Friday Favs 5 & Saturday 9

Another week has passed, and we went from spring to summer and now back to fall weather.
I don't mind, because before you know it, we will be in the 100's.

I am thankful for a great church service his past Sunday. Our pastor shared that he decided he doesn't plan to retire yet after all and we were all glad to hear it. We have been at our church for 32 years now. My oldest son met his wife there in youth group. My son proposed on a Wednesday night Bible study. and married a year later when the new facility opened up. Now are granddaughter sings on the worship team and her mom teaches at the school on campus.

Thankful for my Bible journaling group that met on Tuesday. I have 10 girls in my group. This week we talked about Jesus is the Cornerstone, and the Alpha and Omega. We talked about 3 of the women who followed Jesus and mentioned in Luke, Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Susanna.  We also talked about the story of the dry bones coming to life from the book of Ezekeil and a page from Isaiah. When I started Bible journaling, tried to do a lot of my own drawing, or traced figures that I colored in. But I have used more print outs since starting my group. There are a lot of Bible graphic on Etsy. You can see older pages I have one by going to the link on the top.

I am thankful for the current study I am doing for Lent using the names of Jesus. I love combining graphics with the Word.  It helps me to remember where the story comes from and the main ideas.
I found this page on my Facebook memories from 2017. I used stamps and watercolor.

I am thankful that we made it to our marriage group because my husband noticed the car was not running right. He was able to get it to the shop and get a loaner car. We celebrated a birthday with Bundt cupcakes and lots of food. The birthday boy(65) played the guitar as we sang a couple of songs. We talked about Moses at the burning bush and stating I AM.

Thankful to be back at PT, for another round for my back and shoulder. The therapist suggested I try acupuncture. I plan to make a doctor to go over my current treatment. I first started having numbing last May. It has gotten better. I also need to get to the dentist and the eye doctor, and I plan to make my calls next week.

I plan to meet with one my friends to Bible journal and have coffee at a local coffee house at the church near me on Friday. Hubby will be relaxing with the dogs. We are doggy sitting our grand doggy until Saturday. Hubby and I were going to see the Chosen Friday, but moved it to next Wednesday.

Saturday 9: Can't We Talk It Over (1950)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, The Andrews Sisters plead for verbal communication.  Is there someone you'd like to engage in a heart-to-heart conversation? I have recently had that with a friend.

2) They want to sit together for this talk. Think about the most recent personal conversation you had. Was it in person, over the phone, or via Zoom? I had a personal conversation with my Bible journaling group about the years I went through depression.

3) This week's tune was written by Victor Young. He was prolific, earning 22 Oscar nominations in 18 years. (His one win came after his sudden death at age 57.) Think about your friends and family. Who is the most active, productive person you know? I would say my friends Linda and Virgina.

4) The lyrics were written by Ned Washington, who is perhaps best remembered for "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Disney's Pinocchio. Do you believe, like Jiminy Cricket, that dreams come true?
For the most part no. But I know God answered many prayers.

5) This week's song is performed by The Andrews Sisters -- LaVerne, Maxine and Patty. Do you have siblings? If yes, are you the oldest, the middle child, or the baby?
Yes I have 3 siblings, two sisters and one brother.  I am the oldest and I will be 70 in August.

6) With more than 80 million records sold, the Andrews Sisters remain one of the most successful female vocal groups of all time. Name another girl group. The Supremes,

7) In 1950, the year "Can't We Talk It Over" was released, we were introduced to the Peanuts comic strip. Without looking it up, do you know who created Peanuts? Charles Schultz. His Peanuts Gang is prominent at Knotts Berry Farm. We hope to go to the Berry Festival in April.

8) In 1950, most suitcases were hard sided rectangles, with no wheels and a small handle at the top. They came in colors like tan, copper, green and blue. What does your luggage look like? I have several pieces of luggage. I also have several vintage pieces including some from the 50's. I will need to go look at them in the garage and get a picture.

9) Random question: Who was the last person to phone you? Did you pick up, or did it go to voice mail?
I will pick up if I know who is calling. If it is important, they will leave a message.

