Saturday 9

Saturday 9: On a Clear Day (1970)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Is today a clear day where you are? No cloudy and cool which is fine with me! I just checked the full moon and the clouds are covering it. It will be in the 90's by Wednesday.

2) Streisand sings that today she's "astounded." What has recently shocked or greatly surprised you?
How long it is taking my shoulder to heal. Also, how quickly the days go by. I see the PT on Monday, and I thought I had another week. I better to more exercises!

3) Streisand's voice astounded people from an early age. She began performing in New York clubs when she was only 18, too young to order a drink in the establishments where she sang. Do you remember the first adult beverage you ordered at a restaurant or bar? Yes, I was with my parents. I did not order it. I took a few sips but did not like the way I felt.

4) Barbra has discussed the importance of her Jewish faith in her life and has enlisted the guidance of Reform, Conservative and Orthodox rabbis as she explored her religion's complexities. Do you enjoy discussing religion? I am interested in Jewish history. I share some of what I learn with my Bible journaling group. It is Friday evening and the beginning of the Jewish celebration of Sukkot. The feast of Tabernacles. You can read about it here. It is to remember how the Jewish people lived in the desert after they left Egypt. It also celebrates the fall harvest. Our Spanish Ministry did this last year. I am standing in front of one of the tents before it is decorated with the dining table and the family decorations.

5) Taylor Swift just passed Barbra Streisand as the woman with the most #1 albums (12). What's the last album you purchased? Lauren Daigle Christmas CD.

6) The lyrics to "On a Clear Day" were written by Alan Jay Lerner. He attended Choate, a private boarding school in CT, at the same time as John F. Kennedy. While JFK was in the White House, Lerner had two major Broadway hits -- Camelot and My Fair Lady -- running concurrently. Obviously those two Choate alumni did very well. Have you been to any of your class reunions? Have you been surprised, pleasantly or less so, by how any of your classmates turned out?
I attended my 50th reunion last month. It was a nice event, but most of my friends did not attend. I color my hair and will until I am ready to go grey. It was interesting to see how many had aged. Many men looked really old, but then, they don't color their hair. The saddest things was the two poster boards of alumni that had passed.

I learned the song On A Clear Day when I was in Jr, high choir. A few weeks ago a question was asked about regrets. Not advancing to 8th grade glee was one of those things I would have done over. I would have taken it instead of physical science which I needed if I was going to take 9th grade biology. Choir and physical science were at the same time. I did enjoy physical science, but I loved singing.

7) The music was written by Burton Lane. In the 1930s, Lane worked for MGM Studios in Hollywood. After he heard Judy Garland perform at the Paramount Theater in Los Angeles, he brought her to the attention of his studio bosses and the rest, as they say, is history. Lane and Garland later worked together when Judy was an established star. He wrote the song, "How About You?" for her to sing in Babes on Broadway and received an Oscar nomination. Judy's best-known movie has to be The Wizard of Oz. How many times have you seen it? Maybe 30 times?

8) In 1970, Glenn Frey formed the Eagles. What's your favorite Eagles song? Best of My Love.

9) Random question: Which would upset you more, being trapped in an elevator or stranded atop a mountain in a ski lift? Ski Lift!

Currently & Tuesday 4

I have been at my sister's home since last Thursday. I brought my Bible journaling and crafts to work on while here. She works from home as a marriage and family therapist. Last time I was here, I enjoyed the pool and spa. I have had to stay away from the sun this time because I had a precancerous spot on my nose frozen. I have been out in the shade to do some light gardening and even some journaling. We have enjoyed some home cooked meals and late-night movies. We will see the rest of my family on Saturday for a grand nephew's birthday party at a park we all love. Though in the 80's, it will cool to the 70's.

Today is National Daughter's Day. Here is a picture of me with my daughter and daughters-in-laws.
I hosted a table at a tea for a fundraiser back in 2017. You can see more pictures here.

Last Friday, my grandson was presented as a part of the Homecoming Court as sophomore prince.

Yom Kippur began Sunday Evening and ends tonight. It is the Jewish Holy day. It is the day of Atonement. In the Old Testament, animal was sacrificed to cover the sins of the people for year. In the New Testament, Jesus was the sacrifice so that our sins can be forgiven. You can read more here.

An Autumn Day

1. We have a choice of skeet shooting, horseback riding, a sail on their lake or games on the lawn like lawn tennis, croquette, etc.    Are you interested in one or will you stay at the house reading or talking with friends? I would go sailing!

2.  In the afternoon there is a hayride to enjoy fall colors and pumpkin or apple picking.  Which one suits you best? I would go on the hayride.

