Goodbye Rey

Our precious granddog Rey went to Doggie Heaven on Friday.
Our family is so sad. She was the best dog ever.
She was mom to our dog Minnie.

Rey is on the left, Cocoa and Minnie.

Friday's Fave Five & Saturday 9

Thanks to Susanne and Sam for the memes.
They are linked to the left.

Thankful that we were able to attend the wedding of our niece this past Saturday. The wedding was held at the home of my husband's cousin and her husband. They have a beautiful place in wine country in Temecula CA. Since I just taught my Bible journaling group about the trees in Israel, I was super excited to see some of the trees I had discussed. The property had olive, palms, fig and pomegranate. They also grown grapes for Moscato wine. Those grapes has just been harvested. We live about an hour away, so we were able to spend the night at my sisters house.

Thankful that my sister and I were able to get caught up with our lives as my hubby slept in the guest room. The next morning we went out to eat at a place our dad loved. We celebrated his birthday and discussing how quickly time had gone by since he passed in 2013. We have peace knowing mom and dad are in heaven and we will see them again someday. Thankful that our grandkids could take care of Minnie for us. She hates when we leave, but at least she the grands who she loves too.

Thankful that I did not have to go anywhere on Monday. I was able to relax with hubby and then work on my Bible journaling kits. I also stayed home on Tuesday morning, instead of going to my Lifegroup. I decided to listen to my body and spend the morning with heat on my back and studying for my next Bible journal event. I am doing my exercises the PT gave me, but I think I overdid one of them and heat really helped. Later we attended our grands bake sale fundraiser for their school.

Thankful that we were able to go sit with our grand dog that is sick.; Her name is Rey and she has an immune disease that might be related to the medicine she has been taking for seizures. She is the mom to our Minnie. Please keep Rey in prayer.

Thankful for my Wednesday night group as we discuss the book on Boundaries by Lysa Terkeurst. Also for our marriage group that met Thursday morning and physical therapy.

I got my MRI and most of it shows age related degeneration until they get to lower part of my spine. I have a slight bulge and tear. I am waiting to discuss this with my primary. I can walk and I can feel. The numbness is more aggravating than painful and hopefully things will not get worse.

Saturday 9: Cool Night (1981)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Paul Davis invites his old girlfriend to "come on over tonight." Have you more recently extended or received an invitation? My kids and I are planning a party for my husband.

2) He tells her she doesn't have to commit to any plans. Do you like having a schedule ahead of you with things to do delineated? Or do you prefer to see how your days naturally unfold? I prefer a schedule and I adjust when things do pop up.

3) He wants them to cuddle by the fire. Will tonight be a cool night where you are? For So Ca that still has summer days, 55 is great compared to the low 70's!

4) A quiet night in front of the fireplace is likely how Paul Davis spent many evenings. When he died in 2008, his best friend remembered him as a quiet man, "a homebody" who liked staying up late into the night enjoying conversation and music with friends. Describe your perfect evening. A quiet evening at home with hubby, watching our programs. Rainy night with the fireplace on.  We have the two older grans with us 4 days a week. They are older and not a lot of work.

5) Mr. Davis also enjoyed playing pool and golf. Do you have a liking for either of those games? I would choose miniature golf.

6) When he retired from music, Paul Davis returned to Meridian, MS, the town where he was born and grew up. Since we Americans can be a nomadic lot, let's find out: Is the town where you were born the same place where you spent most of your growing up years? I spent 35 years in the place I grew up in. I have spent the rest of my years in the town I am in now.

7) In 1981, when Paul Davis was a hit, so were The Rolling Stones with "Start Me Up." What's your favorite Rolling Stones' song? I Can't Get no Satisfaction 1965.

8) Also in 1981, Snoopy was all the rage, with kids and adults alike. You could buy Snoopy magnets, pencils, pencil sharpeners, note pads ... even a Snoopy bulletin board. If today we went shopping for office supplies, what would you pick up? Printer paper, ink and no bleed Sharpie pens.

9) Random question: In a biopic of your life, who would play your mom and dad? I have no idea.

Tuesday 4 & Wednesday Hodgepodge Fall

Sunday September 22 was the Autumnal Equinox, the first day of the Autumn season.

1. Are there pumpkins or chrysanthemums on your porch or are you planning on putting some out?
I have started decorating. I have a few more things to put out. I have decorated inside too.

2. What seasonal changes are you noticing in your part of the world? What would you add or take away?
I would like a real longer fall, and longer winter with a bit of snow and rain.

3. Is pumpkin pie on the menu for you this fall?  How about pumpkin spice or pumpkin latte coffee flavors? Are you a fan?   Spiced teas?  What do you like?  We have already had some pumpkin pie when my daughter brought it over last week. I bought a few small pumpkins for my table. I need to get some pumpkin spice creamer.