Tuesday 4 GWTW

Gone With the Wind is an epic novel and a big silver screen hit.

1.  Have you read the book or seen the movie Gone with the Wind and what did you think of it?
I have read the book 7 times and plan to read it at least one more time. There is more in the book that is not shown in the movie. I have my mom's copy in my bookshelf. I have seen the movie several times on the big screen and on TV. In fact, my hubby and I watched it last weekend. We watched 2hours on a Saturday and 2 hours on Sunday. I also own a DVD of the movie.
We watched it the week before the Academy awards.

The 1939 classic movie, “Gone with the Wind,” received a record 13 Academy Award nominations in 1940. The movie won 8 Academy Awards. This film held the record for, winning the most Oscars. Vivien Leigh won best actress and Hattie McDaniel got best actress and the first time a black woman received an Oscar.

2; Which character was your favorite?
I like many of the character. I loved Scarlet of course! Vivien Leigh was perfect for the part, but I also liked to Melanie. I loved Olivia De Havilland and also Hattie McDaniel who played Mammy.
If you didn't read it or see it. who is your favorite fictional character from a book or movie and why?

3. Are you a fan of big epic films like Dr. Zhivago, Gone with the Wind, etc." If not, what kind of films do you enjoy the most?
I like many of those epic movies. My mom and I watched many of them together and read the books. We saw Nicholas and Alexandra 1971 and I read the book. We also enjoyed musicals. I have been watching more movies from Turner Classic Network and recently saw Great Expectations Hubby and I plan to watch Fiddler on the Roof and To Sir with Love next weekend. In the past couple of weeks, we saw Ben Hur, Ten Commandments and
Birdman of Alcatraz. I am glad we can see these movies together.

4. The Ante Bellum era is indeed gone with the wind.  Is there an era in history that you are interested in or that you have a good deal of knowledge about? Perhaps there is an era you would like to learn more about?
I read several books on the Civil War in high school and college. I also read the sequel to GWTW called Scarlet. I wish Margaret Mitchel had written a sequel. I love historical Christian fiction. I plan to re-read the AD Chronicles. I read all 16 books from the Left Behind series last year. I spend a lot of time studying the Bible to prepare for my Bible journaling class.

Right now I am doing a Lent study on the names of Jesus. So my number one book is the Bible.
Season 14 of Call the Midwife starts this weekend on PBS. The rest of the series in on Netflix and I have read three books about the series.

Here is a list of some of the books since 1992. Pictures of me with the authors at Women of Faith.

GWTW graphic dolls purchased many years ago for my Country web home. Link on the left.

Friday Fave Five & Saturday 9

Happy Spring!

I am thankful for another week of life and joining Susanne for the Friday's Fave Five.

1.I am thankful for this past weekend. Granddaughter sang again as I mentioned Tuesday. She sang The Goodness of God that we got to hear Cece Winans sing at the end of the month. While we were at our church, my daughter was at her church. Later in the day she sent a video of her and her daughter, my granddaughter Jazzy getting baptized! It was not planned, or she would have invited us. The background music in the video was The Goodness of God and yes, God is good all the time! Later hubby and I watched the rest of Gone with the Wind that we had started on Saturday.

2. On Tuesday we celebrated my daughter in laws birthday and we went out to Chilis.

3. On Wednesday our married group went out to lunch at Chilis! We had a nice time. Some of the group went on to the movies. We didn't join them because we are going to see the Chosen next week. We did go to Michael's, and I was able to use a $10.00 credit and a 30% coupon. I was able to get something to use for my Bible journaling group that meets next week. Hubby and I watched Survivor

4. Thankful to be able to help out with the food ministry on Thursday. Most of our married group was there. We put together bags of food for the church and the community. After we went to Hobby Lobby and Aldi's. Then we got home and watched some programs we both like.

5. Thankful for beautiful spring weather and almost 80 with a breeze! I was able to go out and cut some succulents and made 12 little pots. I plan to give to give them to my Bible journaling group to go along with a lesson we will be doing. It was warm enough to let my hair dry naturally.

