Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

Thankful for Facebook memories. Fall Bible journaling day.2022
I miss those days, but they are all doing well!

Thankful that my granddaughter does well in Song and is an honor student. The Covid shutdown was hard for kids, but in spite of it, she and her brother excelled.
She is also an honor student.

She and her brother had to be at school at 5:30 for Homecoming celebrations. Cheer team had to be at the assembly. Grandson is ASB(Associated Student Body-Student Gov. & activities) and is spite of being sick he has been involved with classes and HC activities. Thankful that they are both doing well in High School!

Thankful for the beautiful moon that lights our sky, reminding me that God is above all things!

Thankful for my friend Lucia who made us chicken enchiladas!

Thankful for our Retired Group that started back up on Thursday.
It was the first day I had been out in two weeks.

Thankful for those who visit my blog!

Saturday 9: Mambo No. 5 (1999)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Lou Bega namechecks a lot of women in this song. Is there an Angela, Pamela, Sandra, Rita, Monica, Erica, Tina, Mary, or Jessica in your life? My daughter in law's mom is named Jessica. I know a Pamela from blogging.

2) Can you think of a song that includes your first name? Wake up Little Susie

3) Lou sings that flirting is like a sport. Do you enjoy flirting? No

4) While Lou Bega's recording became a big hit worldwide, it enjoyed great popularity, where it was used during televised cricket matches. Do you know anything about the game of cricket? No

5) When Lou was riding high with "Mambo No. 5," Cher invited him to open for her on her 1999-2000 tour. Cher has more than 50 hit records, two television series, a Broadway show and an Oscar under her belt. Can you think of another performer who has succeeded in so many areas of entertainment?
Rita Moreno, Barbara Streisand, Jennifer Hudson, Whoopi Goldberg.

6) Lou turned 50 in April of this year. Are you soon celebrating a big birthday (one that ends in a 0 or 5)? I just turned 70 this past August.

7) In 1999, when "Mambo No. 5" was on the radio, the movie American Pie premiered and was so popular it inspired three sequels. Have you seen any of the American Pie films? The first one.

8) Also in 1999, Walmart opened its first store in the UK. Do you often shop at Walmart? Maybe once a month.

9) Random question – Have you recently fallen asleep somewhere other than your bed? If yes, where did you doze off? On the couch.

Update, my incision is almost healed and I finished my meds. Now I can go outside and enjoy my backyard. I still have to be our of direct sunlight while the scar heals.

Tuesday 4 & Surgery update

Surgery Update.
I have had quiet few days since my surgery this past Friday for skin cancer on my face. I expected it to be worse. I think the shots in the face were painful, but they worked! They got it all with one go and after it heals, it will look like a crease line which is normal for my age. I have to change my bandages and take antibiotics for week. I did have to take Motrin/Tylenol for the first two days. I also had to sleep uptight on my right side so I don't put pressure on my cheek. I am supposed to take it easy for a couple of weeks. I have lots of crafting and Bible studies to do. My new shows are starting back up. I will miss my church groups for a few weeks, but that is okay. I need to rest. The weather is beautiful, sunny and in the 70's. I can't go outside and walk because the sun can irritate my skin because of the antibiotics.

If you missed my previous post, I had lots of family pictures.

How about the subject of Hollywood, it's 'stars', its products and it's effect on the world?

1.  Which of the big movie stars of the past were your favorites? Clark Gable, Jimmy Steward. Lucille Ball, Catherine Hepburn and more.

2. What movie is the funniest you've seen? anything Jerry Lewis.
How about the most romantic? Gone with the Wind.

3.  Do you watch the Oscars or the Emmy Awards shows? Yes I do. I have actually held an Oscar and they are heavy. An old neighbor friend won for a documentary. I think it was called Broken Rainbow.

4.  Some movies, plays had a big impact on people.  Orson Welles radio performance of War of the Worlds was broadcast on Halloween 1938 and people, causing panic and widespread hysteria especially in the Grover's Mill area of New Jersey where the "invasion" took place.

Is there a movie that you were greatly influenced or affected by hopefully in a good way?
I know Jaws kept a lot of people out of the ocean for awhile. I think traditional movies like It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol still tug at the hearts of people. Fiddler on the Roof is one of my favorites. Sunrise, Sunset was played at my wedding. I think the Star Wars franchise has had a positive effect. My son buys and sell original Star Wars figures and makes good money doing it. Gone with the Wind is one of my favorites. It peaked my interest in historical novels while in Jr. high school.

Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

Thanking God for another week of life! Thanks to Susanne and Sam for the memes.
Links are on the left.

1.Church was good, and we went out to eat at Chilis with my son and his family.

2. Thankful for a day to rest and catch up with my Bible study on Monday.

3. Thankful for another good day at Physical therapy and that I have good insurance.
Now I need to make dental and eye appointments.

4. Thankful that in spite of a sore back, hubby and I were still able to go to the movies to see Chosen, season 5, part 1. We went on senior day, so the theater was not very busy and the price was only $7.00. Also, that the theater has the reclining seats with a table. I took in my seat cushion and a blanket because the theater is always cold. We go back next Wednesday for part 2.

5.Thankful to see how happy my grands were to get a new puppy on Wednesday. We got to meet her on Thursday and have dinner with my son and his family. They lost their sweet Rey last September. Rey was our Minnies mom. Minnie will meet Daisy once she is settled in. Coco was happy to see us too!

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this week's song, Lainey Wilson longs to hit the open road. What do you yearn for this morning?
2) She says her heart runs on dreams and gasoline. What fuels you? My hope is in the Lord, I am just passing through and I want to make the most of my time with my family and friends. Physically, I need rest. Spiritually, the Word of God is my fuel.

3) Lainey sings that her heart has been "drug through the mud." The correct past tense of "drag" is "dragged," but in parts of our country, "drug" is sometimes used. Can you think of any other grammatically incorrect song lyrics? This question made me think of my daughter when was young. There was a song that had the words glory, glory, glory to the King of kings. My daughter was saying boring instead of glory. She was young and that is what she heard. We still laugh at that.

4) She tells us her truck could benefit from being dusted off and shined up. Could your vehicle use a little TLC? The outside is not too bad, but the inside needs some care.

5) Before making it big in country music, Lainey supported herself by doing odd jobs, including appearing as a Hannah Montana impersonator for kids' parties. What's the most unusual job you've held? This question brought up a lot of memories. Sorry it is so long.

Each job I had bring back a memory. One summer I worked at a toy store when I was 14. My mom was the head manager of that store and 8 others. I learned so much that summer. I bought a bike at the end of the summer with a banana seat. I was a kid at heart, and it was a dream job.
When I was 15, I was a candy striper. Another learning experience and thought it to be so interesting until a man decided to show me his scar from his groin to his upper chest. I didn't see any private parts, but that scar is still etched in my mind.
In my senior year of college, I worked under a social worker, and she gave me 4 cases to manage. My eyes were opened to the reality of sad life experiences. It touched a part of me that I kept pushed down-feelings.
When I was in my early 20's I was a day camp counselor for the summer. It was a federally funded program for underprivileged kids. My sister got hired too for a long 6 weeks. We learned a lot about life that we did not know from these kids. I failed at double Dutch jump rope, but I could skate like a pro and the kids wanted to skate with me.

I have shared a few things about my job at the post office. I threw mail into cases and got moved to a sit-down job after I got hurt. I was now working in the Nixie section. This is where the troubled mail ended up for many reasons, undeliverable mail, insufficient postage, damaged mail and so on. There were no computers back then, so we had to go to these giant "yellow pages" to look up addresses. For instance, a letter had a name and address and city, but no states. I had to go through lots of books to check for Louisville. There were 13 and I just looked an now there are 14. I had to check the street for every city to determine the state.  Another time we got a lot of wet and fire damaged mail from a plane that had crashed at an airport in a nearby city in 1986. The damaged mail went to several main facilities to be processed because there was a lot of mail. It was a lot of work. We had mail everywhere drying out. We had to separate the readable mail from the mail we could work with. We were not allowed to open any mail. That had to be sent to the dead letter office in San Franciso where they were the only place in California to do that. A lot of mail got sent there. There were other interesting things I saw. People sending nude pictures that ended up torn or the mail did not stay closed because it was not properly sealed or should have been sent in a package and not a thin envelope. Many people tried to send sand from the beach to addresses in the Midwest. Those got messes up in the conveyers belts and made a big mess that showed up processing big time. Same thing with people trying to send coins in letters. There were other things like people sending ashes came through the mail. Where they cremated remains! I could tell you many stories like that, but this is already too long. In 1989 I got moved to the marketing department to work on computers and learned so much more! I retired in 2011.

