Tuesday 4

Summertime and the Living is Easy?

Well, we hope it's easy anyway.

Welcome back to Toni's Tuesday 4!   Always good to have you here. Let's concentrate on the little bit of summer that is left, shall we?  We need to enjoy every season to the fullest I believe. what say you? Not much more of summer left so we better enjoy it while it lasts.

1. What do you like to do in the summer? Our summers can get hot, so staying cool is important. Outings are best in the morning. Hard to enjoy the outdoors with the killer mosquitoes arrived with Covid. I do love going to the beach, but it takes time to
get there. We got to have the grands over a lot this summer. We Bible journaled and camped indoors and even had smores. We did make it to our neighbor's pool. I went on two visits to Texas this year. I am going to Lake Tahoe on the 11th of Sept. Our weather will be hot until mid-October.  A heatwave in arriving on Wednesday and we will be near 108!!!!

2. What is your favorite summertime food and beverage? We eat more salads. I drink ice water with fruit throughout the day.

3. How do you beat the heat? Staying inside with the air. Not happy about our AC bill. I have visited Hobby Lobby a few times walking around in the cool air and listening to music.

4. What do you really like about the summer season? I love all my seasonal series, but they are on break. If give me more time to be with the grands, craft and read. This Saturday my brother and his wife are hosting a Labor Day get together at their house. They bought it from my parents and there are a lot of sweet memories there. It will be great having all the families together. When my dad passed it 2013, there were only 5 great grands. Now there are 17!

Saturday 9

She's in Love with the Boy (1991)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song tells the story of Katie and Tommy. She waited for him to pull up in his beat-up Chevy truck. Tell us about your wheels. 2017 Kia Sorrento, 7 passenger for all the grands!

2) Katie and Tommy stay out un
til 12:30 AM. What time did you go to bed last night? My average time to turn the lights off is midnight.

3) The lyrics tell us, "What's meant to be will always find a way." Do you agree? When you are young, you want to do everything your way. At some point you realize how little control you have in life. I decided I wanted to follow the Word of God. I may not understand everything, but I choose to believe in God and trust in Him. God has a plan, and I can choose to follow that plan. My way is based on the Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ. His way will be the way and much as I let go and let God!

Berean Study Bible
A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9

4) This was the first big hit for Trisha Yearwood. While she's found her greatest success in music, she's also written top-selling cookbooks. Are you a better singer or cook? I like singing more than cooking. I am a better at cooking than singing.

5) Trisha
also appeared in six episodes of the TV drama, JAG. She played a medical examiner and forensic pathologist, which means her character had a medical degree and (at least) one year of additional training. That's (at least) five extra years of higher education. Do you enjoy taking classes? Yes, I do. I was one of the few people that liked school. I did not like getting up early or trying to figure out what to wear. I did like going to classes and learning. I also liked my electives like sewing and crafts. I really enjoyed competitive athletics. I teach Bible journaling. I study the verses and then gather graphics to go along of the theme. I do a little teaching prior to the journaling. Right now I am working on a personal study on the book of Daniel.

6) In real life, Trisha earned a degree in Business Administration before going into music. She uses what she learned in school, keeping a close eye on her finances and those of her superstar husband, Garth Brooks. She says she likes and trusts the people hired to their money, "but I check on them." Do you keep a careful eye on where your money goes? I do more now than before. When I was working, I didn't as much. But now that I am on a fixed income, I am more selective. I always pay my bills the first of the month. I like to go shopping and putting things I like in my basket. But then I will stick to my list/budget and get what I need.

7) In 1991, when this song was popular, Dances with Wolves was a hit in the theaters. Have you seen it? Yes, a few times. My husband and son love that movie. The music is good too! I just get sad when I see things that are hard to watch. I could only see the Titanic once. It was just too sad to see again.

8) Also in 1991, Seinfeld was a big deal on the small screen. It's still popular in syndication on cable channels and on streaming services. Do you more often watch broadcast TV or streaming/on-demand channels? I have my favorite shows on the regular channels that I watch when they are running. Most things are on a summer break now. I like to see the Golden Girls on the Hallmark Channel. I never really got into Seinfeld. We do have the Disney+ channel.

9) Random question: Have you ever gone a day without laughing? Probably when my parents were dying. Also when I lost 3 babies by miscarriage. I did go through times of depression so probably some days then. I am pretty happy now. Laughter is good medicine!

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. Proverbs 17:22.

I got together with a few friends to discuss, or Lake Tahoe get away in a couple of weeks. We tried taking several pictures and we were laughing so much because of how silly we must have looked trying to arrange ourselves so we could all be in the picture. This is one off the pictures.

This made me really laugh....