4. If there was a free week long tour of New England, complete with peak colors and a trip to Plimouth, Massachusetts (the colony site with historical players), would you come along?  If that doesn't suit, where would you like to go for your Autumn trip? I went on a New England cruise in 2008 and the Maine countryside was just starting to show it's fall colors. I would go back for a longer timeframe if I could. We can go up to Oak Glen, about an hour away and see some fall colors.

1. It's officially fall y'all...in the northern hemisphere anyway. What are three of your favorite things about this particular season of the year? It is not fall in So CA. We won't be there until mid October.
The cooler nights is always welcomed and the mosquitoes start to disappear!

2. Your favorite fall fabric-denim, flannel, tweed, corduroy, tartan, polar fleece, leather? Do you own something made with your favorite fall fabric? Fleece is nice and I have a couple of flannel shirts I wear over a t-shirt.

3. According to Everyday Health here are ten healthy fall foods- apples (flavonoids may improve brain health), pears (for heart friendly fiber), cranberries (helps your body fight oxidative stress) winter squash (for eye health), pumpkin (another great source of Vitamin A), leeks (an anti-inflammatory food), Brussel sprouts (full of fiber and anti-oxidants), sweet potatoes (loaded with Vit A and C), parsnips (keep your bones healthy with Vit K), and broccoli (may help prevent cancer).

How many on the list do you eat on a regular basis? Which one is your favorite? Which one gets a big no thanks from you? We ear broccoli every week. I eat an apple everyday. I like sweet potatoes and even put them in my homemade soups.

4. Tell us about the last time (or a recent time) you experienced a wave of nostalgia? A memory popped up on Facebook of my parents when we were on a New England cruise in 2008. We were celebrating my dad's 75th birthday on September 22.

5. Sept. 22nd was National Daughter's Day. Like mother, like daughter...does this idiom ring true for you? You may answer in terms of your own role as a daughter or, if you have daughters, then your role as a mother of daughters. I am like my mom. My daughter's temperament is not like mine. We do both tend to do too much. My oldest son is most like me and his daughter is a minnie me!

6. Insert your own random thought here. I am still waiting for the results of my MRI. I sent a message to my doctor and her assistant said it can take up to 14 working days. I started with a new physical therapy group and I think I have overdone some of the exercises and my lower back hurts more. Hopefully that will improve. I have dermatology appointment on Friday and a mammogram on Saturday.
I am resting today and working on my kits for my next Bible journaling group. We will be discussing the Jewish fall celebrations. I really dive into my Bible and online groups to get a better understanding. I will also talk about oils in the Bible and I plan to pass out a few samples of Frankincense and one called Joy since a verse says oil of joy or gladness. I plan to set the table with apples, honey and pomegranates. My hubby and I are going to a Jewish market in Orange Country so I can get some Challah bread they make round for Rosh Hashanah. In December we will talk about Hannukah and the Jesus Birth.

Friday Faves Five & Saturday 9

1.Thankful for a family dinner with fun and games at my son Daniel and Melinda's home. I love when my whole family gets together. I didn't get too many pictures this time. It was nice to see my sons playing the old Nintendo games. We were celebrating the September birthdays.

2. Thankful that we were able to go to church on Sunday. Our granddaughter sang planned, and we were really touched when toward the end of the song, she dropped to her knees. We knew it was the Holy Spirit, because it was not planned, and she did not do it at first or third service. Thank you Lord!

3. Thankful I was able to stay with Audrina on Tuesday. She had been sick the night before. I was able to take my homework and get it all done for my Wednesday night class. I was also able to read about the Jewish fall holy days coming up that I will discuss at my next Bible journaling group.

4. Thankful that our Marriage group was able to help prepare the food bags for Sunday's food day.
We took a picture after we were finished. Then we went in for a lunch they provided. Hubby and I also got fingerprinted so that we could be greeters again. Also if we are needed in children's ministry or security. We greeted from 1995-2005. Then we were busy with grands, aging parents. We normally help out at the special events. I was on the Women's board 1995-2006. I also did lay counseling.

5. Thankful that I am able to go back to physical therapy and I my request to no go to jury duty was approved. It would have started on Monday.

Looking forward to a family wedding in Temecula this weekend. We will be spending the night at my sister's home and we will go out to brunch on Sunday to remember our dad who would have been 91.

Saturday 9: Drive to You (2006)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Jewel sings that she can't sleep and is staring at the ceiling. Did you fall asleep easily last night? yes, but I woke up early because the dog was barking.

2) She concludes that the only thing to do is drive to her lover's side. Last time you got behind the wheel, where were you headed? Physical Therapy.

3) Jewel grew up in Alaska. Have you ever visited our largest state? Yes, in 2006 while on a cruise.

First stop, Juneau and the Mendenhall Glacier.

Skagway

Ketchikan

4) She once performed at the Sydney Opera House, which is more than 7,300 miles away from Anchorage. There are no direct commercial flights between those two cities. Given your choice, would you rather spend less on travel but have to change flights, or spend more and fly non-stop to your destination? Spend less. Non stop for a short flight.