6) In addition to singing, Lainey has acted, appearing in 5 episodes of the series Yellowstone. Are you a fan of the show? I have not seen it.

7) She loves Southern comfort food like mac and cheese and biscuits and gravy. What's on the menu at your place this weekend? I do not know yet. We usually go out to lunch after church on Sundays.

8) In 2022, when this song was on the charts, Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Have you ever been to Scotland? No

9) Random question – Let's pretend you're back in Kindergarten. Which of these would young you prefer: a toy kitchen set, kid-sized gardening tools, or a mini trampoline? Mini trampoline! in 1960 we had to wear dresses but that did not stop me from being competitive with the boys! At least I had a parachute when I jumped out of the swing!

Update and Tuesday 4

We enjoyed a nice sunny weekend, and it was in the high 70's on Sunday. We went to church this past Sunday, and our granddaughter went with us after church for lunch and shopping. Then she came home to play with Minnie and practice on the piano. She will be playing the keyboard at the Women's worship night tonight.

The weather is changing, and rain is coming in which we need! I have been busy working on my Cruise pages and I have 3 done and they are linked above on the menu's tab.

Grandson Eddie got his permit today! His car is sitting in our driveway. His mom is getting it insured and then we can go with him as he drives. It will be about 6 months before he gets his license.

I went to PT this morning and my thumb is feeling better. I have more movement and less numbness.
The second illustration is what happened to me. The bone has reattached and not I have to exercise the tendon and muscles to get full use of the thumb. The thumb is still straight, but I have some movement.

1.  Do you feel happier as the weekend approaches?  Just how do you feel about weekends? I look forward to church on Sundays. I am retired, so most days are nice!

2. What are your weekends usually like and do you do anything special?   Do you attend a church/synagogue? Yes, I go to church. Our married group starts back this Thursday.

3. Do you sleep later on the weekend, or do you stay up later at all?  Are weekends for catching up on sleep? I am not a morning person, so I take my time most days unless I have to go to a meeting or doctor or PT appointment.

4. Do you read or watch more movies/TV on the weekends or catch up on things missed during the week? I watch TV throughout the week but do catch up on the weekend if we have to.

Friday's Fave Five & Saturday 9

1. Thankful for my grandkids who helped me decorate for Christmas!

Thankful that most of Christmas is up now. I bought some burlap with gold flecks in it. I am going to lay it on top of the piano and put my large Nativity on it. The set was a gift from my parents. They have each of their kids this set that we all treasure. I try to put a Nativity in each room. Even the bathroom.

Thankful for our married group. We had a great study on generosity and then we all went to Sizzlers for lunch. We always get the senior salad bar. It includes bread, beverage and dessert.

Thankful that hubby has been able to drive me around. We went to my orthopedic appointment for my finger. I was able to take the splint off so the doctor could test it. I have movement now, but I just barely moved it. I have to wear it for 6 more weeks, but now I can take it off to wash my finger and too just make a slight movement. I go back in 6 weeks after my cruise and then I will start PT. Thankful that the doctor was so nice. We end up talking about hair color and when so stop.

Thankful to start my shoulder PT this week and I found out today I got approved for another round of PT for my lower back. Thankful that I have good insurance, the PT is under 10 minutes away and hubby can drive me. Thanking God for all He provides me with.

And finally thankful for our furbaby Minnie who turned 8 today! Coco is next to her.

Saturday 9: My Baby Just Cares for Me (2016)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) Michael Bublé sings that his lover doesn't care much about the theater or new clothes. Which have you done more recently -- attended a play or movie or added to your wardrobe? Movie, hubby and I saw the Conclave a couple of weeks ago.

2) This song was first performed in 1930, 45 years before Bublé was born. What pop song do you love that is far older than you are? Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. (1941)

3) The video for this song features a spinning vinyl record. Do you still have a turntable? No, but I have been wanting to get one to play my albums and 45's.

4) Michael is currently appearing on The Voice. Are you watching this season? No, I have been watching Dances with the Stars.

