Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

Thankful that I stayed healthy through the holidays.
Thankful that we had a week to get ready for our Princess cruise. We leave Saturday the 4th.
Thankful that I got money for Christmas, and I finally got my hair cut and colored.
Thankful that I was able to get my nails done today and the lady was careful with my thumb.
Thankful that I am all packed. When I am through here, I will back up my computer to take on the cruise. We have mini suite that gives up plenty of desk space and we have a wi-fi packaged

 Saturday 9: Something New (2017)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

Welcome to the first Saturday 9 of 2025.

1) We're beginning the year with a song about new beginnings. What is something new you'd like to try in 2025?  A Zumba class for senior women.

2) The lyrics recall what was said "in the mist of the midnight hour." Where were you when the new year dawned? Watching tv and taking down so Christmas things. I did not get a lot done. I have been busy getting ready for the cruise.

3) The Axwell of Axwell and Ingrosso is Axel Hedfors. He began as a drummer and moved on to experimenting musically on the computer, eventually mastering music sequencer software. Do you consider yourself more a technophile like Axwell, who loves technology and digital devices, or more a technophobe, anxious about learning new programs? Somewhere in between.

4) His musical partner is Sebastian Ingrosso. Sebastian became interested in dance music when he accompanied his father, a choreographer, to the studio. When you were young, did you ever go to work with either of your parents? Yes, I did. When I was 14, I got to work at Toy City for a summer and Christmas season. My mom was the head manager of 9 stores. She would drop me off before visiting the other stores. Harriet, the store manager kept me busy, but I loved it! I visited my dad at his work a few times. I liked the view he had since he was in a tall building.

5) Axwell & Ingrosso gave their premiere performance at the 2014 Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City and their last concert at the 2017 Ultra Music Fest in Miami. Looking back on 2024, did you attend any outdoor music or theater performances? Not this year.

6) In 2017, when "Something New" was released, we lost the TV star who could "turn the world on with her smile." Without looking it up, do you know who that is? Mary Tyler Moore.

7) Also in 2017, Today Show anchor Hoda Kotb announced she had adopted her first child. Do you know anyone who is adding to their family in 2025? Not anyone in my family.

8) Have you made any New Year's resolutions for 2025? Read the Bible again using the
Bible Recap program. To continue to my physical therapy and eat better.

9) What was the first thing to make you laugh in 2025? Minnie playing with her new toys.

We don't get snow where I live. It will be cold Saturday, high 63, low 41. That is for So. CA
So I like to decorate with winter here.

Happy New Year!

1.What memories of New Years Eve do you have?
I usually always watch the Dick Clark New Year Eve show. Now I channel hop.

2. Do you go to bed early or stay up until midnight to ring in the new year?
I stay up until around 1 am. My husband goes to bed around 9:30

3. Do you have special foods or customs for the New Year? Not really. Last year we went to my son's house for a NY party. We are staying home because we are getting ready for our cruise.

4. Will football and New Year parades be on your agenda for New Years Day? We do like to watch the Parade. Not into sports. I start taking down the ornaments from the trees. I am also packing for our cruise. I have washed all the Christmas blankets and towels, and they are packed.

1. Oxford's Word of the year for 2024 is 'brain rot'. Are you familiar with this term? Do you suffer from the condition? Ha! This is a term used to 'capture concerns about the impact of consuming excessive amounts of low-quality online content, especially on social media'. Yes at times I can be drawn in by social media. Brain rot is real, my mom died from Alzheimer's and her brain scans showed diminish brain material.

If you were choosing a word to capture 2024 (for the nation/world, not your own life personally) what word would you choose? Truth.

2. It's National Polar Bear Plunge Day (January 1)...will you be participating in one of these events (or even your own)? How will you spend the first day of this brand new year? Do you have a traditional New Year's Day menu? We watch the parade and I start taking down the ornaments on the trees. I have lots of trees and will probably start with the Nativity/angel tree. We eat whatever there is to eat. I have some turkey bones and meat that I can use to make soup.

3. What's something that brings you joy and how will you do more of it in this new year?
I really enjoy Bible journaling and crafting. I am looking forward to doing more things with my family, and church friends.

4. Do you struggle with the January blues? Not really. I keep pretty busy. What's one thing you can/will do to keep them at bay? I will be reading through the Bible again using the Bible Recap Program.

5. Will you choose your own personal word of the year for 2025? What about a goal, resolution, or maybe even a bucket list? Elaborate as much or as little as you like. I do choose a word, and sometimes two. I have Seek and Hope.

6. Insert your own random thought here. We leave on our cruise this Saturday. I started packing today. I am putting things on the guest bed for now. I need to try on a few dresses and see how they fit. I have gained a couple of pounds during the holidays and I feel like my waist has expanded again. I wish I could push the fat to the rear! We chose January 4-11 for our cruise because the grandkids are off school and can watch our dog, Minnie. The prices were good to since we are going off season. I have been checking the weather and it will be in the 70's in the Mexico cities of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. The last time we took a cruise was in 2006 to Alaska. I took a New England cruise in 2008 with my parents. So are excited. I am taking my laptop since we have wifi with our packaged.

This past Monday I met up with my friend Anita. We met in high school over 50 years ago. We met up at the cemetery. We were visiting our parents and my grandparents. Corrie Ten Boon is really close to my parents so my friend and I walked to her plot. She was a Dutch woman that helped hide Jewish people. She was sent to a concentration camp. Her story was made into a book called the Hiding Place. She eventually made it here to the United States.

Happy New Year!

Yesterday we had lots of much needed rain. I spent the night putting away Christmas. I have shared my multiple trees and decor and you know I have a lot. It takes a few days to put it away. I have also been labeling each box. I am trying to be more organized. I also have a box for give away.

Our church had its services on Saturday instead of today. Good thing because I slept in until 11:0am!
Service was led by the youth pastors and youth. The sermon was on Job. Job had it all and was favored by God. Job lost it all, everything. His family, wealth and health. In spite of all, in spite of how he felt, de did not blame God. He praised God in spite of it all. He chose to focus on God and not his problems.

Not an easy thing to do. Our emotions get the best of us. The word focus struck a light in my mind. I need to focus on God. I need to focus on the gifts he has given me, my family, health and friends.
Distraction gets in the way, so I need to focus on what is important and let go the rest. Not an easy thing to do, but something I need to do.

There are a few verses that come to my mind.

Psalm 119:15
I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.

Proverbs 4:25
Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.
Matthew 6:33
Psalm 46:10

Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Colossians 3:2
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Proverbs 16:3 Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

As busy as I have been today, I knew I needed to spend time thinking of all this. A quiet time to meditate on what God has put on my heart.

I pray your New Year will be a good one my friends!
