Tuesday 4 & Wednesday Hodgepodge

Teenage Years...

1. Did you have a teen heart throb? Wanna tell who it was and maybe why? Maybe there was a teen actress you looked up to? The Beatles. Bobby Sherman , Jermaine Jackson and a few more. I had a poster of Clark Gable with Vivian Leigh in my room. I thought he was sexy, even if he was dead.  I liked watching Peggy Lipton in Mod Squad and Angela Cartright in Lost in Space.

2.  When you were a teen, what song  made you happy when you heard it playing?  Did you and a boyfriend/friend have 'Your" song?
So many good songs in the 60's & 70's  I liked Spirit in the Sky. When I hear that song, I think of the kids from my church youth group at my house. We are in the garage playing ping pong and snacking. Bye Bye Miss American Pie was popular when I was 16. Certain songs remind
me of events and some remind me of people. Day by Day was popular in 1972 when I was dating Kevin Dodd along with many other great songs. I really liked Kevin. He would come over to help me with my Chemistry. We went to the Harvest Ball and football games, out to eat and the Silver Ball. we had lots of fun together. But then things slowed down. Years later he told me he was a new Christian and I was a temptation for him. I was happy he told me that. He gave me up for Jesus! He was a good friend of my cousin and my husband got to meet him at her wedding. I met his wife too and she even suggested he send back all the notes I had written him that he found when he closed out his mom's house after she passed

I made this outfit too. Those wide big pants were in style.

Spring Fling 1973
It was music that brought my husband and I together. When I was 17 and he was 18, our church youth group went to the Skate Ranch. I asked him to skate when it it was Girl ask boy dance. Later when we were talking about music, I told him I had the album to a song and it he wanted to come over and borrow it. After that, we started dating. We would send each letters and write names of songs on and in the letter. I still have those letters, and I know they are in a box in the garage.
You Make Me Feel Brand New- Stylistics
Just My Imagination- The Temptations
Killing Me Softly with his song-Roberta Flack
Natural High-Bloodstone
Feeling Stronger Every Day-Chicago

3.  Were sleep overs a thing in your area?  How about sweet 16 parties?   Were they the thing to do or not? I did have a party for my 16th birthday, but just with girls and very simple, food, cake and music. I had just come back from 6 weeks in Mexico and it was a great summer! I don't remember sleep overs, but lots of fun things that I did with clubs in High School and youth group.

4,   You are suddenly transported back in time and you are 16 years old.
You've got school tomorrow.. lay out your outfit for tomorrow and tell us what it consists of.

This is a dress I made. I made several dresses that year.
We could not wear pants until 1969 and this was 1972.
This is me with my dad. I sure miss him!

1. March 15th is known as The Ides of March, the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C....have you ever been to Rome? If so what did you love most about the city? If not, is this a place you'd like to visit?
No, never been and I would like to go, but I don't think it will happen.

2. 'Rome wasn't built in a day.' What project/activity/improvement (of any kind) do you have going on right now to which this saying might be applied?
I am going through boxes and purging things. It is taking time because of my various injuries. I am getting help with heavy things. There are a few projects we want to do, but we will wait and see what is going to happen with the economy and DC.

3. Let's do a little this or that with some Italian foods...
Caprese salad or Prosciutto with melon? Caprese salad
Bruschetta or Antipasto? Antipasto
lasagne or ravioli? Ravioli
bolognese or Carbonara? Bolognese
Risotto or gnocchi? Gnocchi
tiramisu~gelato~cannoli? Cannoli

4. Of the colors red, white, and green which would I find most prevalent in your home? White
Which one do you think is most flattering to you in terms of your wardrobe? White and black.
Have you ever had your colors done? Is that something you'd be interested in doing? No & no

5. Life would be boring without My faith, family & friends and Bible journaling.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
I love putting Scripture together with graphics. It can be in my journaling Bible, travel Bible or in a journal. I am working on a Lent project. It focuses on the names of Jesus. I am following a plan I found from a group on Facebook. I shared a picture on my previous post.

Here is another one. I purchased the graphic from Etsy, and added some of my own things.

Tuesday 4 & Wednesday Hodgepodge

Thanks to Annie and Joyce for the memes. Links are on the left.

1. What are you best known for in your family or among friends? Being a woman who loves the Lord and who is creative. A great Mema too!

2. Were you popular in school? I had my group of friends, and we did a lot of things together. I was elected to be Girls League VP and Student Government.

3. Would you rather take a drive in the country or shop in town on a day off? I would like to take a drive in the country, but I live in the city and would have to drive about an hour to get to a "country setting." If I have to drive that long, I would rather go to the beach.

4. Are you a member of any societies, clubs or associations or were you at any time?  I belonged to a number of clubs in school.  Did you enjoy them? I enjoyed high school. I didn't get into anything until 1993 when I found a new church and decided involved.

