Update and Tuesday 4

Today was a nice relaxing day. I stayed up watching another old movie I record from Turned Classics.
It was called The Best Years of Our Life. and came out in 1946. It was 3 hours long so I watched it on two nights. Hubby and I also watched Gone with the Wind this weekend. Watching the old movies makes me think of my mom because we used to watch them together. I spent a lot of time working on my Lent Faith journaling on the names of Jesus. Saturday I went to a women's event at our sister church and had a great time. We heard for 4 women speak after a great time of worship. Then we enjoyed a great lunch from 2 tables in a charcutier layout.

Sunday was a great day. Our younger grand sang the Goodness of God, It was one of the songs Cece Winans sang at the concert we went to a couple of weeks ago. But even more exciting was the fact that my daughter and granddaughter got baptized at her church. She said it was a last-minute decision, or she would have invited us. My grandson recorded it and sent it to us. What makes it special is that they were singing the Goodness of God while they were getting baptized!

I have a busy 3 days ahead and I got approved for more physical therapy!

March, they say, comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.
It is called the windy month like Chicago is called the windy city!

1.  Has March come in like a lion or a lamb in your neck of the woods?
Yes, we got wind and lots of much needed rain.

2. There have been some awful storms of late.. have you suffered through them or have you ever suffered through a very bad storm in your life? (if so we wish you well)
If you mean weather wise, no, nothing to serious. Life wise, yes, several.

3. Spring begins March 20th and ends with summer on June 20th this year. Any plans for Spring in general? How about the spring holidays?
Today is my daughter in laws birthday and we are going out to dinner. We are supposed to go to our son's timeshare for a couple of days in April. We celebrate our daughter and grandson's birthday on April 16. Easter is April 20th My Bible journal group meets in March and April. Our marriage group  meets weekly. Wednesday we are going to see The Last Supper after lunch. Hubby and I are going to see the Chosen next Friday at the movies.

4.  What are your favorite springtime flowers?  Trees or shrubs?
My roses are starting to bloom, and my plumerias are coming back to life. Our Meyer lemon still has a few lemons, but it also budding. I need to pick them and actually make something with them. We have a lot of succulents, and they are easy to care for.

How about a song with a springtime theme to it that you enjoy?
Easter comes either in March or April and this song makes me think of my grandma.

I Come to the Garden Alone

1 I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

Refrain
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

2 He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing;
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing. [Refrain]

3 I'd stay in the garden with Him
Tho' the night around me be falling;
But He bids me go; thro' the voice of woe,
His voice to me is calling. [Refrain]

Flowers from my garden.

Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

Welcome to Friday's Fave Five.  We are looking for our blessings of the past week and being thankful so that we do not take them for granted.  In the happiest of times or the darkest of days, there is always blessings from God if we take some time to notice them. From Joyce at Living to tell the story. Her link is at the left. Not sure what happened to my font size.

1. Thankful for another nice weekend. Always nice to hear are granddaughter sing at church. We took her brother to the Dollar Tree afterwards. Then hubby and I went out for lunch. We shared some beef soup with rice, beans and tortillas.

2, Thankful to be able to go to my Tuesday morning lifegrop. Lots of goodies to eat and a good lesson. Next week the group is going out to lunch.

3. Thankful that our church has a Senior fellowship once a month. My friend picked me up and we enjoyed seeing our friends and enjoying the food and laughter. We also pray and find out how we can help up in various community opportunities.

4. Thankful for all the much-needed rain we have received. It has been cold too! Thankful for warm robes and blanket.

5. Thankful to be able to see our  second son for lunch on Thursday. He told us that he and his wife are going to Boston next month and New York in August. We are glad they can travel!

Saturday 9: Southside Irish (1984)
Not familiar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1. This week's song was chosen because it's something of an anthem in Chicagoland around St. Patrick's Day. Can you name another song that makes you think of St. Patrick's Day or Ireland?
The theme to Lucky Charms?!

2. The Irish Choir sings that the "craic" is always best among the Windy City Irish. "Craic" is Irish for "fun" and "high spirits." Are you planning anything fun this weekend? I am going to a Women's Breakfast and one of our churches.

3. They tell us that their fathers came over from Mayo, Cork and Donegal. Where did your ancestors hail from? On Ancestry, it shows 40% Native Americas, 36% Spain, 8 Italy, 6% Portugal, 6% France, 2% Mali  1%Ireland  2% Jewish

4. The lyrics mention the rivalry between Chicago's two baseball teams. As Spring Training 2025 draws to a close, how do you feel about your baseball team's chances this season?
The Dodgers won last year! Not sure for this year.

5. The Chicago River is dyed green in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Does your community do anything to special for the holiday?
A shopping center is doing something, but we won't be going.

6. While this week's song focuses on the Irish population of Chicago, it's not the U.S. city with the highest percentage of citizens of Irish ancestry. According to the 2020 census, Boston is #1. Have you ever been to Boston?
Yes, I was there for one day in 2008 while on a cruise. My son and his wife are going next month. They want to eat a lot of clam chowder. I will have to tell them to try some Irish food.

7. On Monday, which is St. Patrick's Day, do you plan to wear green?
Yes, I usually wear something green.

8. Clovers are a recognized symbol of St. Patrick's Day, and a four-leaf clover is believed to bring good luck. Have you ever seen a four-leaf clover? I think so at the store.

9. Black coffee with whiskey and whipped cream is Irish Coffee. What's your standard coffee order? At home I have half calf Foglers with sweet cream creamer. I order a half calf at Starbucks with their sugar free vanilla. I add whip cream and top with cinnamon.

