Frday Fave Five and Saturday 9

It's hard to believe I was in Oregon a week ago today. Time goes by so quickly!

I am going out of town for a few days with hubby for my 50th class reunion.
Posting both Friday Fave Five and Saturday 9. Links on the left.

1.I am thankful that I got to go on this trip with my friends! There were so many beautiful sites.
This was the view from our room at the Riverside Inn.

2. For all the great food we had each day. The Riverside Inn had a great breakfast each morning. We ate a late lunch each day at some great restaurants. Desert too!

3. For being able to meet up with my online friend Theresa. We met in a crafty group and are also in the Bible journaling group called Illustrated Faith.

4. The jet ride on the Rogue River and trip to the Lighthouse I mentioned in my previous post.

5. God's beauty everywhere, in spite of the nearby fires and heat.

Saturday 9: My Sharona (1979)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The Knack's lead singer Doug Fieger wrote this song for his girlfriend, Sharona Alperin. That's Sharona on the record sleeve shown here. Who took the most recent photo of you? Linda took a group  selfie with my friends,  when we arrived back to Ontario airport on the 21.

2) Today Sharona Alperin is a realtor in Southern California. (The photo on her website is more demure than the record sleeve.) She specializes in high-end properties. Have you ever attended an open house, not because you were interested in purchasing the property but because you were curious about the inside? Yes.

3) Doug Fieger's brother is Geoffrey Fieger, a prominent attorney in Detroit. Have you ever consulted a lawyer? Yes, when we did our living trust.

4) The Knack's record producer was Jimmy Miller, who also worked with The Rolling Stones. What's your favorite Rolling Stones song? Ruby Tuesday 1967, I was in 7th grade. I like the beat to Honky Tonk Woman.

5) In 1994, more than a decade after its initial release, "My Sharona" became popular with a new audience because it was included on the soundtrack of the movie Reality Bites. What's the most recent movie you watched? At the movies:Indiana Jones.

6) President George W. Bush said he loved listening to "My Sharona" on his headphones while riding his bike. Do you often have music on when you exercise? Yes and when I am working on a crafty project.

7) In 1979, when this song was popular, the CBS TV show Alice was a hit. It was about a widowed mom who made ends meet working in a diner. Have you ever worked at a restaurant? No.

8) Also in 1979, the Voyager spacecraft sent back photos of Jupiter and its rings. Without looking it up, can you name all the planets in our solar system? Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. I know they say Pluto is not a planet, but it was when I learned about the Solar System.

9) Random question: If you could erase your most painful day from your memory, would you do it?
I have a few, but losing my first baby would be first. I could not erase the 2nd two I lost, because my son would not have been born.

Tuesday 4 & Oregon Vacay

♫Summer time and the living is easy says the song.
So how is summer going for you? Let's talk about it.....

1. How has it been so far? Great! I just got back from a vacation to Oregon with my friends. We left last Tuesday at 6am. We landed in Eugene Oregon and headed to Grants Pass. There were so many trees! We stayed at the Riverside and we had a river view.
This is the Rogue River and we could see the jets go by from our view.

The Hellgate Jetboat Excursions is a company that offers jet boat rides down the wild and scenic Rogue River through the Historic Hellgate Canyon. The name “Hellgate” comes from the narrowest part of the canyon where the river flows through a narrow channel of rock only 22 feet wide. The name was given by early pioneers who had to navigate through this treacherous section of the river. The jet boat ride is a fully narrated excursion where guests can take in the sights and sounds of native wildlife as they glide inches above the river. (Info from Bing)

I am in the second row wearing the white hat. We did get wet!

These films had scenes filmed on the Rogue River.

2. What have you been doing this summer? We mostly stay in because the weather is hot and the mosquitoes out. I went to my sister's house last month and will go again in September. My grand daughter and I celebrated our birthdays on August 12th and we had a wonderful family dinner to celebrate. Hubby and I celebrated 49 years of marriage at the Mission Inn in Riverside California.

3. What are you going to do? Any plans? Hubby and I are going to my high school reunion this Saturday in my hometown. We will spend the night and then go to the Newport Beach for on Sunday.  Though the grands are back in school, it is still summer to me. When I was a kid, we went back to school after Labor Day. Summer weather last until mid-October here is So California. Speaking of Newport, we visited Newport Oregon and saw the Yaquina Lighthouse. Our entry to the park was free since we went on the 150th anniversary of the lighthouse.

4. It's been hot in most of the country but here on the Jersey coast it's been perfect so far. Not too hot, not too cool but just right with breezes.   How are you weathering the heat. Any tips on staying cool on hot, humid days?  Clothing, food, drinks, fans, air conditioning? Let us know your secrets to keeping cooler. I wear shorts and tanks around the house. I wear capris when I am out and about. I like to wear dresses to church. We run the air throughout the day. We also use fans to stay cool and to help us sleep.
