Saturday 9

My previous post had a lots of Halloween costume memories
and our latest family picture.

Saturday 9: Haunted (2013)

Unfamiliar with this week's featured song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Beyonce sings that she's sure if a man is haunting her thoughts, she must be haunting his. Who is on your mind this morning? It is 1am and my is on getting this post done. Washing and packing for vacation on Sunday.

2) The lyrics mention her "wicked tongue." Have you said anything recently that you wish you could take back? I am sure I have but can't think of anything at the moment.

3) Beyonce says her lucky number is 4. Her birthday is 9/4, her mom's birthday is 1/4 and her husband's birthday is 12/4. She chose 4/4 for her wedding day. Do you have a lucky number? Not really.

4) Beyonce told an interviewer that, while on the road, she loves to eat Popeye's fried chicken and the fast-food chain offered her free food for life. She admits she's been too embarrassed to take them up on it. If you could get free food for life from any restaurant, which restaurant would you choose? Probably Red Lobster so I can eat all the shrimp and lobster I want!

These questions will help us get into the Halloween spirit ....

5) Candy corn is a trick-or-treat staple. Do you like it? Yes I do!

6) In 2019, the most popular pet costume was a pumpkin outfit designed for dogs. Have you ever dressed your pet in a costume? Yes

7) According to the Guinness Book of Records, the award for highest number of jack-o-lanterns in one place went to Keene, NH, where in 2013 there were 30,581. How many carved pumpkins will be at your home on Halloween? None. We don't pass out candy. We normally go to our church Trunk N Treat. But we will be on vacation. My house is decorated with lots of fall florals, scarecrows and  ceramic/cloth pumpkins. Here is a friendly ghost!

8) In years gone by, the Irish celebrated Halloween not with pumpkins but by carving turnips, potatoes and beets. Are any of those foods in your kitchen right now? Just potatoes. I don't like beets and have not had turnips.

9) Some Elvis fans believe they have seen his ghost hovering in the trees over Graceland. Have you ever seen a ghost? I don't believe in ghost.

1. I am thankful for this computer.
It allows me to connect to others through social media and email.
It lets me enjoy my creative outlets along with Bible journaling
It lets order things online, any better prices while I save gas.
It let me connect to you!

2. My family, kids and grands.
I love when we can all get together. It hard to do with different schedules.
Our next family picture will be taken at Disneyland in December!

3. My family-siblings.
I love how we stay connected. We use our cell phones to share info about our kids.
We plan events and share news. Family wedding in December!
We don't all agree on the same things, but our love holds us together

5. Thankful that my husband cooks!
He made a great turkey albondiga soup. I like it the traditional way, with hamburger,
but our daughter does not eat beef, so she bought turkey. It was full of veggies. I need to
get more protein in my diet, so I added lentils to my soup.

Tuesday 4

1. Do you give out candy on Halloween to neighborhood kids? Did you ever.. have you always?
We have not passed out candy in 30 years. We have participated at our church's  Harvest/Trunk N Treat events where candy is passed out. For years we have either had a booth or decorated a trunk for our church. I will miss it this year. We usually go all out. They had a drive through event for 202 and 2021. This year we will be on vacation with our son's family.  Here is one of our set ups from a few years ago.

2. We must dress up as this Halloween. Yes, you have to!  What will your costume be this year? I have a hippie costume I like. I might pack it and take it with me. There is a huge mall that we will probably takes the grands to for treating. We will be in Las Vegas and will probably stay off the streets that night.

3. Have you ever carved pumpkins?  Have you visited the gorgeous Hudson Valley in New York state?
Yes, we have carved many pumpkins we happy faces. I have only been to New York city before leaving on a New England cruise. I would love to go back again. The trees were just starting to change while we were there. Maine had the most trees that were changing. Not like the picture below. I would love to hike here!

4. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving takes place in Sleepy Hollow a town known today as Tarrytown, NY. a lovely town in the Hudson Valley not far from the Catskill Mountains, site of Rip Van Winkle. The Hudson Valley is considered one of the most beautiful places in America. The Hudson separates NY from New Jersey. Do you know the Legend of Sleepy Hollow? How about Rip Van Winkle? Do you believe either could be based on true stories as some believe?  Why/ why not? I do remember hearing the stories at school and watching on tv.

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Things (1962)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Bobby Darin is sitting beside his window, looking out onto a crowded avenue. What's the view outside your nearest window? It is dark now, but Saturday morning it would be the palm trees and birdbath in my backyard. This is from the bedroom window. I open the room darkening drapes each morning. Here is a picture from June.

2) He likes to remember the romantic things he and his girl used to do, like walking in the park. When did you most recently go for a leisurely stroll? Did you have a destination in mind, or were you just enjoying the walk for its own sake? My husband and I went on a picnic a couple of weeks ago at a park in the next city. We took our dog with us. We walked around the lake.