3.  In the evening there will be a choice of movies in their screening room. What movie gets your vote?
I don't know what the selections are.

4.  Our last night there is a costume ball.  What will your costume or character be? Queen Esther.
I just finished reading the book A Night with the King. The story of Queen Esther.

Friday Fav Five and Saturday 9

I am linking to Susanne's here.

1. I am thankful for that I had a great dad and great relationship with him. Today he would have ben 90's years old. He passed away 10 years ago. I can't believe how quickly those 10 years have gone by.

2. I am thankful that my dad deeded his house to my sister. I am spending a few days with her. Both of my parents died in this home. My sister has made the house her home, just like she and dad had discussed during his few weeks of his life.

3. Thankful that my husband is okay with me being here. We had lunch as a Mexican place in Temecula. He took me to Joann's to get some fall material and Aldis to get some food to take to my sister's house.

4. Thankful my grandson was voted in as a homecoming prince. My husband will go to the game and take pictures. His sister is in the Cologuard and performs at the games. I did not know about this until after I arrived at my sister's house. Thankful that my older grands are doing well in high school, but in honors classes and both want to go to college. Eddie wants to be a surgeon and Jazzy wants to be a writer. I am praying for them!

5. Thankful that I have my laptop. I can do studies here, put together the kits for my Bible journaling group, pay my bills, and connect with others like you!

Saturday 9: Answer the Phone (2001) Listen here.

1) This song likens a relationship to a roller coaster ride. When did you most recently visit an amusement park? Last December, with my family.

2) Lead singer Mark McGrath reasons that his girl should answer the phone because he knows she's home. That was decades ago, when most homes still had landlines. Where were you when you took your last call? Were you at home? I was at work the last time I used a landline, and that was November 2010. I spoke with my husband Friday while at my sisters house.

3) He remembers the glow of her face when he gave her a rose. Have you recently given or received a gift of flowers or a plant? My husband picks roses and plumerias from our garden and arranges them on the kitchen table for me. He will also fill a small vase so I can have them in my room.

4) Sugar Ray's debut CD was called Lemonade and Brownies. Crazy Sam admits she'd prefer milk with her brownie. What about you? Does the combination of lemonade and brownies sound good to you?
I can't drink lemonade, but even if I could, not with brownies. I would prefer a cold glass of milk.

5) In 2005, Mark McGrath was a guest judge on American Idol. At one time, Idol was the dominant singing competition show. Today, in addition to American Idol, viewers can also watch The Voice and America's Got Talent. Are you a fan of any or all of these shows?
I enjoy them all. I have been on the set of American Idol and America's Got talent twice.
Luke Perry, Katy Perry and Lionel Ritchie behind me.

6) Sugar Ray is a famous name in boxing circles. Sugar Ray Robinson and  Sugar Ray Leonard were both world championships. Are you a boxing fan? No.

7) In 2001, when this song was popular, the Leaning Tower of Pisa reopened to the public after more than a decade of renovations. Have you ever been to Italy? If yes, where did you go? If not, is a trip to Italy on your wish list? Never have been. I would go if the opportunity came up.

8) Also in 2001, Liverpool's Speke Airport was renamed John Lennon Airport. Liverpool's is the first airport in the United Kingdom to be named after an individual. Tell us about something in your hometown that is named after someone. Can't think of anything right now. Monster energy drinks are made in my city. Fender music is in our city too.

9) Random Question: Is the screen on your cell phone cracked? No, I got a new screen cover in August before my Oregon trip.

Tuesday 4 and Wednesday Hodgepodge

It is late Monday night and I have a busy week ahead of me. I went to physical therapy today for my shoulder and then hubby and I went to lunch. Tomorrow, I meet a friend to Bible journal at our local coffee shop. Then I see my regular doctor for a follow up to my rib injury, which is doing great, but not dealing with acid reflux because of the Motrin I was taking. Thursday I will be going to my sister's house for 5 days and will be packing my clothes and crafts to take. I do plan to take my computer. We are enjoying fall like weather, but I still plan to take a swimsuit to soak in her spa.

Wednesday Hodgepodge is below Tuesday 4.

Links to Memes are on the left.

1. Are you artistic in any way and if so, how so? Knitting, crochet, drawing, painting, writing lovely word art, home décor, lovely meals?  There are many ways to be artistic. I would say I am creative. I know how to sew, knit, but I love Bible journaling. I can paint, watercolor, and try other forms of creativity to express what I am reading in the Bible.

2. Does any art hang on your walls or grace your tables or shelves at home? How about your front door or windows.. what about your yard? I would not call it art, I would call it seasonal decor. I do put up a seasonal wreath and garden flags.  It all comes from creative minds.

