Friday Favs 5 & Saturday 9

Thankful for another week of life
and joining Susanne and Sam for the memes.
Links at left.

1 Thankful for a nice weekend. Hubby watched several movies on Saturday. We really enjoyed watching Ben Hur. It was 4 hours, and it was nice to put it on pause for breaks and food. Church was good and it is always a blessing when our granddaughter sings her solo leads or plays the keyboards in worship.

I know I may sound like a bragging, proud grandma, but she just reminds me of how faithful God is. When I was pregnant with her dad, I almost lost him and spent the whole pregnancy in bed after having had 3 miscarriages. I took care of her the first two years of her life while her parents worked. I rocked her in the same chair I rocked her dad and sang her the same songs I did to my kids and all my grands. So, she God's promise to me to have faith and trust in Him. Someday I will see my other 3 babies who are singing in Heaven now. I thank God for blessing me with 3 kids, 2 daughters in laws and 4 beautiful grandkids!

2. Thankful for physical therapy. My thumb is approving. I only have to go once a week, and I am waiting to see if I will get approved to go back for my back and shoulder. It is taking longer this time for approval. Not sure if it has to do with getting it approved through Medicare and our supplemental which is a Postal workers and Federal plan. Praying the craziness does not hurt us or others.
My hand is dipped in hot wax 3 times then wrapped in a bag.
Then my hand goes in a heated warmed towel.
After that, the therapist massages my thumb and then I do "exercises."
Finally, it goes in a compression chamber that also massages it.

3.Thankful for the taste of spring weather we have had this week. I was able to go outside and listen to my Bible Recap audio. I also got to pick a rose from our garden. I also saw a white dove that reminded my not to worry and I am trusting in God for all things.

4. Thankful for my women's lifegroup and our retired marriage lifegroup. Both days this week were a blessing!

5. Thankful to be going to a Christian concert in my town to hear Cece Winans. I heard her years ago at a Women of Faith Conference. I am so happy to be there with my granddaughter who sing on our worship team and sung one of Cece's songs, Goodness of God. Thankful I got tickets last year because the concert is sold out now.

Saturday 9: My Blue Heaven (1955)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The music for "My Blue Heaven" was written by Walter Donaldson. Mr. Donaldson was a gifted piano player who used his talent to entertain the troops on leave during WWI. What's something you're naturally good at? Being creative.

2) The lyrics were written by George Whiting. He began his career on stage as a song-and-dance man. While touring, he met and fell in love with another singer on the bill. They went on to marry and have three daughters. Have you ever engaged in a workplace romance? No. Well, I was dating my husband when we both worked there, but we did not meet there.

3) In this song, Doris Day sings about a cozy home. Look around the room you're in. What makes it cozy? Lots of family pictures, Bookcase with my Bibles and favorite books. I currently have a 4 foot rose gold slimline tree that is decorated with pink ornaments.

4) For four consecutive years, Doris was the most popular film actress in the world, with fans flocking to theaters to see her. Is there an actor or actress whose presence in a movie or TV show makes you say to yourself, "I want to see that?" Yes, I am sure there are. I love music, especially Christian music. Last year my granddaughter sang the Goodness of God and played the guitar at a recital. It is a song that has been sung by CeCe Wynans. So when we found out she was going to be at a concert in my city, we just had to go. I mentioned it to my daughter in law. The concert is today! My granddaughter and excited to her along with her mom and both grandmas.

5) For all her film and music success, she found herself broke in the late 1960s. Her husband had mismanaged her fortune, something she didn't discover until after his sudden death. Do you know how much is in your checking account right now? (We're not asking the amount; just whether you know.)
Yes, I just checked a couple of days ago and I get paid on the first.

6) Away from performing, Doris' passion was animal welfare. At one point she shared her home with more than a dozen dogs and went on to establish the Doris Day Animal Foundation. Do any pets share your home? Yes, we have a long haired, black and tan mini doxie named Minnie.
This picture was taken a couple of years ago after the confetti egg fun.