Saturday 9: Photograph (1973)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Ringo stumbles upon a photograph that reminds him of a lost love. Are there any photos displayed in the room you're in right now? Yes, one of my parents, one of my grands and one of my husband and I at our 25th anniversary. That was the bedroom, there are many more in the Family room. The grands rooms have pictures and my husband's study has pictures and paintings his mom did. Some even won first place at the Orange Country Fair.

2) While there are approximately 180 published songs credited to Lennon-McCartney, this is the only song written by Harrison-Starr. When you think of Ringo's old band, the Beatles, what's the first song that comes to mind? I Want to Hold Your Hand. I remember watching them on the Ed Sullivan show back in 1964. I really liked there old song from then.

3) George and Ringo wrote this song while on a yacht in the South of France. They, and their wives, had just attended Mick Jagger's wedding to Bianca in Saint Tropez and decided to take a little holiday together. What are your vacation plans for 2025? We went on a cruise in January to the Mexican Riviera. There are plans to go to Hawaii in the fall if the economy doesn't tank.

4) At 5'8, Ringo was the shortest Beatle and the only one with blue eyes. How tall are you? What's your eye color? I am 5ft and I have brown eyes. My mom was 5'2' and she had green eyes.

5) Ringo gave his first wife, Maureen, a one-of-a-kind birthday gift. Frank Sinatra recorded "The Lady Is a Tramp" with special lyrics, written just for her. Do you have anything that's personalized? (It could be a monogram on a scarf, it doesn't have to be as cool as a gift from Frank Sinatra.)
I have some jewelry that has my name that was a gift from my grandmother.

6) Ringo appeared as Mr. Conductor on Thomas the Tank Engine. He recorded the narration for the entire first season in just a week. Tell us what you did last week. Go to church work on my Lent study, declutter.

7) As a boy in Liverpool, Ringo loved watching American westerns. Do you like cowboy movies/shows? Not really. I like Little House in the Prairie and When Calls the Heart.

8) In 1973, when this song was a hit, former President Lyndon Johnson died. Who was President when you were a kid?
Dwight D Eisenhower (1953-1961)was president when I was born in 1955-. President Kennedy from 1961-1963. He was the one I remember the most. I remember when he was shot and teachers crying. We were sent home early and it was on the news. Lyndon B  Johnson 1963-1969, Gerald Ford 1974-74. Jimmy Carter was the first president I voted for. I have voted on both sides of the parties. I have never liked politics!

9) Random question: When you woke up this morning, did you know the day and date (before looking at your phone)? I am posting this Friday I knew what day it was. I even remember a dream I had.

Update and Tuesday 4

Today was a nice relaxing day. I stayed up watching another old movie I record from Turned Classics.
It was called The Best Years of Our Life. and came out in 1946. It was 3 hours long so I watched it on two nights. Hubby and I also watched Gone with the Wind this weekend. Watching the old movies makes me think of my mom because we used to watch them together. I spent a lot of time working on my Lent Faith journaling on the names of Jesus. Saturday I went to a women's event at our sister church and had a great time. We heard for 4 women speak after a great time of worship. Then we enjoyed a great lunch from 2 tables in a charcutier layout.

Sunday was a great day. Our younger grand sang the Goodness of God, It was one of the songs Cece Winans sang at the concert we went to a couple of weeks ago. But even more exciting was the fact that my daughter and granddaughter got baptized at her church. She said it was a last-minute decision, or she would have invited us. My grandson recorded it and sent it to us. What makes it special is that they were singing the Goodness of God while they were getting baptized!

I have a busy 3 days ahead and I got approved for more physical therapy!

March, they say, comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.
It is called the windy month like Chicago is called the windy city!

1.  Has March come in like a lion or a lamb in your neck of the woods?
Yes, we got wind and lots of much needed rain.

2. There have been some awful storms of late.. have you suffered through them or have you ever suffered through a very bad storm in your life? (if so we wish you well)
If you mean weather wise, no, nothing to serious. Life wise, yes, several.

