Saturday 9: On the Radio (1979)

1) The action begins when a letter falls out of the pocket of a brown overcoat. What color is your coat? Black

2) The lyrics ask if it "kinda strikes you sad when you hear our song." We don't want to be sad this Saturday, so we're asking what song makes you happy. So many songs make me happy! But since we are talking about Donna Summer, I will say Last Dance.

3) Right before this song hit the charts, Donna Summer hit the cover of Newsweek. Are there any magazines in your home now? If yes, who is on the cover? Anne Frank on Time Magazine. We saw her exhibit last month and the Museum of Tolerance.

4) Donna wrote the lyrics to this song, while producer Giorgio Moroder wrote the tune. Moroder is known as "the father of disco." Is disco a genre you enjoy? Yes my husband and I went to the disco's. It was so much fun! This was before kids and I was the healthiest then. dancing is good exercise!

5) This song got additional airplay throughout the 1980s because the game show The Price Is Right played it every time a contestant won a stereo. Today, the most popular audio equipment sold at Best Buy is a sound bar to improve the quality of TV audio. Have you added a sound bar or sound system to your TV? Yes we have a soundbar that is under our big screen tv

6) Moroder has won two Academy Awards for Best Song. The first was for "Flashdance ... What a Feeling" from Flashdance and the second was for "Take My Breath Away" from Top Gun. Do you have a favorite movie soundtrack? I have so many. I did buy that Flashdance 8 track? Saturday Night Fever too! I love musicals! Fiddler on The Roof, The Sound of Music, Star Wars, Coco, just to name a few.

Do out-of-towners find their way to your hometown more often in summer or winter? I live in a quiet city between Orange County and Riverside. I live about 30 minutes from Disneyland and it is busy year round!

8) Kourtney Kardashian was born in 1979, the year this record was a hit. Keeping Up with the Kardashians has been on since 2007. Have you ever seen it?A few times when my daughter was watching it.

So thankful for memories.....

So thankful for memories.... How many of us remember the day man walked on the moon? I do. I was at youth group and someone brought in a small television and we all huddled around it to watch this amazing event. Every time I look at a full moon, I think about that day. Earlier in the month I went outside to take a picture of the "Snowmoon" I read about it on Facebook. I used my Cannon zoom and I had to set myself up to be in a place I could keep my camera steady. Here is my picture.

So thankful I can read the Bible! I have just started an in depth study of the Bible called Journey through the Bible. I have read the Bible 3 times. But this time I will be really digging into the Word. I feel like I am back in college taking Art History. Lots of reading, studying, word mapping, Greek and Hebrew meanings and more. Before starting, we were asked to read Psalm 119 and ask God to open our eyes to this study.
As some of you know, I like Bible journaling and 4 years ago I started doing this with my cousin. There are so many things I could say about this but I will leave it at this. God colors my world. "In the beginning, God created"............everything!

After looking at the moon, I had to find this picture. It was released in May of 1968 to honor Apollo 8 for orbiting the moon. How amazing to think that a few months later man would walk on the moon!
So thankful to be able to fly! Not only does God create, He allow man to create. God allows man to take a gigantic heavy piece of metal with people, luggage and fuel, defy gravity and fly for hours for our benefit and pleasure. I was so afraid to fly for so long until I gave that fear to God. Man might get to go back to the moon someday. But I think it is more important to get to Heaven. Meanwhile I will be looking at that bright moon in the sky and praising the Eternal One who made it!

So thankful that I can share this with my grandkids!

Valentine's Day at the Mission Inn

We celebrated Valentine's Day by having lunch at Las Campanas Restaurant at the Mission Inn. It is located in the historic downtown Riverside California. There are a couple of links at the bottom of the page. We also went to the large antique store before and after lunch.
Where there is no vision the people perish is the inscription underneath the opening under the clock. That is found in the Bible in Proverbs 29:18.

The Historic Mission Inn

The historic Fox Theater is a couple of blocks away. The pre showing of Gone with the Wind was shown here in September 9,1939 prior to the premiere release in Atlanta Georgia, December 1939. I also got to hear Chris Tomln and Lauren Daigle perform their Christmas program there about 5 years ago.

It begins with me.