7) In 1955, when this song was a hit, cars came with AM radios but they were pretty unsophisticated by today's standards. The car needed to be on and "warmed up" a bit before the signal was picked up and that signal could easily be lost if you were bouncing over rough terrain. Today most new cars come with Bluetooth so you can enjoy infotainment through your phone. Do you listen to music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc., as you drive? Yes, we have Sirius XM in our car and I usually listen to the Message, a Christian station. But it also has channels for the 60's, 70's, 80's and Soul that hubby will listen to at times.

8) Also in 1955, the first McDonald's opened. Does your community have a McDonald's?
I think we have 4 of them but I don't really like to eat there.

9) Random question: How long have you known your newest friend? I have met several new friends these past couple of year at church. The newest one is Sue and I think I have known her for a year.

Friday Faves Five & Saturday 9

1.Thankful to be able to go out to lunch after church on Sunday. We had a guest speaker at church that gave us information about a Christian college in Missouri and my son got some information because he wants to go back to college.

2. Thankful that my son Daniel took his two nephews- our grandsons and his dad on a fishing trip at the beach. It was a good bonding time and they went out to BJ's afterwards. I got us use my son's car to go shopping. I had a gift card to use and got some things I needed to make sandwiches for my Bible journaling group.

3. Thankful for another successful Bible journaling day. Our topic was on seeking the Lord, hearing His call. Last year we covered the names of God. This year we are covering the names of Jesus. I chose John 14:6:  Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. I like to start the class with prayer and a song. I chose Show Me Your Ways Lord by Hillsong's Simply Worship CD.
Also, the 20th is the day I started Bible journaling, 9 years ago!
Here I am with my cousin Joanie

4. Thankful for better sleep. Waiting to here if I can continue physical therapy for my back.

5. Thankful for nicer weather.  We have had some beautiful sunsets. We will be 75 today and up to 85 by Wednesday, then it will drop.

Saturday 9: Flowers (2023)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Miley Cyrus sings about gold as though it represents the best. Do you more often wear gold or silver? Most of my jewelry is silver. I inherited my mom's ring that is gold.

2) She also sings the praises of buying herself flowers. Are there any cut flowers in your home right now? No

3) She tells us she's going to paint her nails cherry red. Do you handle your own mani/pedi, do you go to a salon, or do you just let your nails go natural? I usually go natural and only wear nail polish when I go somewhere. I had my nails done before my cruise and the gel messes up my nails. I am glad I did it so that it would look nice for the cruise. I wore a light shade of pink. I have 4 cruise pages done so far and they are listed on the top. I am almost finished with the 5th page.

4) In 2019, Miley had vocal cord surgery, and her recovery required her to go weeks without uttering a sound. Would it be difficult for you to keep your lips zipped for a week? Yes!

5) Dolly Parton is Miley's godmother, and Miley singles Dolly out as the one who taught her "how to treat people well." Tell us about someone who was a positive influence on you. There are a few people that have a positive influence. One person that really had a positive influence was Vera Parks, my supervisor at work. She encouraged me to go back to church on a regular basis.

6) She is a massive Elvis fan and swoons every time she watches Blue Hawaii because he professes his love for Maile, pronounced "Miley." What movie have you watched many times? A Christmas Carol, Gone with the Wind, The Sound of Music.

7) In 2023, when "Flowers" was released, actor Sir Michael Gambon died. Though he distinguished himself performing Shakespeare with the Royal National Theater, he is best known for playing Dumbledore in several Harry Potter movies. Who is your favorite Harry Potter character?
I have not seen any of the movies.

8) 2023 was a busy year for England's Royal Family, with the crowning of King Charles III and the publication of Prince Harry's memoir, Spare. Do you have a favorite among the Windsors?
Katherine and Diana. I enjoyed watching the Crown on the Netflix.

9) Random question: Do your siblings have children? If yes, are you close to them?
Yes, we are a close family. These are some of the second generation with spouses.

Here are the 3rd generation, our grands. 2 are missing.