5) Actor Sean Penn developed a crush on Jewel after seeing her perform on TV and attended many of her concerts during her 1995 tour. What's the best concert you ever saw? That is a hard one to answer. I really enjoyed the Adore Him Concert, Christmas season with Chris Tomlin featuring Lauen Daigle. Amy Grand and her husband and they introduces there little girl. I think that was in the 90's. 2019 Toby Mac with Mandisa, Danny Gokey and Ryan Stevenson. And next February we will hear Cece Winans with her More Than This tour. Oh, I can't forget the Beautiful Concert that features the music of Carole King.

6) She married Ty Murray, a successful rodeo cowboy. Have you ever attended a rodeo? No.

7) In 2006, the year "Drive to You" was released, Al Lewis died. He was best known as Grandpa on The Munsters. It's time for you to declare where you stand on this issue: do you prefer The Munsters of The Addams Family? Both were funny, but I would choose the Munsters.

8) 2006 was a very good one for tennis pro Roger Federer. He reached the finals in all four Grand Slam tournaments, and won three. What's the last game you won? (Yes, Wordle counts.) Word with Friends.

9) Random question: Using one word, how would you describe 2024 so far? Busy! Lots of health issues and appointments.

Friday's Fave Five & Saturday 9

Today I am thankful for cooler weather. We had a week of over 100 degrees weather and last Saturday it reached 109. I sure hope we don't get any more heatwaves this year, but in So California, anything is possible! Also thankful that we have air conditioning and solar panels!

Thankful that our Tuesday morning group started back up. It was nice to share what happened on our time off and pray for each other. There is always food to enjoy too!

Thankful for my Wednesday night class. We used to meet on Zoom, but it was nice meeting in person. We will be using a Lysa Terkeurst book called

Thankful that our marriage group started back too. Everyone brough food and I brought fruit.
Funny how we all share about our ailments for prayer request. I had my MRI on Wednesday and prayed through the whole procedure. I go for my Mammogram later today.

Thankful for m computer that lets me study for my next Bible journaling topic on oils in the Bible and the Jewish Fall festivals.  Here is a page we did at our September 3rd meetup.

Saturday 9: Minute by Minute (1979)
Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) It's easier to keep track of the minutes if your timepiece has a second hand. As you answer these questions, are you wearing a watch or can you see a clock that has a second hand? I can see a clock on the wall above the television. It does have a second hand.

2) In this song, Michael McDonald admits he knows his girl has lied to him. Do you suspect any one of your friends/family has fibbed to you recently? Not that I know of. In 2019, I went to a concert at the Orange Country Fair that featured Michael McDonald and Chala Kahn.

3) McDonald's big break came in 1973 when he joined Steely Dan's touring band. What do you consider your first professional success? My first job at Toy City at 14!

4) In 1975 he joined The Doobie Brothers. He was originally supposed to be a temporary replacement for Tom Johnston, but he ended up working with the band uninterrupted for seven years. Tell us about something that's happened to you that turned out better than you anticipated. Being forced to retire. It is a long story and they changed my hours so my husband and I could not car pool. So after two days, I told my husband I was done. I was 55 and eligible to retire, though I wanted to go to 62 for a better annuity. I used my vacation and sick leave. But it turned out for the best. I was able to take care of my new granddaughter and spend time with my dad. I have been officially retired since 2011.

5) In 1986 he guest starred on an episode of The Young and The Restless. Have you ever been hooked on a daytime drama? Yes, I used to watch All My Children and One Life to Live. I still watch General Hospital.

6) Michael and wife Amy raised their family near Nashville, where they had their own pond and a garden they lovingly tended. Do you enjoy yard work? Just a little. I tend to my plumerias and roses.

7) In 1979, when "Minute by Minute" was popular, movie star John Wayne died. In 2004, the US Postal Service honored him with a stamp. What was in the last envelope you stamped and dropped in a mailbox? My jury summons response. My doctor filled her part and said I cannot serve anymore because of my sarcopenia that keeps me from sitting still.

8) In 1979, the most popular new car was the Oldsmobile Cutlass. Ads promised drivers the Cutlass could make it easy to get in and out of tight parking spots. Are you good at parallel parking? I have not done that in years. but with all the help we get with rear viewing, I probably if I felt it was safe.

9) Random question: Did you know your great-grandparents? Yes, these are my mom's grandparents on her mom's side. I think they had 11 kids and lived until there 90's. You can't tell in this picture, but my grandpa Gus had blue eyes. My grandma had green eyes like my mom. A couple of my grandma's brothers had blue eyes. My great grandfather Augustine(Gus) was quiet and I liked his smile and the sparkle in his eye. My grandma Cruz seemed stern or maybe she was just tired after raising 11 kids! I was in grade school when they died.

I also met my mom's grandma on her dad's side. She was grandma Francis. She could not walk but I do not know why. She had really white wispy hair. I met my dad's grandpa Quirino on his mom's side. I have a copy of his draft card somewhere.