3. Do you have a favorite artist or artists and do you have a favorite piece of art? My mother in law was a great artist. She won blue ribbons and the Orange Country Fair. She did a few paintings for pay. She did people and scene. We put her fall picture up every year that she gave my husband one year for his birthday. We inherited several of her paintings along with her baby grand piano.

4.  Home décor can be art. When you bought things for your home did you plan out the décor or did it all just fall together. Was there a theme? I am more of a country girl and like to decorate with things I love. I like to decorate seasonally. I am more about comfort and coziness than I am about the latest trends. I think a person should do what they want regardless of what the latest trend is. Now that we are on a fixed income, we can't change things on a whim. There are things I would like to do, but I don't want to pay the ridiculous amount of money it cost to do it.

1. If your life had a theme song for this past year, what would it be?  Rollercoaster!

2. Chocolate cake, chocolate milkshake, chocolate ice cream, chocolate truffle, chocolate mousse, chocolate candy bar or a fudgy chocolate brownie...of the chocolate treats listed, which one is your favorite? Which one have you tasted most recently? Or maybe you don't like chocolate??? I love chocolate! I would choose a fudgy chocolate brownie. The best chocolate dessert was a warm chocolate pudding cake we had on the last day of our New England cruise. It was supreme. Nothing better than my husband's Mexican hot chocolate.

3. What has surprised you recently? How easy it is to get hurt.

4. September 19th is National Voter Registration Day in the US. Are you registered to vote in whatever state or country you happen to live in right now? If not, why not? Not counting a political race, what's something you've had to vote on recently? Yes, I am registered.

5. Do you like to hike? If so, when's the last time you went hiking and where'd ya go? If you're not a hiker are you a walker? Is walking (for exercise, etc.) part of your daily/weekly routine? I went on a hike a year ago in Lake Tahoe CA/Nevada Forrest. We left our hotel, climbed up for several hours, saw a waterfall, and then back down. It was great except we ran out of water.  I think we did 9 miles that day! We also did a lot of walking on our trip this year to Oregon.

6. Insert your own random thought here. We are getting a taste of fall this week and next. We are normally in the 90's this time of the year, even some 100's. It has been in the low 80's this week going down to the 70's. I love it. I don't have to run the air as much. Good, because the overcast days don't allow the solar panels to get as much sun power. I decorated the house for fall inside and hope to do the outside next week. Did I say I like scarecrows? I love the harvest decor, but not Halloween.

Friday Five Fav and Saturday 9

Here is my Friday Five that is hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story.
1. My rib getting better, though my tummy is acting up, probably from all the Motrin I was taking.
2. Having lunch with my long time friend Lissette and her husband Jack. I met Lissette when I was in 7th grade. We met at one of our favorite Mexican food places in Old Town Orange. They treated us too!

3. Thankful for my first pumpkin treat my hubby got while we were still in Old Town Orange.
It was the most delicious pumpkin cheesecake! The next day I went out and got my pumpkin creamer
for the season. Just right since we have had much cooler weather all week and it will continue next week. This is not normal for us in So CA. We are usually still in the high 90's.

4. Thankful for the things I learn from Bible journaling.
5. Thankful for a comfortable bed. I hope I can sleep better tonight. (late Friday night)

Saturday 9: Got My Mind Set On You (1987)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, George Harrison tells us he's willing to devote his money, patience and time to his girlfriend. Of those three things, which can you most easily spare? Time

2) This song had long been a favorite of George's. He first heard it in 1963 when visiting his sister in United States. He couldn't get the tune out of his mind and bought the record by James Ray. Do you have an earworm -- a song that, once you hear it, keeps repeating in your head? Shout to the Lord is what is in my mind right now. I am reading a book by that title and preparing for my next Bible journaling lesson on praise and worship.

3) Months later, in February 1964, the Beatles made their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. 73 million viewers saw them, and an astonishing 45.3% of the TV sets in America were tuned in to the show. In addition to the Beatles, Ed Sullivan used his show to introduce Elvis, The Rolling Stones and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show ran for 23 years and reruns are now shown in syndication.
Have you ever seen it? Yes, I did I watched it with my parents, and I remember the Beatles and the Jackson Five. I really enjoyed Motown music. I think I was in 8th grade when the Jackson 5 went on the show. I still have my 45's from The Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Martha & the Vandellas, Gladys Knight & the Pips and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. All guest on the Ed Sullivan show.  I think in the 3rd or 4th grade when the Beatles were on. I do remember all those early songs because my mom played them and I had my own radio to listen. You can read more about the Ed Sullivan Show here.