Saturday 9: Cupid (1961)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Sam Cooke enlists the help of Cupid, the Roman god of love, to help him get a girl. In Greek mythology, the god of love and lust has a different name. Do you know what it? Eros.

2) Sam Cooke was inducted as a charter member into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The museum and hall are located in Cleveland, OH. Cleveland is proud of the six major museums featured on its website. When did you most recently visit a museum? The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. We got to meet a Holocaust Survivor. Kobe Bryant died that same day. January 26, 2020

3) Sam went to Wendall Phillips Academy, the same Chicago high school Nat King Cole attended. Can your high school claim any noteworthy alums? Bill Medley-one of the Righteous Brothers,  Diane Keaton-actress, Chuck Smith-founder of Calvary Chapel, Gerald Carr-Astronaut, Greg Louganis-Olympic medal swimmer. I did this page for my crafty group school project a few years ago.

4) "Cupid" was released in 1961. One of the major news stories of that year was the death of Ernest Hemingway. Have you read any of his works? Yes The Old Man and the Sea.

Since February 14 was Valentine's Day...

5) Sweethearts, those small heart-shaped candies printed with messages like "Be Mine" and "Kiss Me," are top sellers this time of year. Did you enjoy them as a child? Do you enjoy them now?
I did enjoy them as a child! I don't eat them anymore. I prefer chocolates.

 6) While Valentine's Day is popular in Mexico, it's celebrated a bit differently than it is here. For our neighbors to the south, it's a day for love and friendship, with no distinction between romantic, familial or platonic love. Do you tell your friends you love them? Or do you reserve "I love you" for your partner and family? I do say it to some of my friends.

7) In Poland, Valentine's Day, or Walentynki, is often celebrated with a gift of "tea and sweets" -- a tin of black tea paired with candy. Do you more often drink tea or coffee?
I drink a cup of coffee in the morning. I drink a cup of tea in the afternoon.

8) One of London's top accounting firms did a study and reports that in England, Valentine's Day is a 52%/48% affair. 52% of the participants planned on buying at least one card or gift, while 48% did not expect to spend anything on Valentine's Day. This year, were you one of the 52% or the 48%?
52%

9) A similar study in Rome showed that today's young lovers would prefer to share a romantic experience on Valentine's Day – a stroll through the gardens of Villa Borghese was a popular choice – than exchange gifts. Would you rather do something memorable for Valentine's Day or receive something you can retain as a keepsake?
We always go out for a nice meal. As long as I get a card, I am happy!

Update and Tuesday 4

We enjoyed a nice sunny weekend, and it was in the high 70's on Sunday. We went to church this past Sunday, and our granddaughter went with us after church for lunch and shopping. Then she came home to play with Minnie and practice on the piano. She will be playing the keyboard at the Women's worship night tonight.

The weather is changing, and rain is coming in which we need! I have been busy working on my Cruise pages and I have 3 done and they are linked above on the menu's tab.

Grandson Eddie got his permit today! His car is sitting in our driveway. His mom is getting it insured and then we can go with him as he drives. It will be about 6 months before he gets his license.

I went to PT this morning and my thumb is feeling better. I have more movement and less numbness.
The second illustration is what happened to me. The bone has reattached and not I have to exercise the tendon and muscles to get full use of the thumb. The thumb is still straight, but I have some movement.

1.  Do you feel happier as the weekend approaches?  Just how do you feel about weekends? I look forward to church on Sundays. I am retired, so most days are nice!

2. What are your weekends usually like and do you do anything special?   Do you attend a church/synagogue? Yes, I go to church. Our married group starts back this Thursday.

3. Do you sleep later on the weekend, or do you stay up later at all?  Are weekends for catching up on sleep? I am not a morning person, so I take my time most days unless I have to go to a meeting or doctor or PT appointment.

4. Do you read or watch more movies/TV on the weekends or catch up on things missed during the week? I watch TV throughout the week but do catch up on the weekend if we have to.