3. Spring begins March 20th and ends with summer on June 20th this year. Any plans for Spring in general? How about the spring holidays?
Today is my daughter in laws birthday and we are going out to dinner. We are supposed to go to our son's timeshare for a couple of days in April. We celebrate our daughter and grandson's birthday on April 16. Easter is April 20th My Bible journal group meets in March and April. Our marriage group  meets weekly. Wednesday we are going to see The Last Supper after lunch. Hubby and I are going to see the Chosen next Friday at the movies.

4.  What are your favorite springtime flowers?  Trees or shrubs?
My roses are starting to bloom, and my plumerias are coming back to life. Our Meyer lemon still has a few lemons, but it also budding. I need to pick them and actually make something with them. We have a lot of succulents, and they are easy to care for.

How about a song with a springtime theme to it that you enjoy?
Easter comes either in March or April and this song makes me think of my grandma.

I Come to the Garden Alone

1 I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

Refrain
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

2 He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing;
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing. [Refrain]

3 I'd stay in the garden with Him
Tho' the night around me be falling;
But He bids me go; thro' the voice of woe,
His voice to me is calling. [Refrain]

Flowers from my garden.

Friday Faves 5 & Saturday 9

Welcome to Friday's Fave Five.  We are looking for our blessings of the past week and being thankful so that we do not take them for granted.  In the happiest of times or the darkest of days, there is always blessings from God if we take some time to notice them. From Joyce at Living to tell the story. Her link is at the left. Not sure what happened to my font size.

1. Thankful for another nice weekend. Always nice to hear are granddaughter sing at church. We took her brother to the Dollar Tree afterwards. Then hubby and I went out for lunch. We shared some beef soup with rice, beans and tortillas.

2, Thankful to be able to go to my Tuesday morning lifegrop. Lots of goodies to eat and a good lesson. Next week the group is going out to lunch.

3. Thankful that our church has a Senior fellowship once a month. My friend picked me up and we enjoyed seeing our friends and enjoying the food and laughter. We also pray and find out how we can help up in various community opportunities.

4. Thankful for all the much-needed rain we have received. It has been cold too! Thankful for warm robes and blanket.

5. Thankful to be able to see our  second son for lunch on Thursday. He told us that he and his wife are going to Boston next month and New York in August. We are glad they can travel!

Saturday 9: Southside Irish (1984)
Not familiar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1. This week's song was chosen because it's something of an anthem in Chicagoland around St. Patrick's Day. Can you name another song that makes you think of St. Patrick's Day or Ireland?
The theme to Lucky Charms?!

2. The Irish Choir sings that the "craic" is always best among the Windy City Irish. "Craic" is Irish for "fun" and "high spirits." Are you planning anything fun this weekend? I am going to a Women's Breakfast and one of our churches.

3. They tell us that their fathers came over from Mayo, Cork and Donegal. Where did your ancestors hail from? On Ancestry, it shows 40% Native Americas, 36% Spain, 8 Italy, 6% Portugal, 6% France, 2% Mali  1%Ireland  2% Jewish

4. The lyrics mention the rivalry between Chicago's two baseball teams. As Spring Training 2025 draws to a close, how do you feel about your baseball team's chances this season?
The Dodgers won last year! Not sure for this year.

5. The Chicago River is dyed green in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Does your community do anything to special for the holiday?
A shopping center is doing something, but we won't be going.

6. While this week's song focuses on the Irish population of Chicago, it's not the U.S. city with the highest percentage of citizens of Irish ancestry. According to the 2020 census, Boston is #1. Have you ever been to Boston?
Yes, I was there for one day in 2008 while on a cruise. My son and his wife are going next month. They want to eat a lot of clam chowder. I will have to tell them to try some Irish food.

7. On Monday, which is St. Patrick's Day, do you plan to wear green?
Yes, I usually wear something green.

8. Clovers are a recognized symbol of St. Patrick's Day, and a four-leaf clover is believed to bring good luck. Have you ever seen a four-leaf clover? I think so at the store.