Previous page has a lot of pictures of me from the 1970's!

Friday Fave Five & Saturday 9

Thanks for Susanne and Sam for the memes, links on the left.

1. Thankful for my grands. I miss when we all went to the same church. Thankful that they all go to church, even if it isn't the same one.

2. Thankful for small group. My Monday night group will be reading Battlefields of the Mind by Joyce Meyers. My Tuesday Life Group, My Wednesday Zoom group is using Untangle Your Emotions by Jennie Allen. Our Marriage group starts next week.

3. Thankful that my hearing is back. I see my eye doctor today. I think I need new glasses. Thinking of trying Progressive.

4. Thankful for a beautiful sunny day. I hope to get outside to read. I am still reading from the Left Behind Series. Then I have to read for my groups.

5. Thankful for my tall craft cart with the removable desktop.  My lower back and hips are hurting. I think I over did the exercises. So, I am standing up typing this.

Saturday 9: Charlie Mops (2007)
Not familiar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1. This week's song is about a legend, Charlie Mops, the man who invented beer. Tell us about something you enjoy so much you could sing about it with the same enthusiasm the Salt Sea Pirates sing of beer. My love for Jesus.  I Could Sing of Your Love Forever.

2. The lyrics tell us beer goes well with breakfast, dinner and snacks. Think about what you dined on yesterday. What beverages did you have with your breakfast, your dinner, and your between-meal snack?
Water and one cup of milk. Not coffee right now because of acid reflux flare up.

3. "Charlie Mops" was chosen because it's an Irish drinking song and Sunday is St. Patrick's Day. Do you expect to raise a glass in honor of the day?
No, I rarely drink I hate the smell of beer.

4. Beer is not the only beverage often dyed green for St. Patrick's Day. In 1970, McDonald's introduced the Shamrock Shake, a milkshake made with a minty green syrup. If we were to go out for shakes right now, what flavor would you order?
Chocolate or strawberry if I could have one but can't because of the high sugar content.

5. Legend has it that wearing green makes you invisible to leprechauns, who can be mischievous pranksters. Is there anyone you would like to avoid today? No

6. For all our talk of green, it was not the original color of St. Patrick's Day. Through most of the 18th century, blue was worn across England and Ireland to honor St. Patrick. The Irish switched to green to express their independence from the English. Which color do wear more often: blue or green? Blue.

7. Today St. Patrick's Day is observed all over the world. In Tokyo, it's not a single day but a weekend celebration. When you think of Japan, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Kimono

8. One of the biggest parades each year in Buenos Aires is for St. Patrick's Day. Have you ever participated in a parade? No

9. Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA, crowns a Miss St. Patrick's Day. Tell us about an event you recall from your college days.
Streakers were the rage of the time, 1974. I There was a wide-open space between the different buildings and I remember watching the streakers run across that field. Being the first in my family to graduate from a 4-year university, in 1977. All of my family was there including my grandparents.

Tuesday 4 St

Since Saint Patrick's Day is March 17, it might be nice to talk about it.

1. Do you celebrate the day and is it more secular or religious for you? It is not a religious holiday for me. I usually wear some form of green if I am going somewhere. No plans that I know of yet.

2. Americans eat corned beef and cabbage but it's not traditional in Ireland at all.   In my house its Colcannon and Beef Stew or Cottage pie (shepherd's pie made with beef instead of lamb).. which is more realistic and far less salty.  Do you make special meals for holidays?  What will you make for St. Patrick's Day? I would love to eat a traditional Shepherd's pie! Here is a meal we had last year. Lamb, cabbage and bake potato. I think I would like the same thing this year! I will have to put my request in to the chef,,,,my hubby!

3.  Do you have much green in your wardrobe? Does the color look good on you? I look good in green. I have few t-shirts and a pair of green exercise pants that I will probably wear.

4. In school we put up giant green shamrocks and Leprechauns. We made green paper chains to decorate our
classrooms.  What do you do to decorate? I do have a box of decorations in the garage. I need to look for them.  I have my Life Group in the morning. Rain coming in too.

My previous page has my snowman page. We don't get snow in my city, drove to a lower mountain town to see it.

Wednesday, March 17, 2021

1. This week's Hodgepodge lands on St. Patrick's Day. Will you wear green? Eat corned beef and cabbage? Drink green beer? Have you ever been to Ireland? Is it on your travel 'bucket list'? I will wear green and I even have a face mask with Mickey and Minnie and Shamrocks to wear. We are having lamb, cabbage, potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower for dinner. I don't like beer. Never have been to Ireland and no plans to go there. I will probably go to Sprouts and get some Irish Soda bread.

2. Something you think is 'worth its weight in gold'? My grandkids!

3. Something that makes you 'green around the gills'? Canned spinach.

4. What puts a 'spring in your step' these days? Being outside, especially at a park with lots of trees.

5. Write a limerick using one of the following as your theme....March, St. Patrick's Day, Covid, 2020 and/or 2021, the color green, or life lately. Yes, you can do it.

There once was a day of green

That became an Irish dream

A short little man with a  green top hat

Slid down a rainbow flat on his back.

Into a a jingle of coins that made him beam

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I really was surprised to see that according to Ancestry.com, my DNA has 4% Irish. As a child, it was a day to wear green and not get pinched. The Craft group I am in does a virtual visit of different places and this month it is Ireland. It is interesting to learn new things.  In 2017, my husband and I ate at an Irish place called Ri Ra at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. I had the Irish stew and my husband had corn beef and cabbage.
