Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

1. After a busy week last week helping with Vacation Bible School, it was nice to rest on Saturday and Monday. I greeted on Sunday and Audrina sang. Afterwards we went to In and Out Burger for lunch before heading home to rest. Hubby dozed on the couch with the tv on while I went to my desk to Bible journal.

2. Thankful to be going to Tuesday night Bible study. Pastor is in the book of Revelation, and we have a lot of turn the pages to prophetic verses and world history related to the verses in Revelation. I feel like I am back at Jr high and high school Sunday school and how excited it felt to get to the verse first. The Bible I am using is one I have used for many other Book studies over the past 30 years. It is a Kay Arthur Study Bible with wide margins for lots of notes.

3. I saw my family doctor on Wednesday and thankful she listens to my concerns and orders all the test I need. I go next week for an ultrasound of my liver/pancreas/gall bladder. I got my blood test done after my appointment and had some of the results by Wednesday night and some on Thursday morning. My cholesterol was too high, and I knew the doctor would message me. She did and put me on a new medicine to take. I need to find nonmeat protein options because I know I am eating too much red meat. My AIC went down a bit. Thankful for good insurance!

4. Thankful for the meals I had on Thursday. Thankful for dental insurance, but I did not like the long wait and have to go back on Tuesday for the exam. They were only able to do my extras today because they were short some help and I could not stay late. I may not make it to Bible study Tuesday evening if I am to sore like I was the last time I had a deep cleaning. I made it home in time to make dinner and then watch my craft class on YouTube.

5. Thankful that the weather is still nice so I was able to work out in the patio. I washed down an area after sweeping. I want to be able to sit at the table and journal. I dropped Eddie off at the hospital for his shift. Eddie wants to be a surgeon, and this is a good way to see what hospital life looks like. I hope he learns something new. After I dropped him off, I went to pick up my prescription at the pharmacy and then I stopped to get few things at Sprouts.

Saturday 9: Consider Me Gone (2009)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, poor Reba McEntire confronts a lover who makes her feel like she's not good enough. Let's go in a more positive direction: Who in your life makes you feel happy and secure? My Bible journaling. Listening to worship/praise music.

2) Reba hopes her lover will look back on her as someone who used to make him laugh. Who did you most recently laugh with? My husband.

3) She was director James Cameron's first choice to play Molly Brown in the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, but she had to turn down the role because she was committed to a concert tour. Think of the last invitation you received. Did you say yes or no? I was invited to a friend's house but had to say no because I had something else planned.

4) Reba comes from a rodeo family: both her father and grandfather were champion steer ropers and her mother was a barrel racer. Have you ever been to a rodeo? A mini rodeo at the Orange County Fair.

5) She loves game nights with family and friends because she says she's "a competitive person." When you play friendly board or card games, do you always play to win? Depends on who I am playing with. I go easy with my younger grandson.

6) Reba wears tall boots all the time, even in summer, and has more than 100 pairs. Do you often wear boots? No, but I did see a few women wearing them last week at our western theme Vacation Bible School/Kids Con.

7) In 2009, when this song was popular, Mark Zuckerberg tried unsuccessfully to buy Twitter. Elon Musk acquired it in 2022 and renamed it X. Do you often post to Twitter/X? Not at all. I deactivated my account a couple of years ago.

8) Back in 2009, DuPont announced that silver and black were the most popular vehicle colors, accounting for half the cars the world over. What color is your ride? White.

9) Random question: Have you ever had a job that required you to wear a hairnet? No.

Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

1.Thankful to be able to watch church from home so hubby could go to church. I stayed with Minnie as she is recovering from her surgery. She likes to jump on the furniture.
Thankful for the nice Father's Day celebration at my son's house. We took Minnie but watched her closely. Daisy was not happy that Minnie could not play. Thankfully, we took Minnie's crate.