4) While most of the best loved and most recognized Beatles songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, it was George who penned "Something." Frank Sinatra called that song "the greatest love song of the last 50 years." What's your favorite love song? Jesus Loves the Little Children. I learned it as a very young child, sang it to all my kids and grands.

5) This praise represented a big change for Frank, who predicted in 1964 that the Beatles would be "of no lasting importance." Tell us about something you have changed your mind about. Thinking that this would be the perfect retirement home for us. We rushed into it, thinking we could fix things up, but we ran out of money for the big projects.

6) Tom Petty, who went on to have more than 25 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, credits George Harrison
as a major influence on his music. Tell us about someone who influenced your professional life.
Vera Parks was one of my supervisors in the Marketing Department and she took under her wing and taught me a lot of things. She was also a Christian woman that encouraged me in my faith. The other person at work was Yvonne. She taught me a lot about working on the computers and working with spreadsheets and graphics.

7) In 1987, when George's recording of "I Got My Mind Set on You" was popular, a squirrel unexpectedly made headlines. The furry fellow closed down the Nasdaq Stock Exchange when he chewed through a phone line. Do you often see squirrels where you live? Once in awhile as I live in the city. I see a lot of them when I go to a park I like in the city before ours. The squirrel is also the mascot of my craft group. I just got a coffee mug with a squirrel on it.

8) Also in 1987, third generation race car driver Marco Andretti was born. Naturally the skills required by a race car driver are unique. For example, while we know he can control a car at upwards of 230 mph at Indy, we have no idea if Marco Andretti is good at parallel parking in front of the local post office. How about you? Do you struggle with parallel parking? I never need to do it.

9) Random question: When you woke up this morning, were you ready to face the day? Or do you wish you could have rolled over and snoozed a little longer? I am not a morning person, so I am slow getting out of bed. especially if I had a bad night, not getting enough sleep.

Birthdays, Tuesday 4 and Wednesday Hodgepodge

We celebrated Daniel(hat) and Melinda's 40th birthday at Lucille's.
Later we took Elijah and Audrina to the church school fundraiser.

On Sunday we went to first service at church and then we went to
brunch at the Pomona Mining Company with Daniel and Melinda. The food was great!

Its Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 once again and I thought it might be nice to talk about our gardens or house plants.  After all, houseplants are indoor gardens and fish aquariums can be water gardens.

1. Do you have a garden indoors or outdoors?  Houseplants count, I think.  If not, why don't you have them? I have some pothos growing in water in the house. I have a succulent plant in the house that my sister
made me. We have lots of succulents in the front yard and backyard. We have about 12 rose plants in the front yard along the side. We also have some plumerias growing and they smell so good!

2. Have you visited Longwood Gardens or any of the large gardens and horticultural sites around the world or your state? Tell us about it. A couple of years ago we went to Roger's Gardens in Newport Beach CA. I would like to go when they decorate for Christmas. We went a few years ago for our anniversary after having lunch at the beach.

3.  Most people really enjoy a little garden, but I think we sometimes make too many excuses not to do things we really would enjoy. Too busy, not enough space, etc.  But if we put our minds to it, anything is possible Do you believe that? I used to garden a lot for many years. Once we moved to this home, I was excited to get my rose garden going. I enjoy my plumerias too. But since I started Bible journaling, I spend most of my time doing that. My husbands will pick flowers in the morning and bring them in for me. They smell so good too!

4. Ideally, what flowers, shrubs and trees do you want in your little garden real or imagined?
I would like to get a yellow plumeria. We had a nice one that died because of heavy rainfall.

1. Did you watch any coverage of the 9/11 services on Monday? Yes.
How do you feel on this day some 22 years after the events occurred? I am glad this day is not forgotten. It is history and all history, whether good or bad should be taught.

2. September 13th is National Peanut Day...do you like peanuts? Your favorite dish that contains peanuts? Yes, I enjoy peanuts. I like to eat peanut butter with apples or a bananas for my evening snack. I love peanut butter cookies and Reese's Peanut Butter cups.

3. Something you're currently 'nuts' about? The heating pad I am using for my ribs and back. My ribs are healing, but my back hurts mor in one sport. I guess I jarred it too when I got hurt. I am waiting to get an appointment with the endocrinologist that handles osteoporosis. I am going to see if they can do an x-ray of my spine to see if there are any changes in my spine.

4. Your favorite Peanuts character? There are several quizzes online if you're curious...I took two and got the same character for both so I'm sure it's accurate lol. (Click here for the link) Marcy.

5. Tell us about a job you worked 'for peanuts'? Probably my first job as babysitter.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I need to get to bed earlier. It is almost midnight!

This is the picture I took from the last full moon. I used a Cannon camera with a zoom.
