and peace. The following songs are a few from dating and marriage.
Let's Stay Together by Al Green, Could It Be I'm Falling In Love - Spinners.
Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun - played at our wedding and One Love
Star Wars Theme reminds me of taking my husband to work and listening to it while we drove. They played the long  version and it made the ride enjoyable. Now it remind me of my older son who is a Star Wars trader.

I could fill a journal of songs that take me back in time, tied to a memory, a person. Some make me happy and some make me sad. Music helps us remember. We played songs for my mom when she had Alzheimers and it calmed her. We played music for my dad his last few weeks and it calmed him.

Our mini vacation at Marriott Newport Coast

We have been having a heat wave in California. Our normal summer temperatures average in the 90's. It was 115 yesterday and we have been in 100's for 3-4 days. Thankfully, we were able to join my son and his family at his time share at  Newport Coast by Newport Beach. It was in the high 80's on Saturday and in the low 90's on Sunday. We spent a lot of time at the pool. We have been going to the Marriott Newport Coast for the past 5 years.
We also celebrated Audrina's 10th birthday. This year we did not go to the beach because with record heat, we knew the beach would be super crowded. It's is the same beach we went to for our anniversary.

The Marriott never closed, but lost a lot of guest at first at the beginning of the Covid crisis. They had to follow strict guidelines to keep things safe for guest. So there was no free fruit flavored water in the Lobby. Everyone had to wear a mask while walking in the lobby or in the hallways and elevators. Sanitizer was everywhere. The kids room, movie theater and playground were closed. Everyone going to the pool area had to wear mask. Once you got your seats and went in the water, mask could come off. If you had to go to the area were the drinks, food and restrooms were, you had to have mask on they would not let you through. We had to ask for ice water instead of helping yourself to the ice/water machine. The number of people allowed into the pool area was monitored and they did turn people away from the main pool. I didn't even know they had other pools! Everyone keep safe distance in the pools too.

Saturday my hubby and son Andrew barbecued steak, chicken and shrimp along with zucchini, mushrooms and onions. We had ice cream and chocolate chip cookies for desert.
Then Audrina opened up her gifts from us.

We left after the sun went down.

On Sunday my daughter said they were spending the night so I packed an over night bag and we headed back to the resort. Hubby stayed home with Minnie. We spent around 5 hours by the pool and then went back to the hotel for dinner which my son went to pick up.  We took the kids back around 8 for night swimming which they loved. After breakfast we packed up and left for home. It was a fun weekend!
Getting ready to get some lunch, mask required!

We had to request cups of ice water and the kids decided to play with the cups!
Mommy's were up front by the kids so I decided to enjoy some reading.