2.Thankful for a quiet Monday to work on my Acts study. I am enjoying digging deeper into the book of Acts and combining graphics and verses. This study runs through July. There are notes behind the word study page. I used a number of older graphics and stamps on this page.

3. Thankful to be able to help out with Vacation Bible School/Kids Con. It began on Tuesday and runs through Friday. I am a leader for my grandson's group, 4-6th grade. There is the main leader, 7 adult leaders and 4-5 youth helpers. There is praise and worship in the beginning and my granddaughter is helping with that. She also comes to help in our group.
4. Thankful that I have already started preparing for my next Bible journaling meet up that doesn't begin until August 5. I am praying for guidance on the October verses.

5. Thankful to drop my grandson off his first volunteer day at the hospital. They have assigned him to the OR room. Not sure what he will do. They gave him a shirt and he has to wear white pants and shoes. He will work until the first week of August. They have a few weeks off when school starts and then they can go back and volunteer during the year. He will get a letter of recommendation for colleges.

Saturday 9: I Fall in Love Too Easily (1945)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Dinah Shore admits that her impetuous romances don't work out. Do you consider yourself impulsive? I can be at times, especially with ADHD.

2) The songwriting team of Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne composed this in a single evening. Since the song is rather short Sammy considered adding another verse, but Jule thought better of it, saying, "No. That's it." Are you more like Sammy and keep revising, tinkering and tweaking? Or, like Jule, do you find it easy to leave well enough alone? Depends on what it is. I am when I work on my Bible journaling lessons.

3) The song was introduced in Anchors Aweigh, a movie about two sailors who find love during a two-day leave in New York. Have you ever enjoyed a romance while on holiday? When I was a teen.

4) Though Frank Sinatra sang the song in the movie, Dinah's version was also popular. Her record sales in the 1940s were boosted by concerts, radio appearances and performances for the troops. What singer who is no longer with us do you wish you could have seen in concert? The younger me wanted to see Marvyn Gaye.

5) Dinah was shy with new people but discovered as a high school cheerleader that she was good in front of a crowd. Give us one of your high school cheers. First in 10, do it again, we like it, we like it!

6) She loved golf and was so good at it, she became the first woman admitted as a member to the prestigious Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles. What's your best sport? When I was in high school,  played competitive sports. I was on the senior team in Basketball, Baseball and field hockey. I enjoyed field hockey the best. I enjoy watching baseball, especially since the Angels and Dodgers are in my state. I got hurt at the post office in my early 20's and I have not really been very active in sports since. I am doing strength training now and feeling better.

7) Dinah found her greatest success in television. She was so popular for so long that she was able to afford a luxury home, built to her specifications, in Palm Springs. Leonardo DiCaprio now owns it. Do you know who lived in your home before you moved in? A young couple with a baby.

8) In 1945, when this song was popular, Abbott and Costello appeared in the movie The Naughty Nineties, which featured their famous "Who's On First" routine. Do you know it? I have seen it.

9) Random question – Fill in the blank: After all these years, I still miss parents. Mom has been gone 15 years and dad 12.

Thanks to Susanne and Sam for the memes and the links are on the left.
Longest day of the year and first day of summer!

Friday Fave 5 & Saturday 9

Happy Friday! Seems like I have turned into a once-a-week blogger. I am spending more time studying my Bible and reading. I am thankful for each day God gives me and focusing on my blessings. I have also been out in the garden and a new plumeria flower has bloomed! Here are few things from the week. I am linking with Susanne from Living to Tell the Story.

1. I am thankful to be able to be greeting again at church.  My husband and I greeted for years(1995-2005)I also signed up to be a leader for Vacation Bible school/Kids Con/Convention that starts the 17th.

2. Thankful for a great time at our last life group before our summer break. The leader spoke on the gift of speaking in tongues, a private language that is to God. Then Pastor Jim came in and spoke about it and prayed to receive this gift by the power of the Holy Spirit. Then we prayed over our pastor.

