Friday Fave Five

Another week has just flown bye and I just had to do post before going to my sister's house for a few days. She only lives 45 minutes away, but she works, and I am busy with grands. I am linking with Susanne at

1. I am thankful for having all my grands at church this past weekend. The older two go with their mom to a different church. But my younger granddaughter was opening up worship and they came to show their support. She has been playing keyboards for the past year and she will be 13 in September.

2. Thankful that I am doing much after my fall a few weeks ago. Most of the bruising is gone. My shoulder is much better too, but still hurt with certain movement. Not to deal with allergies.

3. Thankful that my younger grands could come down and we could go swimming at my friend's pool. It has been near 100 all this week. We used to that high on occasion and now it seems the norm for So California. Thankful for air conditioning!

4. Thankful to be going to my sister's house for a few days. We are 16 months apart and have always been close. I am taking my Bible journaling to work on when she has to work. We will swim, shop and eat and catch up with life. We might go to the movies too.

5. Thankful that I am almost through with my camp study and Bible journal packs. We were going to meet on August 1, but the host has a family emergency, and we will postpone it. This will give me an extra day with my sister. Thankful that Hallmark is showing all their When Comes the Heart seasons before the new one starts.

There are always so many things to be thankful for!

I am doing better each day. My knee scrape is healing but hurts when I bend it. My left shoulder is doing better for the most part. I was already having some rotation issues and the fall made it worse when I move it a certain way. I would like to go in the spa and move it around, but I need to wait for the scab to heal. Thankful that I am healing!

Thankful for another day of air conditioning! We were near 100 and it will hit 100 by Saturday. Even though my utilities will be higher, I am glad I can use them wisely.

Thankful to see the big flag waving. Compare it to the car below and you can see how big it is.

Thankful for my Bible journaling time! I finished this page and have the graphics ready for my Bible journaling group when we meet up on August 1.

Thankful for the study I am doing called Camp Hope with Illustrated Faith. I just read a chapter written by two women I got to meet last July at Cutie Camp. Though it was a crafting event, most of the women are Christians including the founder. Paula is the founder of Fussy Cutting Cuties and she is wearing the hat. LaQuisha has been Mrs. Maryland and runs a group for women of abuse. Lisa is an expert seamstress and teaches us things about sewing. She has also spoken at retreats. Of course there is the short one, me on the left. I also the oldest, but they make me feel young at heart! They are all great creators. Paula has an app called Crafty Me on the Apple store and our Cuties group is there with lots of fun activities. Thankful to be able to combine my love of crafting with Bible journaling!

Update & Tuesday 4

Update.
Last Friday I mentioned I had fallen. I actually fell over the doggie gate when My sandal got caught and I went forward against the gate and hit the ground on my left side. I was so afraid I had broken something because I do have osteoporosis. Nothing broke, but I was really sore and skinned my knee. I am feeling better. I need to be more careful when I move. I need to pay attention to my surroundings.

By Friday I was able to Bible journal with my grands.  I was able to go to church on Sunday and lunch afterwards. On Sunday my granddaughter helped my husband shave our long hair mini doxie. She looks so small now. My son came down with my younger grands to see Minnie. My grands were all getting along. I went in the spa with my youngest and it really helped relax my arm. Later I Bible journaled with the older two. They did one of the lessons I am doing with my ladies at our August meeting.

I am working on my packs for August journaling while resting. I need to get back to exercising!

Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 where we try and challenge you to think , discover and make new friends through blogging.

1.  Did any book besides the bible have an impact on your life or beliefs?

I have read many books in my lifetime. My parents were avid readers and they always had books. I read Gone With the Wind 7 times, and my mom and I would discuss it. I have the book that was hers.  I read several James Michener books and Hawaii was one of my favorites. I read Roots. Aztec and several classics. My mom loved British history and I read several of her books. I read several books in college and some of those books have been removed for weird reasons. They didn't influence me and educated people want to learn the real truth that has happened in history. When I rededicated my life to the Lord in 2003, I switched to reading Christian themed books. Self Help like Boundaries and Changes that heal to various Historical Christian Fiction. I used to keep track of them here. I am thankful I have eyes that still work!

Another reader Mary, reminded me about the Left Behind Series. I read all of them and I want to read them again. They talk about the end times based on the Bible. AD Chronicles is great too!