5) Of all his albums, Michael Bublé's Christmas CD is his top seller. Now that we're in the month of November it's time for you to weigh in: When do you think it's appropriate to start playing holiday songs? My hubby found a station and we are listening to it now. We listen to a Christian music station now that will change over to Christian Christmas after Thanksgiving. I also listening to some channels on Pandora and YouTube.

6) He unwinds by fishing, and he's very good at it. Fishing is a sport that requires lots of gear. Is there anyone in your life that has a hobby or passion that makes them easy to shop for? My middle son likes food place gift cards like BJ's and Red Lobster. My older son's wife sent me a list and Legos was on the list. My daughter will give me a list.

7) Michael is a good cook and enjoys whipping up spaghetti Bolognese. What's on the menu at your home this weekend? Home made soup since we will have rainy weather for a few days.

8) In 2016, when Michael Bublé released this song, the United States Postal Service posthumously honored child star Shirley Temple with a postage stamp. Decades after leaving Hollywood, she served as US Ambassador to Ghana. Could you find Ghana on a map or globe? Yes.

9) Random question -- You neglected that soft drink and now it's gone flat. Do you drink it anyway or dump it down the drain? I stopped drinking sodas in 2010. It is not good if you have osteoporosis. I did drink hot Dr. Pepper once when I was in a warehouse decorating a Rose Parade Float for the Unites States Postal Service in the 1980's.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What are your current priorities in this season of life? Elaborate as much or as little as you like.
Continue with my walk with Jesus. growing and sharing. Taking care of my health and staying positive. Making memories with my family. Having fun with my friends. Trusting in God.

2. What's one thing you wish you had more of? Muscle! Would love some more sit down padding! But seriously, good health and time to enjoy life with my family. I just turned 69 and neither of my parents made it to 80. My grandparents did and my Uncle is 88, my aunt just passed at 83. But only God knows my days.

3. Do you celebrate Halloween? If so, what are your Halloween traditions? Any special plans for Halloween this year? We are actually doing nothing this year. Our church had a musical theater production and all the kids got bags of candy. We have had Trunk N Treat over 20 years that we participated in. Probably good that we rest since I am injured. Older grands are going with their friends. Younger grands are going with their friends and parents. They will send us pictures. I will go down the street and hang with my friend for a bit. Minnie will bark at the noise outside.

4. Last thing you ate that contained chocolate? Last thing you made that called for chocolate? I had a small piece of chocolate with some peanut butter a few days ago. Oh, and chocolate dipped strawberries at my husband's birthday party on Saturday. My grandson was passing them out. He helped make them.

5. Do you prefer laid back weekends or do you like to have a lot of plans? Thinking back to this past weekend... which was it? It was very busy this past Saturday because of the party. Pictures on previous post. We rested on Sunday.

6. Insert your own random thought here. Hubby and I went to the movies on Tuesday to see the movie called Conclave. We left our home late and got to the movies late and getting popcorn took forever. We walked in and it was so dark. People had our seats, and they said they we had the wrong seats. So, we left and decided that we would change our date so we could be on time. They let us get tickets for Wednesday at the same discount price of $6.00. They would also let us get another large box of popcorn for free. We got to the car and I realized I had left my cushion in the lounge area. Some young boys that worked there found it for me. After we left, we stopped at the Dollar Tree so I could get a few more things for my shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. My grandson seen above helped my husband fill a box for a boy. I am doing a girl. I will turn it in this week. I work the OCC table this coming Sunday.  We got to relax and watch the World Series. Guess what team we are rooting for?

I went to the doctors on Monday for shoulder pain and numbness. He put me on some steroids, referred me to Physical Therapy and sent me for x-rays. I see the orthopedic on Friday. They will probably send me to physical therapy.

Party Recap and Injuries.

I ♥ my family. Audrina is holding her stuffed pet that looks like Rey.

I took more pictures on my husband's phone.

The party was a success! I am thankful for all that gave
hubby a birthday to remember!
My daughter got all the decorations and picture boards.
She also got all the things for the candy bar.
My older son and his wife made bbq chicken and albondigas and strawberry lemonade.
My other son and his wife made beans, rice and salsa and chips.
My sisters brought potato salad, pasta salad, green salad
and fresh tortillas from a tortilla factory.

I supplied all the pictures for the picture board.
I usually make something, but they know I can't do a lot right now.