3. Thankful that Minnie's surgery went well. Poor baby lost 9 teeth and had to have her lipoma on her chest removed. This happened while I was at group, and I asked my friends to pray for her. Minnie is only 8 and is in good health. The vet said dogs are like people. Some have good teeth and some have bad teeth. Now I have to set up my dental appointment and I am sure it will be expensive, even with insurance. I am thankful that I do have insurance. Thankful Minnie is doing well. Speaking of insurance, I am thankful that all the physical therapy has paid off. I am feeling better and I can feel the muscle growth and strength from all the strength training exercises. I will have to do this the rest of my life along with proper nutrition.

4. Thankful for the Bible study I am doing with Illustrated Faith on the book of Acts. One of the women from IF is also a Bible teacher and taught this at her church. Illustrated Faith combines art/illustration/digital graphics with scripture. Some people focus on the key verse and use their graphics. I tend to go a little deeper reading more and using Bible Hub for more insight.

“Take time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit. Bodily fitness has a certain value, but spiritual fitness is essential, both for this present life and for the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:8).

5. Finally, thankful to be able to meet with my son and his wife to celebrate Father's Day early!

Saturday 9: I Will See You in C-U-B-A (2010)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here. This song was chosen in honor of Father's Day.

1) In this week's song, Lucie Arnaz encourages us to hop a ship and join her in Cuba. Is your passport up to date? Yes

2) She sings that Cuba is a great place to enjoy wine and Panatelas. Do you like the smell of a good cigar?

No

3) Lucie said her Latin Roots CD represents "the rhythms of my soul" and is a tribute to her father, Desi Arnaz. Cuban-born Desi starred on Broadway and in nightclubs but was best known for co-starring in and producing the 1950s sitcom, I Love Lucy. When you think of I Love Lucy, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Laughter

4) While Lucie's parents – Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball – are famous for their TV work, Tony-nominated Lucie has found her greatest success on the stage. She inherited their love of performing, saying, “My parents were always happiest when they were working.” What have you inherited from one or both your parents? (It could be anything from your work ethic to your eye color.)
They were both avid book readers. They believed in true democracy. They were kind to everyone.
I got my brown eyes from my dad and the ability to talk to anyone. My mom had green eyes and I got my love of music and art for her. I got some of my perfectionism from her.

5) Though "Ricky Riccardo" often mangled English on I Love Lucy, Desi's English was very good. Lucille Ball admired his facility with languages and encouraged him to speak Spanish to their children so that they would be bilingual. When you were growing up, did your family speak any language other than English?  My parents both new Spanish but they only spoke it when they did not
want us to understand them. But I did learn to understand it by listening to my grandparents on my dad's side, church and school where they taught conversational Spanish. I always messed up the tenses of speech. My mom's dad only allowed the kids to speak English. He was happy to become a citizen and embrace the American dream. I do wish we were taught to speak Spanish and be fluent.

6) Desi Arnaz often performed "I Will See You in C-U-B-A." Is there a song that reminds you of your father? Anything Frank Sinatra, Patriotic and I Can Only Imagine. Also, a song called When the Hurt and the Healer collide. That song was popular in 2012/13 when my dad was dying and sung by Mercy Me who also wrote I Can Only Imagine.

7) After Lucie's parents divorced, Lucille Ball remarried and Lucie got a stepfather, Gary Morton. Lucie appreciated how positive Gary always was about Desi. Decades later, when she married a man who already had children, Lucie said she better understood what a tough role stepparent can be. Did you have a stepparent? Are you a stepparent? No and No.

8) As a single dad, Desi lived south of Los Angeles in Del Mar. Lucie and her brother, Desi Jr., spent school vacations there, going to the race track, bowling, and fishing with their dad. Share a happy memory from one of your school vacations (Christmas, Spring Break, or Summer).
I have mentioned this several times. My 6 week trip to Mexico in the 1971 with my school friend. I was almost 16 and I learned so much! When I came back my mom had decorated my room and got me two albums. Carole King's Tapestry and Sly and the Family Stone's Greatest Hits. Then I had a great party for my 16th birthday with my friends. I sure miss my mom and dad.