I was on the Women's Ministry Board and leader part of that time. I led a recovery group and later became a lay counselor. I was also a Sunday School teacher. Hubby and I were greeters for 10 years. We stepped down for a number of years to help with grandkids, and aging/ dying parents.  In 2016 I led a group called Finding your Purpose in your senior years.  I have been involved in Life groups since then. I have been teaching Bible journaling for the couple of years. Hubby and I will start greeting again in a couple of weeks since our church just went to 3 services. We are also in a retired married group.

1. What's the last thing you completely overreacted to? Finding out our new credit card for our cruise was denied! We called them up and got it straightened out and they apologized. We only owed $1.00 on it and it was determined that they made an error when my husband called to make a payment and tell them we didn't get the card, but we got the bill! The $1.00 purchase was what we paid for a carry-on hard side luggage after booking our cruise.

2. Your top five snacks? Chips &s salsa, fruit, yogurt with fruit, peanut butter & apples, pickles.

3. What smell always brings back some type of memory? Elaborate. Freh cut grass reminds me of my grandpa David. Beans cooking reminds me of my grandma Louisa. Frying corn tortillas reminds me of my mom as she showed me how to make hard shell tacos.

4. What's something you learned from the last book you read? I am reading the Call the Midwife series. I learned about the workhouses in England.

5. What's the next thing on your to-buy list? Will you make that purchase before the end of the year? The next major purchase will be a new I-Phone. I hope to get one before our cruise in January.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I have been going through boxes of paperwork and shredding things that we did not need. I am also decluttering some of my craft things. It takes time, but I am feeling pleased to be making progress. It is slow going because the pain in my back is slowing me down.

I enjoy looking at the full moon. I took pictures with my camera that I got back in 2018. Here is one I took on Monday night. I wanted to take more, but the mosquitos are real bitters! I took these two pictures with a Cannon on the Zoom. one at 9:30 and one at 11:30pm on the 19th.

Tuesday 4

Let's talk about firsts in your life.

1. Do you remember your first pair of grown up style shoes, maybe high heels? How did that go?

I think I was in 9th grade. Chunky heels were in style. I never wore the pencil thin hills. I was
always for comfort over anything else. I did not have a job I needed them. I remember my mom wearing them. I hurt my back a few times while working and had to wear low healed shoes.

2. When was your first date and do you recall their name and where you went and what you did?

My first official date were in my junior year of high school. His name was Kevin. We started out as study partners for chemistry. I really liked him, and I know he liked me. But he pulled away. Years later I asked him what happened. He said he was a new Christian, and I was a temptation. So he gave me up for
Jesus and that made me happy! I met my husband the winter after in my senior year. My husband met Kevin when my cousin got Married. The first picture is Kevin and the second is my husband.

3. Do you have any memories of your first job?
I was 14 when I got my first job for a toy store called Toy City. There were 9 cities in Orange County owned by Bill Griffith. My mom was his manager over the stores.  I got to work at the store in my city for one summer with a student work permit. Mom would drop me off and then leave to check on the other stores. I loved that job! Harriet was my supervisor, and I learned a lot from her. I unboxed merchandise and found he invoice and price tags. I tagged things and stocked the shelves. The old NCT cash register was intimidating, and he had a tax table taped to the counter. They offered free wrapping with red and white paper. I was never idle. My mom told me always look to see what needed to be done. Organize shelves, return stock, sweep when needed and ask Harriet to see if she needed something done. I was never alone in store.

I loved the book section. I liked going across the street to eat at Woolworths. I would sit at the counter and order a BLT and soda for around $1.00 At the end of the summer, I bought a sting ray bike that my little brother rode and left outside and it got stolen. I also worked during the Christmas break and it was busy! When I was 15, I worked the summer as a Candy Striper, no pay. I did not work again until the end of my senior year. I was too busy with homework, competitive athletics and extracurricular activities.

4. What do you remember about your first home away from Mom and Dad?
I left when I got married at 18 and turned 19 two days after. I loved our first apartment. We were on the second floor and saved money by living on a corner unit. We had a long patio, and it was filled with plants. We had everything we needed. The place was pretty new, and it has a gym and several pools. They had a nice laundry room too. We lived there for 18 months and then rented a Craftsman duplex. We lived in the same town as my parents and grandparents. I sure miss them!

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Danny's Song (1972)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Anne Murray sings that she thinks she's going to have a son. Is anyone in your life expecting a baby? No, but I am praying for my son and his wife to get pregnant.

2) Back in the 1970s, when this song was popular, parents had to wait until their baby was born to know the gender. Today moms and dads can learn within the first few months whether they're expecting a son or daughter. Do you prefer it this way? Or would you rather not know in advance if you are welcoming a boy or girl into your family? We did not know the sex when we had kids in the 80's. It was a big surprise. But I was excited to find out when my grandkids were on their way. It was exciting to see the live screen sonograms. It makes shopping a lot easier for the family too!