I just came back from my Lifegroup fellowship. I have been blessed to get to know these women in a more intimate way. I love that we can share freely and pray for each other. We go over the questions that are on the back of our bulletin. Pastor has been teaching on marriage. This weeks passage has been based on Proverbs 18:21 "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." Here is another version. "The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences."
It is so important to think positive and say positive things. The pastor said that when he was a child, the teacher called him big ears and the kids all laughed at him. She didn't think before speaking. He never forgot it. How many times have we done that, said something that wish we hadn't. Or what has stayed with us that hurt us? We can't change the past, but we can be more positive each day.

With all the division in the world today, we have to choose if we will be kind or stir up anger. We can't do anything about what others say and do. We can only choose to make the most of our life while we can. What will people remember? That we were kind or we stirred up anger? Each day we wake up with this choice. I am thankful for all the chances to Lord gives me. I am far from perfect and I mess up. Each day I know I have a chance to do good. It begins with me.

1. Do you have some favorite books to share?(if you don't read, how about favorite TV programs or movies?)
I have lots of books. I have several Bibles. I have read through the Bible 3 times and will be starting the 4th time with an online group. My journaling Bible is probably my favorite. I have read Gone With the Wind 7 times while I was in Jr High and High School. I have read several of James Mitchener's books. Hawaii is my favorite. My grand father and I both read the Wagon's West and White Indian series. I have read many the Left Behind Series and Ad Chronicles. I have read the life stories of Lucille Ball, Charles Schultz, Mandisa, Amy Grant and lots of Christian books. I don't buy many books anymore. I have donated lots of books to our church and public library. I don't have the room for them.

2. When looking for a book(or program) what things do you look for? I like to watch medical shows like Good Doctor, The Resident, Chicago Med and Grey's Anantomy.I like to find things that might interest my husband too. We like Survivor, Hawaii Five 0, Blue Bloods, Dances with the Stars and the Disney Channel.

3. Does the cover of a book make a difference or help you choose?(or do trailers help you decide on a TV or movie program?)Yes trailers do help. I do like to go to bookstores and I will go to the Christian side first and then history next. I have a few really old books.

4. What is your favorite genre of book, TV or movie? That is, is it science fiction, romance, mystery, true story, biography? I love historical fiction but I don't have much time for free reading. I am either reading my Bible or books that I need to Women's studies I take on church or online. I bought each of my grand children a Bible so they could do Bible journaling with me. I do enjoy watching older movies on TNT.

Thought Provoking Questions

1. Is it more important to love or be loved?
Both are important but showing love means more now.

2. If you had the chance to go back in time and change one thing would you do it?
Ask my mom and dad lots of questions about themselves.

3. If a doctor gave you five years to live, what would you try to accomplish?
Go to Disney World with my family. Do as many thing with my family to make memories.

4. What is the difference between innocence and ignorance?
Innocence is not knowing at all but the child/person is willing to learn. Ignorance is is not knowing and not wanting to learn or refusing to accept instruction by choice or circumstance. I think there is a lot of grace given to the person who wants to learn what they do not know. I think there is more negativity associated with the person who is stubborn and refuses instruction and correction.

5. What is the simplest truth you can express in words? God is love.

6. What gives your life meaning? At my age, spending time with my family and sharing about Jesus. spending time learning from my Bible. Also spending time with my friends. Like today, my lifegroup friends went to breakfast and then we went to a Women's shelter and threw the kids a Valentine's party. I made my own cards to pass out to the kids and stamped "God loves you!" We passed out gift bags and cards. Some of the ladies baked goods too. We hope to go back again. Here is a picture of us waiting for the kids to come in.

7. Can there be happiness without sadness? Pleasure without pain? Peace without war? They are all a part of life. Good verses bad. I think we will only have joy, pleasure and peace in heaven.

8. What’s the one thing you’d like others to remember about you at the end of your life? I loved God and my family and I was a loyal friend and a creative person.

9. Is there such a thing as perfect? No, only God is perfect.

10. What do you love most about yourself? I try to see the good in people. I am creative.

11. Is it more important to do what you love or to love what you are doing? I am retired so I do what I love for the most part.

12. What do you imagine yourself doing ten years from now? Hopefully watching my grankids graduate from college and high school. I hope I am still in good health.
My mom died at age 75 because of Alzheimers and in 10 years I will almost be 75.

