Friday Fav Five and Injury update.

Another week had gone bye and lots to be thankful for!

1.Thankful for being to attend my 50th class reunion. There are pictures on the previous post. Thankful that my husband was willing to go. He is an introvert, and he did not go to my school, but he did know one of the guys on the reunion committee. I started dating him when I was a senior back in 1973. We got married in 1974. Here is picture from the past and most recent.

2. Thankful for the two nights we spent in Orange County. We stayed at an Embassy Suites close to the reunion. We enjoyed the breakfast there. I had a bacon, cheese, spinach and mushroom omelet with fruit. It was very good! After breakfast, we headed to our next destination in San Clemente Ca. Is was in the low 80's at the beach while over a 100 in our city. The hotel was really nice, and we had a view of the ocean. Once we got settled, we went to have lunch at a place suggested by the hotel. To make the story short, I hurt my rib. The details are in the previous post.

3. Thankful that in spite of the hairline fracture, I am doing well. So thankful that we have good insurance. Thankful to manage the pain with Motrin, ice and Little House on the Prairie series. Thankful that hubby and I got to enjoy the reclining chairs when we saw Golda at the movies.

4. Thankful that in spite of my injury, we still had a nice time at the beach. We hope to get back to the beach sometimes in September. The sports on the picture below are on the window of our bedroom.

5. Thankful to have time to work on my next Bible journaling day next week and to enjoy a creative project with my crafting group.
We got a list of 25 things we had to do. We used what we had in our crafty stash. It was fun to do!

Tuesday 4, Reunion and Recuperating

Could we talk about toys?  Toys are important to children and sometimes to adults as well.   There are memories tied up with toys we loved, toys we miss having in our lives.  We found comfort in them, excitement with them and just fun times over all.

1. What was your favorite all time toy?
That would be my doll Jeanette my mom(Santa?) gave me when I was 8. I still have her. In the 90's my son and nephew played football with her and ruined her eyes. I cried and then gave them a big lecture. Later I put her in my sons bed when he was asleep and scared him.

2. What kind of toys did you enjoy growing up?
I liked dolls of course and had all the Barbie dolls. My mom worked for a toy store called Toy City. She managed 9 stores. We didn't get toys all the time. I also got a doctor's medical bag as they were grooming me for that. I loved playing doctor. I was a tomboy too and loved my bike and skateboard. One of my earliest memories is me playing with the boys in the neighborhood. I think I was 4. I didn't like that they could pee behind my playhouse, and I couldn't. I didn't like that they could take off their shirts and I couldn't. I was very completive and as least I had the "clubhouse" When I was around 9, my dad helped me build a clubhouse out of large pieces of cardboard.

3.  I think certain bric a brac in the home could be a kind of grown up's toy.  What is in your home just purely to make you happy?
My crafting supplies and my crafty corner. I also have some Mickey and Minnie Plush.

4.What games were your favorites and do you still play any games?
I liked Monopoly and Scrabble. I play Word with Friends on my Iphone. It makes my mind work. I loved playing tetherball and hopscotch. Also, a game we called skip tape.

My weekend was busy and interesting. On Saturday I went to my high school's 50th reunion. It was fun. They had a photo area. I didn't take too many pictures. It was sad to see the posters honoring classmates that had passed in the past five year.

Jackie and Veronica.
Jackie worked with my husband at the postal service.

I have known Lana since elementary school.
She was on the reunion committee.
She also work in real estate with my dad.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites that night.
The next day we headed to San Clemente Beach
and had a great room overlooking the sea.

The next day we went out to lunch that was recommended by the hotel.
I was trying to take a picture and stood on a brick wall.
My husband was helping me down, but I fell into him as I went down.
I felt a pop and pain in my rib area and was worried.
I took a Motrin and we headed to the beach was just a few blocks away.
We had a nice walk on the pier, grabbed some clam chowder and headed the hotel.
I took some Motrin, but did not sleep well because I worried about my ribs.
The next morning I called an advise nurse and she wanted me to go to ER.
After 3 hours and x-rays, we left. The doctor said I might have a hairline fracture.
and they don't always show on the x-rays especially with osteoporosis.

We went to the movies afterwards and sat in leather recliners that were heated.
We saw Golda. It was not an easy movie to see since it was about the War in 1973
between Israel, Egypt and Syria. I have been reading a book that mentioned it.
We got home around 9pm, after the 102 heat in my town had gone down to 84.

Today I rested and iced my ribs according to doctor's instructions.
I won't be climbing any walls to take a picture again!

Frday Fave Five and Saturday 9

It's hard to believe I was in Oregon a week ago today. Time goes by so quickly!

I am going out of town for a few days with hubby for my 50th class reunion.
Posting both Friday Fave Five and Saturday 9. Links on the left.

1.I am thankful that I got to go on this trip with my friends! There were so many beautiful sites.
This was the view from our room at the Riverside Inn.

2. For all the great food we had each day. The Riverside Inn had a great breakfast each morning. We ate a late lunch each day at some great restaurants. Desert too!