3) Anne is so popular in her native Canada that her face graced commemorative postage stamps. What's the last piece of mail you affixed a stamp to and mailed? Paper craft exchange.

4) She began taking voice lessons at 15. She was so serious about it she took a 50-minute bus ride each way to her classes. What extracurricular activities captured your attention when you were in high school? I loved competitive sports. I liked riding on the bus for games. I was in several groups. Girls League, Student Relations, Honor Society, Usherettes, Spinsters (a group that helped others out, food drive, convalescent visits and more.

5) She studied physical education at the University of New Brunswick and upon graduation taught PE for a year. Did you enjoy gym class? Yes I did. I was in competitive sports in high school (Girls Athletic Association) I played field hockey, basketball and softball. I took swimming in my senior year for fun.

6) Every spring and summer, Anne's fans travel to Nova Scotia and The Anne Murray Centre. There they can see exhibits and memorabilia from her long career, including her Grammy Awards and gold records. If we were to display memorabilia reflecting the highlights of your life, what items should we include? Mostly family pictures, and my journaling Bibles. Some of my jewelry that was my mom's. A few things that were my mom and dads.

7) In 1972, the year this record was popular, Popeyes opened their first chicken restaurant. Today there are more than 3700 locations in 30 countries. Is chicken on the menu at your house this week? It is on our menu every week! My husband also cooks it for our dog Minnie.

8) Also in 1972, latch hook rug kits were all the rage. With pre-cut yarn, a latch hook, and a printed pattern, "hookers" could make wall hangings, pillow covers, and throw rugs. Are you into arts and crafts? Yes I enjoy crafting. Mostly with paper crafts, and I like to watercolor in my Bible. I also took a tailoring class in high school in 1972 and I did macrame and knitting in 1973.

9) Random question: If you were offered the position of mayor of your town, would you take it?
Oh no, I hate politics! Government and Economics were my least favorite subjects.

Tuesday 4

You are back in high school... what are you doing after school lately? It would depend on what day of the week it was. Some days I would be on a bus on my way to play another school's Girls Athletic Association team. Some night's we had meetings for Girl's League or Spinsters. Most student government meeting were during school. On occasion I would go to the special events on school nights and usher. Somedays we would go to the library. I got a job a month before graduating and worked once a week for a few hours.

Tuesday 4

It's time again for Tuesday 4 in memory of Toni Taddeo, our founder.

Let's talk about you this week.

1. How are you unique or different from your friends or family? How typical are you? I think we are all unique! Family love is the common thread. We have lost our parents and still stay close. We do have differences in political views but we value or love so we don't discuss politics. We are all grandparents now so we love to share about our families and celebrate each other. It was hard during Covid. I think that we are fortunate because some of our friends do not have that family closeness. I thank God for my  my family!

2.  How do you spend your spare time? books, hobbies, visiting, tv etc I like to read my Bible, do Bible journaling and crafting. I like to watch my medical programs and my husband and I like to watch certain shows together. I am usually cutting out graphics while watching tv.

3. What was high school like for you? I actually enjoyed high school. I liked joining clubs and I loved Girls Athletic Association(GAA) which was competitive sports. I enjoyed riding on the bus to play other school. I played field hockey, basketball, baseball and enjoyed swimming. Some of the classes I had were college prep and some were hard. My worse subject was math and I bombed chemistry because of it.  I had to take a lab science and math to get into the university so I took anatomy and physiology and got an A and I got a B in geometry so that was a relief. I started dating my husband in my senior year and got to go to the dances,  prom, and grad night with him. I graduated in 1973 and hope to make it to my next reunion in a couple of years.

4. This question has multiple parts:

a. Handbag: designer style or any will do? I use to like the designer style. I use a practical, light weight purse now. I have shoulder/neck problems so I have to keep it light.

b. Pajamas or night gown? pajamas. I am wearing a Minnie Mouse Hawaiian  print short sleeve top and shorts.

c. Shoes: sturdy or pretty ? Most of the time comfortable shoes. Mostly sandals in the summer and tennis. I rarely wear hills. I do have some boots and booties that are comfortable that use in the winter.

d. home decor: classic, modern, farm house style, traditional? Comfortable and a bit country. We have a black baby grand piano that we inherited from my mother in law. I have my china hutch but left the matching table at our other house. We kept the granite table that is more practical for grands to enjoy. I use to have the formal living room that was rarely used. I used to have several bookcases and now I have one and the others are used for the grands and my crafts. I am more about practicality. I want my family to be able to relax and enjoy themselves when they are here.

e. Movies: feel good, drama, romance, action? I like them all! Hubby and I watched Jungle Cruise last week and we want to see Respect next week. I love musicals! Saturday my grand daughter and I watched Fiddler on the Roof and my grand daughter liked it. She liked musicals too.