Most of you know I hurt my finger when I fell and landed on it. 4 more weeks in a splint. But I must have also put a strain on my already messed up shoulder that I hurt over a year ago. This past week I moved it and felt a weird pain and then a numbing pain that shot all the way down my arm and to my bad thumb. The pain/numbness comes and goes with certain movement. So, I will see the doctor Monday morning. I am going to ask them if I can have an MRI because they did an x-ray a year ago and that mostly shows broken bones, but not muscle damage. I am currently going to physical therapy for my back, and it is helping. They first took an x-ray of my back in May, and nothing showed but arthritis. I went to PT but did not improve. So, my primary sent me for a MRI that showed the disc bulge and tear. I hope they can also send me to PT for my shoulder at the same place. I am being my own advocate. I am thankful that overall, I am okay. Our cruise is in January, and I want to be able to enjoy it. I do appreciate your prayers. Thank you and enjoy your week!

Tuesday 4 & Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Did you ever eat at Woolworth's?  Yes, I did. There was one downtown across the street from where  my mom worked. I also got to work at Toy City.  when I was 14. Sometimes after U was paid, I felt so grown up. Most of the time I just enjoyed browsing.

2.  What would you order from this menu? I would go there and get a bacon sandwich and a coke.

3. Woolworth's had banana splits and Sundaes. Do you like Sundaes? What kind? I loved hot fudge sundaes. When I was in high school, we would go to Bob's Big Boy after the games. My friend and I always got the hot fudge sundaes. The fudge was hot, it was topped with lots of whipped cream and lots of peanuts. I was yummy. I also craved that while I was pregnant, but we went to Norms which was closer by and cheaper.

4. What restaurants are you favorites and what do you usually order? There is Mexican restaurant we like. I like to eat at Olive Garden and usually get the soup and salad or the shrimp scampi and asparagus over angel hair pasta. I love the pasta fagioli soup. I want to try making it this fall. Our whole family likes a Chinese food place called Hong Kongs and we have been going there close to 40 years!

1. How did you meet your significant other? If you don't have a significant other, tell us how you met your best friend.  My husband and I met in winter 1973 at church youth group. Our youth group went to the Skate Ranch. I asked him to skate when it was girl ask boy. He came over to borrow an album after his college class. Then he asked me for a date. We were married 18 months later and that was 50 years ago!

2. It's Department Store Day (October 16)...do you still shop in department stores? The last time I was at a store was in September, I needed some shoes for a wedding. If not do you miss that kind of shopping experience? Do you have a favorite department store? Kohls is usually my go to store. Any fun memories of department store shopping when you were a child? JC Penney and Sears were the go to stores. I loved the big catalogs we would get in the mail. In 1967, a big new mall opened up in the city next to mine. It was a large two-story indoor mall with 70 stores and anchored by Sears and May Company. My mom took us there to shop. We got dropped off as teens. There was a birth theater across the street. You could also get a bus and go to the beach from there. We shopped at the Wet Seal and ate at the food court. There were a few other nice restaurants. There was a Jewish Delicatessen shop my family liked to eat at. They were fun and exciting but they paved the way to the death of the downtown stores.

3. Something you're currently nuts about? Learning about the Jewish religion and customs.
Today is the beginning of Succot, the 3rd fall high holiday that is celebrated. You can read about it here.

4. What's your favorite nut and is there a favorite recipe where this nut is used? I like to eat the roasted almond slivers from Trader Joes. I can add them to yogurt or salads. I usually eat them plain. I love their no sugar no salt organic Valencia peanut butter. I usually eat it with apples.

5. On Wednesday we officially reach the '70 days until Christmas' mark. Have you purchased any gifts? If you don't celebrate Christmas, then how about Hanukkah presents? I have purchased a few ornaments. I give all my family members a new ornament each year. I will be teaching my Bible journaling group about Hanukkah which begins on Christmas this year.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  Physical therapy for my back is going well. My face biopsy is healing well along with the other spot. I will have to have a nitro freeze over the biopsy site to make sure the margins are taken care of. I went to the orthopedic doctor on Monday and have to wear a splint on my thumb for 6vweeks. When I fell on my wrist/thumb, the tendon that attaches to the top joint was pulled, taking some bone with it. The splint well help it heal so that I can bend it again. You need a thumb to grasp. The lower part of the thumb is healing. I am thankful it was my left hand and thankful I can type!