13. What small act of kindness were you once shown that you will never forget? A woman gave me some great words of encouragement on a plane ride home that pertained to my daughter. After we got off the plane I was following her and in a second I lost sight of her. I think she was an angel when I really needed one.

14. To what degree have you controlled the course your life has taken? I think a lot of it and not always for my best. There are a few things I wish I could do differently. A few things were out of my control and then I had to decide what I wanted to do with the course change. Praying to God now really helps too!

15. If you looked into the heart of your enemy, what do you think you would find that is different from what is in your own heart? I can't say I have any enemies. There is one person that really broke my heart. My heart became more compassionate to others. I think hers became more selective. I really don't know. I have given it to God and made many new friends!

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5

Last night several of my family members went to a basketball game for Cal Baptist University. My daughter was suppose to go with her kids but Eddie had baseball practice. He would have liked it. I had a good time with my family. My brother and sister were there. My other sister didn't go because she broke her leg. We love when we get together. Here is a picture of my family minus 19. My parents had 4 kids and 13 grandkids. Now there are 14 great grandkids. The best thing is we all love the Lord!

On Saturday my life group is throwing a Valentine's party for children at a Women's shelter. We have all made the kids cards to pass out. We have crafts planned along with cupcakes and cookies to snack on.

My Aunt Rosie who is battling stage 3 metastatic breast cancer fell and broker her femur. Please say a prayer for her.

1. Are you an impulse buyer or do you weigh the value/cost/ necessity before you buy? I am both. I probably buy more crafts than I need. I always buy things on sale.
I have bought things and then returned it. I pay my bills at the beginning of the month.

2. What do you really resent having to pay for? I live in California and there are a lot of taxes and gas is high here. I don't like having to pay taxes on my retirement income because I already paid taxes on them!

3.Do you have favorite brands of household cleaners, detergents, soaps? Can you tell us why you like them? Maybe you will give us better ideas.
I like to use more natural products. I like Young Living Essential oils and make products with them. I will use vinegar and baking soda for cleaning too.

4. What is a typical day of housekeeping for you? My husband and I are retired. We both clean up around the house. I will sweep and dust. I hate dusting because it bothers my sinuses. I mix the cleaning solution and hubby usually mops. I clean the refrigerator and he cleans the stove. We both do laundry and shop for groceries. I do not like changing sheets because it hurts my shoulders but I still do it. I like the smell and feel of clean sheets. We both cook. I am blessed to have a husband that helps. Our sons were raised that way too. My daughter says she will do the same with her son.

Waiting All Day for Sunday Night

1) This week's Saturday 9 has a football theme because there's a big game Sunday. Will you be watching?
Yes with my family at my older son's house.

2) The Super Bowl is a big day for food consumption in the US, second only to Thanksgiving. What's on your menu this weekend?
Chicken, pizza, salad, chips, home made strawberry lemon slush.

3) The NFL has decreed that the Super Bowl will never be played in a city that has a median February temperature of less than 50º. Would your hometown qualify for the Big Game?
No because there is not a stadium big enough here. Weather wise we would be okay because I am in Southern California.

4) This version of the NFL theme song mentions the Steelers and the Broncos. During the regular season, which team do you root for? How did they do in 2019?
I am not a big football fan. I am from California so I will go for the San Francisco 49's.

5) This version of the Sunday Night Football song is by Faith Hill. She also has ties to the MLB, since her husband is Tim McGraw, son of the Mets' pitcher Tug McGraw. Which sport do you prefer -- baseball or football?
Baseball, it is easier to understand. I think football is too rough a sport.

6) Faith has performed live at more than one The Super Bowl in the past, performing both "America, the Beautiful" and "The Star Spangled Banner." What's your favorite patriotic song?
It like them both. I learned them in grade school. My dad has a patriotic LP he would play and we would match around the room.

7) She has a perfume line with Coty that was a big seller at CVS during Christmas 2018. What's the last item you bought at a drugstore?
Mascara.

8) Faith Hill is the producer of a talk show on CMT called Pickler and Ben. Is the TV on as you answer these questions? If so, what are you watching?
No, I only watched an hour today.

9) Random question: You've got a chip in your hand and three dips to choose from -- guacamole, salsa, and onion. Where does your chip get dipped?
If we have tortilla chips, we have salsa and maybe guacamole. If it is potato chips, we have either onion or ranch dip.