9) Father's Day began in Washington state. In the early 1900s, Spokane resident Sonora Smart Dodd listened to her minister deliver a sermon celebrating Mother's Day and devoted herself to similarly honoring fathers. A century later, more money is still spent annually on Mother's Day. Why do you suppose that nationally we still make more of a fuss over Mother's Day than Father's Day?
Mother's give birth to kids and usually nurture them.

Happy Father's Day to my dad and hubby! Hawaii June 2012.

Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

I am joining Susanne at Living to Tell the Story
and Sam at Saturday 9 for this weekend's memes.
Another week has flown bye!

Looking back over the week, I am thankful for many things. Here are 5.

Having all the grands here last Friday. My crafty club has a theme every month and it is strawberries for the month of June. So, I made an easy quick dessert for them.

Thankful for my new printer! I print a lot of graphics for my crafty club and Bible journaling. I have always used Cannon, but I end up getting an Epson and so far, I am happy with my choice. I saved money by getting an older version that doesn't have the touch buttons.

Thankful for a good eye appointment and no cost. I also only have to replace my lens. The frames are good and fit my face perfectly. I did get a prescription for computer glasses that will wait because we have to take Minnie to the vets next week for her procedures and there is no insurance. Please keep her in prayer.

Thankful to be able to take my grandson to his physical for his volunteer job at the hospital. I drove there and he drove back to the Crossing shopping center. He is meeting his friends to see The Karate Kid. Yesterday was the last day of school. Jazzy went home last week and left her room nice and neat. I go in there when I need to sew.

Thankful for the progress I am making when the decluttering in the garage. The weather will be great next week, and I will be busy in there. But I am only there for short periods of time and figure it to be exercise. I have now started my newest study on the book of Acts. Every year Illustrated Faith has 2 months of lessons with a camp theme. I decorate my crafty corner throughout the year. Decorating done, time for the camping journey on the study of Acts.

Saturday 9: Hold On (1990)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song gives encouragement to someone who is enduring heartache. Have you more recently given support, or received it? Given it.

2) "Hold On" is featured prominently in the 2011 movie Bridesmaids. It's an anthem for the friends in the film and they love to sing it together. Is there a song that reminds you of good times with a good friend? Girls Just want to have fun.

3) The video for this song finds Wilson Phillips outdoors on a snowy mountainside and then on a sandy beach. What's the view outside your window? My backyard. Plants on the shelf, palm trees, a birdbath and sometimes birds.

4) The mountain segments were filmed in California's San Gabriel Mountains. The girls were flown to the set by helicopter. Have you ever been in a helicopter? No.

5) The members of Wilson Phillips are authentic "California Girls." Wendy and Carnie Wilson's father is Brian Wilson, who wrote the Beach Boys hit. Chynna Phillips is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas, who sang "California Dreamin'." Have you been to California? If yes, where did you visit? I have lived here all my life, almost 70 years.

6) Another generation of the Wilson family has entered the music business. Carnie's daughter/Brian Wilson's granddaughter, Lola Bonfiglio, participated in the current season of American Idol. Has a family member followed you in your chosen profession? No. But my granddaughter likes to create things like I do.

7) In 1990, when this song was popular, satellite radio was in its infancy and streaming was unheard of.
Our cars gave us a choice of AM/FM and maybe CD player/tape deck. When you're driving and a favorite song comes on, are you more likely to sing along if you're alone? Or don't you care if anyone hears you?  I will sing if I know the song.

8) Also in 1990, actor Alan Hale Jr. died. He was "the skipper" on Gilligan's Island. Without looking it up, can you name the other six castaways? (If not the actors, then their characters.)
The millionaire and his wife. The Professor, Mary Ann and Ginger and Gilligan.

9) Random question: What superhero would you like to have as your best friend? Wonder Woman.