2.  What books influenced you as a young person.?

I loved Little House on the Prairie and Trixie Belden. I think I read all the children's classics. Swiss Family Robinson, Black Beauty and so on. I had an advanced English class called physiological literature. I think one of the books we read was Cather in the Rye. Did it influence me, no. Maybe because of all the books I had already read like Nicolas and Alexandria or The Good Earth by Pearl S Buck. I think Frank Peretti's books; This Present Darkness, Piercing the Darkness and The Oath opened up my eyes to the spiritual Biblical realm. I don't like scary book like Stephen King. I didn't even list the books I read for 6 years of college! I prefer to read real books I can hold in my hand.

3.  Do you continue educating yourself by reading books or listening to podcasts or lectures? I do like to read and watch some YouTube videos to learn new things. I mostly study things from the Bible, especially since I teach Bible journaling. I am currently reading Kay Arthur's book called Israel My Beloved. I read it back in the 90's and it is signed by Kay Arthur. There is a picture of me at the link I posted. I am also doing Camp Living Hope with Illustrated Faith. Lots of reading, but nothing to hard. I get to decorate with camp theme graphics.

4.  Have you ever sat in a coffee shop/restaurant/cafe reading a book?  What is your preferred place to read?

I prefer to read in my bedroom. I can have soft music in the background, no tv. When I was a kid, I would take my books into restaurants.  I have read at coffee shops, but it is hard with ADD. Forgive my errors, as my ADD gets worse when I am tired and my thoughts are all over the place. Time for me to read! Just for a few minutes because it is late and I am sleepy.

Friday Fave Fiv

Today I am thankful to be able to sit and my computer and type! I fell yesterday, tripped and skinned my knee and my shoulder and knee hurt! But I could get up and move. I figured nothing was broken,

Thankful that my husband and granddaughter helped me to bed and gave me icepacks and Motrin. A few hours later I could move around. I praised Jesus all day!

Thankful that I woke up, very sore, but I could get up and get to the bathroom. Hubby made me breakfast, more ice and Motrin. I am way more sore today, but I was expecting that.

Thankful for a quiet morning, a nice view out the window of the palms and the sounds of the cooing doves that are at the birdbath.

Thankful for solar power and air conditioning! It will be 97 again and will be 100 this weekend. Summer has arrived in sunny California!

Saturday 9 Mercy

Saturday 9: Mercy (2013)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Shawn Mendes pleads with the girl he loves to be careful with his heart. Clearly he feels she's more important to him than he is to her. Do you believe that, in every relationship, someone always loves more? No, I think it varies, depending on the personalities, the love language used and the willingness for the partners to live for the other, regardless of what life throws at them.

2) He says that he'd willingly drive through the night just to be near her. Do you enjoy your time behind the wheel? Or do you consider driving necessary but not necessarily pleasurable? If I have to run errands for something I need, I don't mind. I hate the freeway and find ways to avoid it. My husband does the driving if we go together which is fine for me because I am usually crafting. I just renewed my driving license and got the Real Id. The next time I renew, I will be past 70 and will have to take the written test. I got my first license at 16 and felt so grownup. Mom always sent me on errands. I can't drive at night because of cataracts.

3) He acknowledges that she has good intentions, but she hurt him anyway. Can you think of a time when you unintentionally hurt someone's feelings? I am sure I have, probably my husband.

4) Shawn Mendes was a serious skateboarder during his high school years. Crazy Sam admits she's never even been on a skateboard. How about you? Are you more like Shawn or Sam, or are you somewhere in between?
I had a Red Derby skateboard in the mid 60's. I loved riding it around my neighborhood. I was such a tomboy. Skates, bikes, whatever I had a had, I rode with delight!

5) While in his teens, he taught himself to play guitar while watching YouTube videos. Do you spend a lot of time on YouTube? If yes, what type of videos do you watch most often? I like to listen to music,
and church Bible study. If I am sick, we watch it on YouTube. I watch crafting shows too.

6) When he's traveling or busy working, Shawn eats cold cereal for every meal -- breakfast, lunch and dinner. He says it's fast, tasty, and better than the fast food he'd grab otherwise. Will you be getting any meals "to go" this weekend? We may go to In and Out today and get a hamburger. We usually go out to eat on Sunday's after church.

7) In 2016, the year this song was popular, Game of Thrones was TV's hottest show. Were you a fan?
No, never watched it. We watched Survivor.

8) Also in 2016, a German shorthaired pointer won Best in Show at the Westminster Dog Show. Tell us about a dog who holds a special place in your heart. Our dog Minnie, along with her mom Rey and her cousin Coco.
Ret, Coco and Minnie

Currently

Linking to Jennifer at Overflowing with Thankfulness. We're talking about what we're currently loving, savoring, celebrating, remembering, and trying this month.