3. For being able to meet up with my online friend Theresa. We met in a crafty group and are also in the Bible journaling group called Illustrated Faith.

4. The jet ride on the Rogue River and trip to the Lighthouse I mentioned in my previous post.

5. God's beauty everywhere, in spite of the nearby fires and heat.

Saturday 9: My Sharona (1979)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The Knack's lead singer Doug Fieger wrote this song for his girlfriend, Sharona Alperin. That's Sharona on the record sleeve shown here. Who took the most recent photo of you? Linda took a group  selfie with my friends,  when we arrived back to Ontario airport on the 21.

2) Today Sharona Alperin is a realtor in Southern California. (The photo on her website is more demure than the record sleeve.) She specializes in high-end properties. Have you ever attended an open house, not because you were interested in purchasing the property but because you were curious about the inside? Yes.

3) Doug Fieger's brother is Geoffrey Fieger, a prominent attorney in Detroit. Have you ever consulted a lawyer? Yes, when we did our living trust.

4) The Knack's record producer was Jimmy Miller, who also worked with The Rolling Stones. What's your favorite Rolling Stones song? Ruby Tuesday 1967, I was in 7th grade. I like the beat to Honky Tonk Woman.

5) In 1994, more than a decade after its initial release, "My Sharona" became popular with a new audience because it was included on the soundtrack of the movie Reality Bites. What's the most recent movie you watched? At the movies:Indiana Jones.

6) President George W. Bush said he loved listening to "My Sharona" on his headphones while riding his bike. Do you often have music on when you exercise? Yes and when I am working on a crafty project.

7) In 1979, when this song was popular, the CBS TV show Alice was a hit. It was about a widowed mom who made ends meet working in a diner. Have you ever worked at a restaurant? No.

8) Also in 1979, the Voyager spacecraft sent back photos of Jupiter and its rings. Without looking it up, can you name all the planets in our solar system? Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. I know they say Pluto is not a planet, but it was when I learned about the Solar System.

9) Random question: If you could erase your most painful day from your memory, would you do it?
I have a few, but losing my first baby would be first. I could not erase the 2nd two I lost, because my son would not have been born.

Tuesday 4 & Oregon Vacay

♫Summer time and the living is easy says the song.
So how is summer going for you? Let's talk about it.....

1. How has it been so far? Great! I just got back from a vacation to Oregon with my friends. We left last Tuesday at 6am. We landed in Eugene Oregon and headed to Grants Pass. There were so many trees! We stayed at the Riverside and we had a river view.
This is the Rogue River and we could see the jets go by from our view.

The Hellgate Jetboat Excursions is a company that offers jet boat rides down the wild and scenic Rogue River through the Historic Hellgate Canyon. The name “Hellgate” comes from the narrowest part of the canyon where the river flows through a narrow channel of rock only 22 feet wide. The name was given by early pioneers who had to navigate through this treacherous section of the river. The jet boat ride is a fully narrated excursion where guests can take in the sights and sounds of native wildlife as they glide inches above the river. (Info from Bing)

I am in the second row wearing the white hat. We did get wet!

These films had scenes filmed on the Rogue River.

Rooster Cogburn

2. What have you been doing this summer? We mostly stay in because the weather is hot and the mosquitoes out. I went to my sister's house last month and will go again in September. My grand daughter and I celebrated our birthdays on August 12th and we had a wonderful family dinner to celebrate. Hubby and I celebrated 49 years of marriage at the Mission Inn in Riverside California.

3. What are you going to do? Any plans? Hubby and I are going to my high school reunion this Saturday in my hometown. We will spend the night and then go to the Newport Beach for on Sunday.  Though the grands are back in school, it is still summer to me. When I was a kid, we went back to school after Labor Day. Summer weather last until mid-October here is So California. Speaking of Newport, we visited Newport Oregon and saw the Yaquina Lighthouse. Our entry to the park was free since we went on the 150th anniversary of the lighthouse.

4. It's been hot in most of the country but here on the Jersey coast it's been perfect so far. Not too hot, not too cool but just right with breezes.   How are you weathering the heat. Any tips on staying cool on hot, humid days?  Clothing, food, drinks, fans, air conditioning? Let us know your secrets to keeping cooler. I wear shorts and tanks around the house. I wear capris when I am out and about. I like to wear dresses to church. We run the air throughout the day. We also use fans to stay cool and to help us sleep.

Currently and Tuesday 4

Currently

I am thinking about my vacation that starts on Tuesday. We have to be at the airport at 4:30am and we fly out at 6am. We change planes in Oakland and then we change planes and head to Eugene Oregon.

I am thankful for my family. My kids cooked a delicious meal on Sunday. All my kids were there to celebrate mine and Jazzy's birthday.

One of my favorite things: Bible journaling

I am creating: Nothing, I have been busy packing. But I did get my nails done. My kids gave me money for my birthday.

I am wearing: 2-piece short pajamas since it is nighttime. I feel refreshed after a long shower.

I am reading (read) /watching Little House on the Prairie and I read a little before I go to bed. Still reading Israel My Beloved.

I am hoping that everything goes well with our flight. Oregon is having a heatwave.