Tuesday 4

The days just fly by!
I have my Lifegroup women's study Tuesday morning
and the Book of John Bible study in the evening.

Let's share our home secrets with one another.   Maybe you have some ideas other ladies would love to hear about.

1.   What household tool or appliance do you rely on a lot? The microwave oven and vacuum cleaner.

2.   Which laundry detergent, fabric softener, and dish detergent work best for you? The ones without fragrance and dye. I can use essential oils. I add lavender or lemon to the dryer balls.

3.   What soap do you like to use?  Where do you have soap in your home... bathroom, kitchen, shower?
We have a liquid soap/ hand lotion dispenser in the kitchen, and both bathrooms. I like to use Young Living Thieves foaming soap. I like Doctor Bonner's soaps in the shower. I take the travel size when I travel.

4.   What is the secret to a clean home in your opinion? Having a husband that helps a lot because he is a bit OCD!

Saturday 9

Jack and Diane (1982)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The video for this song features lots of snapshots. Do you have many physical photo albums? Or do you store your pictures digitally? I have about 20 of them, from our wedding until our third child was about 4 or 5. The rest are in boxes. I got a digital camera back in 2006 and have lots of SD cards. I have printed out some of the ones I really like over the years.

2) This song tells the story of "two American kids growing up in the heartland." Young Jack dreams of being a football star. When you were in high school, did you fantasize about stardom? If yes, what were you going to be famous for? No, just wanted to get through college.

3) Diane wears Bobbie Brooks slacks (at least briefly). Bobbie Brooks is a popular brand at Walmart. If you had a $50 gift card for Walmart, would you be more likely to use it toward groceries, clothes, household items, or electronics? Probably ink for my printer.

4) They go to the Tasty Freeze. If you were to run out for fast food right now, where would you go? It is way too late to eat anything as I type this. Can't go anywhere because I left my purse in my friend's car.  I hope she drops it off for me. We had a lady's movie night out at church which was fun. But after I got home, I realized I left my purse. I sure hope my friend sees it and drops it off.

5) When John Mellencamp made this record, he was known professionally as "John Cougar," a stage name suggested by his manager. He has said that adopting a stage name is something he regrets. Looking over your life, if you could take a "do over," what one thing would you like to do differently? Not rush to get married so young. I would have lived on campus during college to get more help from the different resources. Lots of other things. But we can't go back so we must move forward.

6) Even though he suffered a heart attack, John Mellencamp continues to smoke, admitting that nicotine is something he simply can't kick. Do you have a habit you wish you could break? Staying up way too late.

7) John's daughter Teddi was one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She went on to join the cast of Big Brother. Do you watch any reality shows? Yes, Survivor, Dances with the Stars, American Idol and America's Got Talent. I have been to a few tapings of American Idol and America's Got Talent.

8) In 1982, when this song was popular, William Windsor was born. He's better known by his job title. Without looking it up, do you know who he is? The future king of England after his dad, and
grandmother the queen.

9) Random question: What do you do when you can't sleep? Depends. I have been trying to read or play Word with Friends on my cellphone which is in my purse in my friend's car!

Update, 7am. She dropped it off before her hike!

Tuesday 4

Let's talk about restaurants and eating out, okay?

1 Do you like eating out with friends or would you rather have them over for a meal?  I would rather go out. My home is small, and my dog does not like company. We normally go out 1-2 times a week. Last week I went out Sunday the 7th, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. It was my birthday and anniversary week. Sunday, we went out prior to my granddaughters first piano/singing performance.

2. Let's go out to eat. You pick.  Where are we going? I like many types of food. the nutritionist said I need to eat fish more often. I would like to eat some salmon. I had the best salmon while on a cruise to Alaska. I can't get to Alaska.

3. What are you going to order tonight? Herb crusted Sockeye salmon, Au Gratin potatoes, a fresh salad and a veggie.

4.  Are you going to have dessert?  What will it be? Lemon cheesecake.

Saturday 9 and Beach Birthday

I had a wonderful day at the beach for my birthday. We took egg sandwiches, chips and fruit for lunch. I did some watercolor in my Bible and worked on a craft while enjoying the warmth of the sun, the cool breeze and the sights and sounds of the people enjoying the beach. I did not do a good job with the suntan lotion, and I am burnt! I am covered with coconut oil with lavender oil. At least I smell good!
My daughter took her birthday girl to the Orange County Fair with a couple of her friends.

3 years away from 70!

Hubby took this of me water coloring in my Bible.

Dinner at the Crab Cooker in Newport Beach (Orange County)
This is one of the places we came to when we were first dating 50 years ago!