Loving the dog Minnie. She is a long haired mini doxie who very attached to my husbands. She is our 3rd doxie. The first tw0, Missy and Reina were attached to me. All with different personalities. All special in their own way. Minnie is the most anxious of the 3. She does not like to be out and about unless she is visiting family she knows. There is just something comforting about having a pet that loves you. I like her cuddles and her way of showing love.

Savoring my time in the spa. I finally made time to get into the spa. I love listening to music, feeling the hot water jets massage my neck and enjoying the birds in the birdbath. There is something special soaking in warm water and even stretching in it. It is a time of peace.

Celebrating the completion of my DMV renewal and Real Id. It's one of those things that requires a lot of paperwork, online applications and a visit to the DMV. It is a relief to have it all done!

Remembering the fun I had on the 4th as a child. The best time were in my grandparent's backyard with all my cousins. Now we celebrate on a much smaller level. I do enjoy decorating my home with patriotic decor and it stays up until Labor day.

I love this picture from about 5 years ago.

Trying this month: getting more organized! I have a lot of boxes I need to go through. I went through a few and did a first round of trash and keep. I to get a filebox to file paperwork verses pictures. The giveaway pile is growing!

Currently is in the mid 8-'s with a breeze. The air is on and we haven't even hit the hot months yet. It will be interesting to see to see my next electric bill now that we have solar panels. It would be much lower if we did not have our large spa.

I am busy crafting as usual. I will work on my camp devotion in the evening. I am getting craft things together for my next Bible journaling meeting in August.

I am still dealing with a cough from my cold, so I did not go to our city 4th of July parade. I am getting better!

Have a great week!

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Over There (1942)... because it's 4th of July
Great movie!!!
Unfamiliar with this rendition? Hear it here.

1) George M. Cohan wrote this song in 1917, inspired by our country's entry into WWI. It was not only popular with the young men who enlisted, it was reassuring to their families. Tell us about a time when music was a comfort to you. Music has been so important to me my whole life. Especially when my dad died. Music, songs touch the heart of my soul. I especially love Christian music. Patriotic music makes me think of my dad. He use to play this album when we were kids and we would march around the living room.

2) "Over There" was revived at the start of WWII, and President Franklin Roosevelt cited this song specifically when he awarded Cohan with the Congressional Gold Medal. What's your favorite patriotic song? God Bless America and God Bless the USA.

3) This rendition of the song is from the 1942 film, Yankee Doodle Dandy. James Cagney won an Oscar for his performance as George M. Cohan. Also nominated that year was Gary Cooper, who portrayed a different Yankee, Lou Gehrig, in Pride of the Yankees. Tell us about a movie biography you have enjoyed. The Greatest Showman,  Hidden Figures, A Beautiful Mind, Hamilton, Sound of Music,  Remember the Titans and the Ten Commandments. Big list here.

4) Cagney had a rebellious streak. His boss, studio head Jack Warner, nicknamed Cagney, "The Professional Ganister." Cagney joked that he was proud of the title. How about you? Are you rebellious? No, I try to be a peacemaker. My husband might question that at time.

5) In the clip linked above, a woman sings with Cagney. Her name was Frances Langford, nicknamed the "GI Nightingale" because during WWII she performed for the troops at bases throughout Europe, North Africa and the South Pacific. Do you have any nicknames? Most of my family calls me Susie. My mom. Dad spelled my name Suzy. I had a great aunt that called me "la Chugie" My grandma Louisa called me Susanita when I was little.

6) In 1942, when audiences were enjoying this performance of "Over There" in movie theaters, the fashion trend was for mothers and their young daughters to wear identical dresses. Moms would buy lots of fabric and patterns for the same casual day dress in both their own sizes and their little girls'. Can you sew? A little bit, mostly crafting now. In jr high, high school and college I made a lot of clothes, even with zippers.  I am on a virtual crafting cruise and stitching in the focus weather hand or machine. I made these things.

7) The Fourth of July means we're in the middle of summer. Are you careful about applying sunscreen?
Yes, especially on my face. I do let my body get some sun for the vitamin D.

8) Mosquito bites an be a major summer annoyance. Are you scratching any itches right now? No. I have not been out much.

9) Celebrity chef Rachael Ray says she considers mini-hamburgers, or "sliders," the All-American food. What will you be eating this 4th of July? Not sure yet. Hubby and I were just discussing it. I have a cold and hot chicken soup sounds good for now. But normally he BBQ's something. I do like corn and the cob. He made a really good salad the other day. Quiona, avocado, chicken, mushrooms, and broccoli.