I am learning to have more patience with myself.

In my kitchen, closed! We had leftovers. Chicken, salmon, potatoes and salad. I am drinking a glass of milk that I had with a Motrin.

Shared Quote

A moment from my day. Shopping for last minute things like allergy medicine, sunglasses and a new bag for my travel grooming essentials. I forgot the Salon Pas pain patches.

Praying for Hawaii. I have been pretty sad about the devastation in Hawaii. We were supposed to be going to Maui in the spring. I was last there in 2023 for a family wedding. I will leave a link to my photo website of that trip on the end of this post. Here is the picture of my dad, hubby, sister and I under the giant banyan tree. They are hoping it survives.

1. Do you have a favorite bird? The Eagle, it is so majestic. We saw them in Alaska. I like geese too because they make me think of my parents. Here are some from the park I like to go to.

2. Do you find singing birds comforting or annoying? I like to hear them when I am awake. I like to see them playing in the birdbath.

3. Can you recognize the songs of particular birds or is it all the same to you? I like the way doves coo. There are not many different birds here in the city. We do get hummingbirds and they can be loud when they are fighting over the flowers.

4. Every year many birds die from being fed too much sugar.  Grape jelly glues shut the beaks of birds and honey, corn syrup or other substitutes to white sugar does the same to hummingbirds. We are warned to use only white refined sugar for hummingbirds.  Do you feed the birds or provide water or shelter for them? We have two birdbaths. You can see one of them behind my grandson by the wall.

Here is the link to my trip to Maui in 2012.

You click on the date on the left, and the pictures will appear in the middle.

I will be back in a week!

Friday Fav Five, Saturday 9 and Celebrations!

I have a busy few days ahead of me so I am doing Friday Fave Five and Saturday 9.

1. Thankful for the rain Thursday morning that cooled things off to the 80's.

2. Thankful to celebrate 49 years of marriage today. I was 18 years old and turned 19 two days later.  My husband was 19 and turned 20 two months later.

3. Thankful for our great lunch at the Mission Inn. Also, a visit to the antique store where I found two books for my granddaughter. She needs them for her honors Language arts class. Homer's the Odyssey and To Kill a Mockingbird. I also bought her a Jane Austen book last week and she has a couple of Shakespear books. She thinks she want to be a writer.

4. Thankful for finding the right luggage and backpack for my trip next week to Oregon.

5 Thankful to share a birthday with my granddaughter on Saturday. She will do her own thing with her friends on Saturday and our whole family will get together for lunch after church on Sunday.

Saturday 9: Diana (1957)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Legend has it that Paul Anka wrote this song about his favorite babysitter. In your younger days, did you make a little extra money as a sitter? Yes, I did.

2) Paul sings he doesn't care what "they" say about his love for an older girl. Have you ever had a romantic relationship that your friends or family didn't approve of? My parents did not want me to marry so young. But I did. Yeas later I understood why they felt the way they did.

3) Paul was once a choirboy, singing with the St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral choir in Ontario. Have you ever performed with your church choir? Yes, I sang in choir in my youth during my teen years. It was there I learned The Lord is my Shepherd. I have not been able to find the music. I sand this hymn to all my kids and grandkids when I was rocking then in my rocking chair.

4) When Paul was 15, he left Ontario to find fame and fortune in New York. He had $100 in his pocket, a gift from his uncle. Tell us about someone in your life who believed in you and encouraged you.
That would be my dad. Both my parents encouraged me in their own way. But I was daddy's girl and he and I had a special bond. He has been gone 10 years now and I still miss him. I was looking at pictures of when we all went to Maui in 2012. He and my husband shopped in Lahaina while my sister and I were snorkeling at Molokini. He bought a pretty box in one of the stores. A couple of months later, he gave it to me. I guess the fire in Lahaina has made me think of him.

5) Paul seldom gets credit for one of his most familiar compositions: the theme to The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Since Johnny retired in 1992, The Tonight Show has been hosted by Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, and Jimmy Fallon. Which of these Tonight Show hosts is your favorite?
Jimmy Fallon

6) In 1978, Paul Anka hired Las Vegas' first female bartender for his restaurant, Jubilation. Where did you most recently dine out?
The Mission Inn in Riverside California. It is famous and has been visited my several presidents. The Fox Theater is about a block away. It is the theater that Gone with the Wind had it's pre premier showing the cast and crew. Later it had its grand opening in Atlanta.

7) In 1957, when "Diana" was a hit, Wham-O began producing Frisbees. The toy was a massive success, even outselling the hula hoop. Do you enjoy tossing a Frisbee? I did when I was a kid and I also enjoyed the hula hoop.

8) Also in 1957, the book Peyton Place was made into a blockbuster film. Book lovers often say that no matter what, the movie is never as good as the book. Do you think that's true? It depends. I have seen Gone with the Wind several times on the big screen. I have read the book 7 times. The book has more information than the movie.

9) Random question: This Saturday, the treat's on Sam. Will you have buttered popcorn, caramel corn or cheese popcorn? Caramel corn!