9. Black coffee with whiskey and whipped cream is Irish Coffee. What's your standard coffee order? At home I have half calf Foglers with sweet cream creamer. I order a half calf at Starbucks with their sugar free vanilla. I add whip cream and top with cinnamon.

Previous page has a lot of pictures of me from the 1970's!

Tuesday 4 & Wednesday Hodgepodge

Teenage Years...

1. Did you have a teen heart throb? Wanna tell who it was and maybe why? Maybe there was a teen actress you looked up to? The Beatles. Bobby Sherman , Jermaine Jackson and a few more. I had a poster of Clark Gable with Vivian Leigh in my room. I thought he was sexy, even if he was dead.  I liked watching Peggy Lipton in Mod Squad and Angela Cartright in Lost in Space.

2.  When you were a teen, what song  made you happy when you heard it playing?  Did you and a boyfriend/friend have 'Your" song?
So many good songs in the 60's & 70's  I liked Spirit in the Sky. When I hear that song, I think of the kids from my church youth group at my house. We are in the garage playing ping pong and snacking. Bye Bye Miss American Pie was popular when I was 16. Certain songs remind
me of events and some remind me of people. Day by Day was popular in 1972 when I was dating Kevin Dodd along with many other great songs. I really liked Kevin. He would come over to help me with my Chemistry. We went to the Harvest Ball and football games, out to eat and the Silver Ball. we had lots of fun together. But then things slowed down. Years later he told me he was a new Christian and I was a temptation for him. I was happy he told me that. He gave me up for Jesus! He was a good friend of my cousin and my husband got to meet him at her wedding. I met his wife too and she even suggested he send back all the notes I had written him that he found when he closed out his mom's house after she passed

I made this outfit too. Those wide big pants were in style.

Spring Fling 1973
It was music that brought my husband and I together. When I was 17 and he was 18, our church youth group went to the Skate Ranch. I asked him to skate when it it was Girl ask boy dance. Later when we were talking about music, I told him I had the album to a song and it he wanted to come over and borrow it. After that, we started dating. We would send each letters and write names of songs on and in the letter. I still have those letters, and I know they are in a box in the garage.
You Make Me Feel Brand New- Stylistics
Just My Imagination- The Temptations
Killing Me Softly with his song-Roberta Flack
Natural High-Bloodstone
Feeling Stronger Every Day-Chicago

3.  Were sleep overs a thing in your area?  How about sweet 16 parties?   Were they the thing to do or not? I did have a party for my 16th birthday, but just with girls and very simple, food, cake and music. I had just come back from 6 weeks in Mexico and it was a great summer! I don't remember sleep overs, but lots of fun things that I did with clubs in High School and youth group.

4,   You are suddenly transported back in time and you are 16 years old.
You've got school tomorrow.. lay out your outfit for tomorrow and tell us what it consists of.

This is a dress I made. I made several dresses that year.
We could not wear pants until 1969 and this was 1972.
This is me with my dad. I sure miss him!

1. March 15th is known as The Ides of March, the date on which Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C....have you ever been to Rome? If so what did you love most about the city? If not, is this a place you'd like to visit?
No, never been and I would like to go, but I don't think it will happen.

2. 'Rome wasn't built in a day.' What project/activity/improvement (of any kind) do you have going on right now to which this saying might be applied?
I am going through boxes and purging things. It is taking time because of my various injuries. I am getting help with heavy things. There are a few projects we want to do, but we will wait and see what is going to happen with the economy and DC.

3. Let's do a little this or that with some Italian foods...
Caprese salad or Prosciutto with melon? Caprese salad
Bruschetta or Antipasto? Antipasto
lasagne or ravioli? Ravioli
bolognese or Carbonara? Bolognese
Risotto or gnocchi? Gnocchi
tiramisu~gelato~cannoli? Cannoli

4. Of the colors red, white, and green which would I find most prevalent in your home? White
Which one do you think is most flattering to you in terms of your wardrobe? White and black.
Have you ever had your colors done? Is that something you'd be interested in doing? No & no

5. Life would be boring without My faith, family & friends and Bible journaling.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
I love putting Scripture together with graphics. It can be in my journaling Bible, travel Bible or in a journal. I am working on a Lent project. It focuses on the names of Jesus. I am following a plan I found from a group on Facebook. I shared a picture on my previous post.

