Tuesday 4 & Sunday Stealing

Let's talk about food this week shall we? Most people enjoy eating good food after all.

1.What is/are your favorite foods to eat? Homemade tacos with my mom's recipe.
It includes ground beef with diced potatoes and small bits of onion, salt, pepper and garlic powder.
I add it to warmed corn tortillas, fry in hot oil, then drain. Fill with lettuce, tomato, grated cheese and sliced olives. Top with hot salsa.

2.How often do you cook at home and what kind of meals do you make? I am trying to eat healthier. I have been eating a lot of protein to help build muscle. I eat eggs every day. I like salads, that I add chicken or tuna. Hubby usually cooks the meats I buy. He makes a pot of beans every week. I usually make the veggies and salad.

3. When you go out to eat what foods do you find yourself ordering most? I like to order a salad with my meal. I have tried to cut back on carbs. I like seafood. Though I like Italian, I don't eat it often because it is so high in carbs. If given my choice, I prefer seafood places.

4. Can you recommend a restaurant in your area?  Why do you like it? Our anniversary is August 10 and we are going to Newport Beach to eat at the Crab Cooker. It is across from the beach/pier. We have been going there since we started dating back in 1973. Newport Beach is about 35 miles away.  A new place just opened near us that we plan to try next week.

This week we stole from Follow That Dream. Bonnie, who posted it, admits she stole it from Stella. Now here it is, just waiting for you to steal it for your blog ...

Sunday Stealing & Tuesday 4

1) What's the longest you've gone without sleep? About 32 hours.

2) What was the highlight of your last week? Meeting our new grand puppy!

3) You have to give a 10-minute speech to a group of high school students. What's your topic?
Be true to yourself.

4) What is the single best decision you've ever made in your life? Recommit my life back to the Lord.

5) If you could ask a coworker, friend or family member a question and be guaranteed an honest answer, who would you choose and what would you ask? My sister Terry. She is my best friend and she is also a marriage and family counselor. I talked to her about my ADD and she told me I was ADHD.
I might not be as physically all over like I once was, but she says I have many markers that show I am still ADHD. Once she explained it, I realized that I was and subconsciously knew it.

6) Do you cook for yourself when you're home alone? I do find myself something to eat. If there are no left overs, I can make a sandwich or find something. I can also make a quick stir fry with chicken and veggies.

7) Do you most often access the internet from your computer, your phone, or your smart watch? My laptop.

8) Do you have more email addresses or phone numbers? Phone numbers.

9) What's the biggest source of anger in your life right now?
I would not say anger, but I would say frustration and sadness to see what is happening to our declining democratic nation. But then I look at the big picture and what the Bible says as we near end times. I remember what I  have learned and know God is in control. The Bible says you can't serve God and money. Satan is having a field day dividing people and our nation. It is a huge spiritual battle more than anything. So, I guess I am angry at Satan!

10) Mondays make me feel thankful that I am retired!

Teen-Age Romances was a comic that ran from 1949 to 1955. It cost 10¢ a copy.
Used magazines now can be bought by collectors from hundreds of dollars to almost $2000. for a copy.

1. Did you have a teen-age romance?  If not, did you dream of one? Yes I did. My first real boyfriend was Oscar and met at church youth group. We were together for a year. He had the straightest while teeth. I saw him a few times while in high school and he said I was really cute. I had changed from when we were together before. I had lost weight, had long hair and wore a little makeup. I saw him a few years later at a gas station. He asked how I was doing, and I said I had just had a baby, and he said, "no way, you look great!" I showed him my son and he said he was happy for me. Then I left. When I was married about 10 years, my parents had a party and he was the DJ. He had already met my husband. He asked me if I had ever thought it would have been like if we had stayed together. I had just had my second son, and I told him no. I had thought about it until I got married. I haven't seen him since though I have run into his sister. The last time I saw her, she said I looked great, and she took a picture of me. The last I heard, he was a retired fire captain.

2. What made it romantic? Or if it wasn't why not? First love? I would say hormones!

3.  What were dates like when you were younger? What did people do.. where did they go?
I didn't officially start dating until I was 16 and I dated Kevin Dodd. I really liked him and I have written about him before. We dated for several months in my junior year of high school. We were friends first and he would come over to help me with my chemistry.  Then we started going out, to high school games, out to eat and the movies. But after the spring formal, we drifted apart.

A year later I met my husband when I was 17 and a senior. We had so many fun dates along and with my sister and her boyfriend. We met the boys at church youth group, and we did fun things in our group too. On one date we went to Japanese Deer Park. It was so pretty. We to Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. We went to the Strawberry Festival and the beach. this was in 1973, and we married in 1974!

A couple of years later. my husband met Kevin and his girlfriend when my cousin got married and he played guitar and sang at her wedding. Years later my cousin and I met up with him and his wife while he was in town to pack away his belonging from his mother's home after she passed. A couple of weeks later I received a package of all the notes I left in his locker when we dated. His wife suggested he send them back to me for sweet memories. I told my husband, and he said that was nice of them. He didn't ask to see them, and I am not sure what I did with them. That was back in the 90's. I did write back to thank Kevin and asked why we broke up. He said he was a new Christian, and I was a temptation to him. I was so happy to hear that he left me for Jesus!

I have these little date books that I kept from 1971-1989. I wish I would have kept up with them because. But I do have my blog from 2002 until now that has memories. I have lots of pictures from the 80's and 90's that I can look at to remember. Now my grandson has a girlfriend!

4, What kind of things, places etc. do you find romantic? I still love going to the beach. We just went on a cruise in January for our 50th and it was so much fun! There are pictures on the links above.