3) He notes a couple holding hands. Are you comfortable displaying affection in public? Just hand holding and a quick kiss.

4) When Bobby recorded this song, he was married to screen sweetheart Sandra Dee. Today she is best known as the inspiration for the song, "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee." Can you name another song from Grease? Hopelessly Devoted to you. You're the One that I want.

5) Bobby loved gadgets. He was enthusiastic about his suitcase telephone, which was one of the first mobile phones. Are you an early adapter, or do you wait for new technology to be around awhile and not so new before you try it? I usually wait a bit because of the expense. I started working on computers in 1987. I got my first computer around 1992.

6) He was a chess fanatic and always kept a magnetic chess board in his briefcase, just in case he found someone who was willing to play him. Are you a good chess player? Nope, never played.

7) He very much wanted to play Tony in West Side Story, but he didn't the part because the producers didn't think he looked like a romantic leading man. What actor or actress makes your heart skip a beat?
George Clooney?

8) In 1962, when this song was popular, Jack Nicklaus launched his successful golf career. Do you enjoy playing golf, or watching it on TV?  I have played miniature golf with the grands.

9) Random question: Which would we find in your kitchen right now -- cookies or ice cream? Ice cream. We always have it for the grands.

Tuesday 4 - Four Seasons

Let's talk about the seasons. Summer has just passed, and we have begun our journey into autumn.

1. How would you describe each of the four seasons? Hit and miss! I live in So California. We can still have 90-degree days which is expected on Tuesday and maybe Wednesday. This past weekend it was cooler, and it rained on Saturday. The nights are cooler too. Cooler is in the 50's. Fall is just starting here. I live in the city, so we don't get to see too many fall trees here. Fall can last through December. Our coldest months are January and February. Our cold is the 50's during the day. We get more rain these months if we are lucky. We don't get snow in my country. I have to drive about an hour to hour and half to get the local mountains to play in the snow. Spring goes by quickly, lasting a couple of months. Then it is a long hot summer, from June through October.

2.  How do you generally feel during each season? Do you suffer allergy, feel tired, sad, happy, energized? What does each season do for you? Decorating my house for the season helps. Summer is way too long. Our air conditioning bill is crazy, and it is hard to be outside with the heat and mosquitos.  I love fall, mostly because of the decorations and the cooler nights. Winter can be cold for us, but I like wearing warmer clothes and drinking warm drinks. I cook more in the cooler months. I love to make the soups and use the oven. I like watching new growth in the spring. My winter decor comes down and the house returns to normal. I like the butterflies and birds flying around. Then those nasty mosquitos come back!

3.  If there is to be only one season for you to live in, which one would it be and why? I think it would be fall. I like the colors and clothing. Not to cold or hot.

4. What color(s) do you associated with summer, winter, autumn and spring?  Example: maybe summer is green, winter is white..etc.  No white for us in winter. Green in Spring. Yellow, orange, red in the fall in certain areas.  Summer has a lot of green if you can afford to water. We are in a drought and a lot of people don't water and it does not look nice, so brown too.

Seasons is more than weather. It is the activities that happen during each of the seasons that counts.

This past weekend I went to family bridal shower brunch for Erin.  It was so nice to get together. My youngest sister's, youngest son is getting married in December in San Diego.
My sis in law Cindy, me, my sis Ann and my sis Terry.
I am the matriarch of our family!

After the shower, I made the 45 minutes' drive in the rain to home. I picked up my husband we left to younger grands annual fall fundraiser. The theme was from the movie Encanto and my granddaughter played Maribel. We are so proud of her. After taking pictures and buying the snacks and cups, the show started. My granddaughter had a solo. Then my grandson joined his sister, and they sang "don't Talk about Bruno. We were so proud of them!! Then the movie started. Some scenes brought tears to my eyes. So much to relate to when you really here what the characters are sharing. It is a great family movie!

On my previous post I share fall picture and the set up for the Festival of Tabernacles our Spanish Ministry set up. After church this Sunday, I took my grands to see the tents up close. I explained the Festival of Tabernacles, or Booths that is celebrated in the autumn. I explained that it was a weeklong celebration to remember how God took care of the people in the desert before going into the promise land. The Jewish people celebrate it yearly along with the two other fall events, the festival of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement. I showed them how each tent stood for one of the 12 tribes of Israel. I bible journal with my grands, so I thought this would be a good visual for them. I explained how each tribe had specific task to do and the tribe of Levi were in charge of the temple. I also took a video to share with the older two grands who were sick. When we can all get together, I plan to make little tents and have them place them in their Bible to represent each tribe. as mentioned in numbers Ch. 2 in the Old Testament.

      Holding a shofar or trumpet.