Here is another one. I purchased the graphic from Etsy, and added some of my own things.

Friday Favs Five & Saturday 9

Thankful for another week. The days are busy and I spend less time on the socials and more time in the Word and my crafting. I do like the memes I participate in and thankful for Susanne and Sam for their sites. Link on the right.

1.Thankful for a wonderful night last Friday at the Cece Winans concert! It was a blessing and special to be there with my granddaughter who is on our worship team.

2.Thankful for a nice weekend. Audrina and Elijah spent the night, and we got to work on our Bible journaling and Audrina got to paint. On Sunday we went to church and then lunch at Chilis after.

3.Thankful the Monday night Women's Bible study. We will be studying the names of God. I did this with my Bible journaling group last year. The book we are using for this group has 52 weeks of readings.

4.Thankful to know when my body needs extra rest so I did not make it to my Tuesday life group. We did make it our retired married life group morning. There was a worship night in the evening at church. The rain was heavy and I don't like driving at night. I decided to stay home and play worship music as I worked on my lent study. I also got caught up on my Bible reading through the Bible Recap plan.

5. Thankful for a good night's rest and a relaxing morning. I plan to work on my Lent study today and everyday. since Lent last 40 days. I was raised in the Methodist church and did not learn about Lent until I started Bible journaling in 2016.

I Can Love You Like That (1995)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
 1) This week's song is about a girl who grew up on the fairy tale Cinderella. The online teaching platform study.com says Cinderella has been remained popular for centuries because the moral is that kindness is a virtue that will be rewarded. As an adult, do you still believe that's true?
For the most part yes.

2) This girl also likes romantic movies. Think of your favorite screen couple. Did they live happily ever after? No. Clark Gable left Scarlet O'Hara. He realized that as much as he loved her, she could not love him back. She didn't realize that until he left her.

3) While "I Can Love You Like That" was a Top Ten hit here, it reached #1 in the Canada and Zimbabwe. Could you find Zimbabwe on a globe? Somewhere in Africa?

4) The members of this week's group, All-4-One, hail from Mojave, California. July and August are the hottest months in Mojave, when the afternoon temperature hovers between 87º and 97º and often climbs to 100º+. Do you thrive or melt in hot weather? I don't thrive in it, but I deal with it. Sounds like our weather here where I live.

5) After having several hits in the 1990s, All-4-One saw their popularity wane in the new millennium. While they never disbanded – and will be touring throughout 2025 – the members have pursued separate interests. For example, co-founder Delious Kennedy started a YouTube channel featuring interviews with celebrities from the 80s and 90s. Do you spend a lot of time on YouTube? If yes, what do you watch? I mostly listen to Christian music on YouTube. I also enjoy oldies. Some of my crafty groups have classes on YouTube that I enjoy.

6) In 1995, when this week's song was popular, Michael Jordan "unretired" and returned to the Chicago Bulls. Tell us about a decision you wish you could undo. Moving to this smaller home. I miss my last two homes. But life happens and we had to make a decision for our future and living comfortably on our retired income.

7) 1995 saw Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in Golden Eye. 007 was also played by Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Daniel Craig. Do you have a favorite Bond? No, and I think I have only seen one or two because hubby wanted to see them.

8) One of McDonald's best-selling 1995 Happy Meals featured The Power Rangers. 30 years later, those Happy Meal action figures are still available on eBay. Have you recently purchased anything on eBay?
I bought lots of meals for my kids and grandkids. Some for even me! I mostly purchase from Amazon though I have cut back. I buy a lot of digital graphics from Etsy. I have only bought a few things from Etsy.

9) Random question – Which compliment would please you the most: to be smart, great looking, or likeable? To be likeable. I do like when my BJ girls tell me I know a lot about the Bible. I shared this with my married life group. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. Knowledge without wisdom and heart means nothing.