Well, we are on the doorstep of August. How do you like that?   A lot of Tom Sawyers adventures take place in the summer like whitewashing Aunt Polly's fence. Hannibal, Missouri has fence painting contests in July and July 4th is National Tom Sawyer day there. They have a parade, carnival, fireworks, and a general good time is had by all it seems.

So here is another set of questions for Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4.        I hope you enjoy them.

1. What special things happen around you in summer? If nothing, have you ever considered organizing something? Our city does several things, but we don't participate. They have Thursday night farmers market with music and food trucks. They have cover band concert too at the open mall. We don't want to be out in the heat and get bitten by mosquitos. Our younger grands have been here a lot this summer. Our older grands have been gone for a few weeks since they have been off school. Their camps start to this week, so they will be back. They all are here on Monday night.

2. Tom hated painting. But on the subject of painting, what color is your house? Your living room? Your bedroom?  Thinking of changing anything? The day after we moved into this house, I painted the master bedroom grey. The whole house was painted this weird deep yellow gold color. I hated it! painted most of the others rooms a shade of antique white. The outside needs painting and we decided to take a cruise first to celebrate our 50th.

3. Were your childhood summers carefree and did you have any adventures or chores like Tom did?
Yes, my summers as a child were fun. No school, sleeping in, riding my bike to the park, water balloon fights and getting wet in the sprinklers or slip and slide. When we got older, it was going to the beach.

4. Did you ever help paint a house or a fence or anything at all?  How did that go? I hate painting, but so does my husband. I wanted it done and he didn't care, so I did it. Any painting I am doing now is a part of my crafting. I am getting ready to paint a page in my bible with acrylic.

Saturday 9 and Sunday Stealing

Saturday 9: Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer (1963)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Nat King Cole sings about enjoying "soda and pretzels and beer." Which of those three would we find in your kitchen right now?
I think the grands have pretzels in their drawer. We don't buy sodas or beer. We have some Snapple diet peach tea that I add to water sometimes.

2) The lyrics mention a romantic movie. Which movie couple do you believe had onscreen chemistry?
Only thing that came to my mind was Gone with the Wind. Rhett Butler and Scarlet O'hara. Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh)I know there are many more, but my mind is tired after a busy couple of days with the grands.

3) He wishes "summer could always be here." How has your summer been so far? It has been nice so far. I am taking the grands swimming at my sisters today as I write this on Friday and we come back Saturday. My sister lives about 45 minutes away.

4) According to the song, a great warm weather meal includes sandwiches and wieners. Tell us about your perfect sandwich or, if you prefer, what you believe is the ideal way to dress a hot dog.
The last sandwich I had had was made of turkey, avocado, Havarti cheese, lettuce and tomato with mayonnaise. I like my hot dog grilled and the bun slightly warmed. Mustard and ketchup. Sometimes with dill pickles.

5) Nat was a big baseball fan. Growing up in Chicago he played sandlot games and listened to Cubs games on the radio. As an adult he was a season ticket holder at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Do you enjoy playing/watching baseball or softball? I have gone to a few Angel games. I watch the World series.

6) The lyrics of this week's song were written by Charlie Tobias, who wanted to create a sense of nostalgia for summers gone by. Share one of your special summer memories. In 1971 when I was 15, I went to Mexico City with my friend and her family. Her sister was getting married. The station wagon was loaded with people and the top stacked with luggage. We left early in the morning to get through the hot desert. I got to see so many places like Mazatlan, Guadalajara, and Acapulco. We stayed with family in Mexico City. The family was very nice and I learned some new customs. My Spanish was limited, but they were all so helpful. The boys were cute. One boy's name was Cuahtemoc Anderson and had the prettiest green eyes. I enjoyed sitting at the dinner table eating white rice and black beans with a particular roll. We ate red (Mexican rice and pinto beans at home with tortillas) After the wedding, they took me to Acapulco to see the Clift divers. I ate a lot of good food and fresh seafood. We stopped at a huge open air market in Guadalajara that was huge. The family was careful with what I ate and drank. I never got sick. We went a place and spent the night at a where the Olympic divers had stayed. Each hotel room had its own mini pool/hot tub. Mexico had hosted the Olympics back in 1968. I remember taking a book to read on the long stretches of driving. 1834 miles from Los Angles to Mexico City.
When I got home, my mom had decorated my room and bought me Carole King's Tapestry. I also had a nice birthday party with my friends for my 16th birthday. It was a very exciting and fun summer! Alejandro is the boy standing behind me in the white shirt.

7) In 1963, one of the best-selling books was Happiness Is a Warm Puppy by Charles Schultz. The cover showed Lucy giving Snoopy a big hug. Name another character from the Peanuts comic strip.
Lucy, Charlie Brown, Linus and Peppermint Patty.

8) Also in 1963, men were wearing thin, solid-color ties. Later in the decade, ties would become wider, patterned and more colorful. Where do you turn to keep up with fashion trends? I tend to get what I need. I found some pants I liked at TJ Max. I got two shirts at Kohls in the Jr. section. I am more into comfort and how it fits than style. I ordered some bathing suits too.

9) Random question: Would you rather be a cowboy or a pirate? Cowboy.

Sunday Stealing

It's Sunday afternoon and I am watching the stars arrive for the Grammy's.  A big storm is coming in and but the show most go on! It is keeping me distracted from my buzzing, swishing ear. It is not getting better and so I will have to try to get an appointment on Monday. I am 5 minutes away from our local clinic, but they have been so busy with all the viruses going around. The hospital/clinic is about 25 minutes away, but I don't want to drive in the rain. But if ENT could take me in, I would brave it.