This Oreo cheesecake was the best. Hubby and I both enjoyed it!

W.O.L.D. (1973)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song tells the story of a man who has made a career in radio.  How many professions have you worked in? 4. The longest was with the US Postal Service - 36 years.

2) He describes himself as "45 going on 15." This morning, do you feel older or younger than your years? I am writing this Friday night. Happy for my birthday at the beach. I think I will be hurting in the morning because I am sunburned. I felt like a kid at the beach while collecting shells.

3) He estimates that he's traveled thousands of miles, from town to city, as disc jockey at various stations. Have you ever relocated for a job? No

4) This song is written as though he's reached out to an ex. Is there someone from your past who is on your mind this morning? My husband and I were talking about my old boyfriend from Jr High. My husband met him at our church camp after I graduated.

5) Tell us about a radio personality you grew up listening to. Huggie Boy?

6) This week's featured artist, Harry Chapin, was an Oscar nominee. Before he became a musician, he wrote and directed a documentary about boxing called Legendary Champions. When you sit down to watch a movie, would you prefer action, comedy, drama, fantasy, horror, mystery, romance, thriller or documentary? There is a new movie with Diane Keaton that seems funny. I would like to see that. Hubby wants to see the Elvis movie so we will probably see both.

7) Today Harry Chapin is fondly remembered for his philanthropy. He filled his calendar with benefit concerts that supported local food banks all around the country. How would you like to be remembered?
As a woman that loved the Lord. A good mom, loving grandmother who taught Bible journaling, and a good friend.

8) In 1973, when this song was popular, one of the top-selling toys was a Curious George book packaged with a plush Curious George. Can you recall a favorite book from your childhood? I liked the Little House on the Prairie series. Little Women and Trixie Belden.

9) Random question: Here's $100. What will you spend it on? (A postage stamp. Original answer because I thought it was $1.00! I would put it away for mt girls get away next month.

Tuesday 4 Books/Reading

1.  What book brought out your emotions and why? My number one answer will always be the Bible for many reasons. It has been the number one book throughout my lifetime.

The B-I-B-L-E,
Yes that’s the book for me;
I stand alone on the Word of God,
The B-I-B-L-E.

There are also many other books I have read that have brought out my emotions for different ways. My childhood favorites were Charolette's Web, The Little House in the Prairie series, Little Women and Trixie Belden mysteries. Gone with the Wind has been my favorite since my teens. I think because my mom took me to see it and let me read her book which I have to this day. I got to experience, history, and romance while reading it. I have read it 7 times!

2.  How has reading changed your life both for good and for bad? What you get out of it? I spent hours reading, in the car, while eating, in the bath, and in bed. Nothing wrong with reading unless it takes away from things that have to be done like cleaning your room or homework. It did not take away from my playing time. I loved to be outside when I was young. I found the joy of reading in 4th grade.

Before I recommitted my life to God, I went through a period of reading historical fiction and romance. One of those was the Clan of the Cave Bear and a couple of more. They were so interesting but had some sex things in it that was a bit much!

3.   What character(s) do you love, and which do you hate and why? I can't say that I hate any specific character. Almost every book has the bad guy/girl. I think the scariest book I read was called The Oath by Frank Peretti. It was about the spiritual forces of good and evil. I also read This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness by Peretti.

4.  What book or books do you think everyone should read once in their lifetime? Well, the Bible of course! I think people should read books that interest them.  Once I started back to church, I mainly read Christian historical books. Here is a sample of the books I read on a webpage I made years ago.

For Today

For Today...

Outside my window... Sunny, breezy, 83, slight humidity at 10:15am

I am thinking... Of all the things I want to do today.

I am thankful for... being retired.

I am remembering... My parents. I think of them often.

On my mind...Seeing someone about my osteoporosis.

I am pondering these words...

From the learning rooms... Bible book of Daniel study starts today.

From the kitchen... Lots of leftovers from the weekend!

I am wearing...still in my pajamas.

I am creating... things for my August Bible journaling group. Theme is water.

I am going...get out of bed when I am through with this. Grands want to go Walmart.

I am reading...the Bible, book of Daniel

I am hoping...to get my reading done, some Bible journaling and working on my camp notebook.

I am hearing...the dogs barking, the grands playing, the air conditioning going on.

Around the house...dust, Oh I need to add that to the list.

One of my favorite things...Bible journaling

A few plans for the rest of the week...Last week grands are off school. Things with them. Swim party on Friday with my lifegroup.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing... Sunday Summer Family evening event at church.
This was western themed. I am wearing a jean skirt. My granddaughter wore my hat. It was a nice evening of fellowship, square dancing, line dancing, petting zoo, games and pies.
