Saturday 9

Saturday 9: As Time Goes By (1958)   Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) This song begins with, "You must remember this." Do you often write things down to help you remember? I try to write them in a mini calendar and put them on my iPhone calendar.

2) The lyrics tell us that moonlight and love songs are never out of date. Tell us about something else that seems timeless. The Word of God.

3) Originally written in 1931, "As Time Goes By" is best known as the love theme from the 1942 film, Casablanca. According to the American Film Institute, there's only one song from a movie soundtrack that's more expressly identified with the film: "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz. What song reminds you of your favorite movie? Tara's Theme from Gone with the Wind. Theme song from Star Wars Orchestra Version This is the ring tone I have for my so Andrew. I saw the movie with my hubby when it first came out in 1977.  I took my son Andrew to see Empire when he was almost 3 and he loved it. I was pregnant with my son Daniel and he was jumping around to the loud sounds from the movie. We saw all the movies and he got all the toys when he was a kid because mom would play with him. Star Wars is our favorite movie together and we love Star Tours at Dinseyland.  He buys and sells Star Wars toys and makes a lot of money too. I saw George Lucas at Disneyland in 2015 on my 60th birthday.

4) This version is from The George Sanders Touch, an LP recorded by an Oscar-winning character actor. There is scant evidence that it sold well. Tell us about something you thought was a good idea at the time, but looking back, would have done differently. Buying this house. It had the basic of what we needed, but I compromised on the kitchen cabinets and lighting. We rushed into buying. We looked at the features that would get us through our future, like being near the market and Health clinic. I do miss my old neighborhood that was in the hills, but further away from the things need as we are aging.

5) This album was really something of a consolation prize for George. He worked with a vocal coach, hoping to win the romantic lead in the film version of South Pacific, but alas, the role went to a younger man. He had fun making this record instead. Have you recently taken lemons and made lemonade? We have done some things to this home to make it homier. I gave up my craft room so that my grandson would have a room when he is over. The grand boys have one room and the grand girls have the other. They are here as I speak so it works out well. We have a larger backyard at this house, and we added a spa which I enjoy. Overall, we are comfortable.

6) He usually played suave but unsympathetic characters. That's why he gave his autobiography the self-aware title, Memoirs of a Professional Cad. What would you call your life story? Becoming Real.

7) The night he won his Oscar, George Sanders accepted the statuette, bowed deeply and then, safely behind the curtain and away from cameras, surprised onlookers by crying. Have you ever cried tears of joy? Yes, when I had my babies and when my grandkids were born. Other times too, but this is what came to my mind first.

8) George Sanders wed perennial talk show guest and occasional actress Zsa Zsa Gabor in 1949. Sixteen years after their divorce, he married Zsa Zsa's less famous but also glamorous sister, Magda. After a month, George and Magda thought better of it and had the union annulled. Sam thinks this is one of the oddest romantic tales she's ever stumbled upon while researching Saturday 9. Have you ever known anyone who divorced one sibling and then married another? (Hallmark movies don't count.)
Not that I can think of.

9) Random question: You're in a line of 25 people at the post office. How many of those other 24 are more patient at waiting than you are? I am usually pretty patient. I try go when it is not too busy. Most people are on their phones now passing the time away. I worked for the postal service at one of the busiest offices and rarely saw lines that long except for the night before taxes were due. They get extra window clerks during the holiday season. But it really depends on what kind of service one needs.

Tuesday 4

Blast from the Past

Welcome back to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4..  We are glad to have you here!

1.   If you had one million dollars to spend only on yourself, what would you spend it on? A new home with lots of rooms for my family to enjoy along with a pool. I love having my family together. I could have my friends over too!

2.   You can do it again. What decade are you going back to and why?  Probably the 60's when Iwas a kid. I was a tomboy and loved playing outside. There were many weekends with my cousins and grandparents. It was a time of opportunity and growth. Lots of good music. School and church were fun to go to, and something we all did. It was going to the moon and young love.

The next would be the 80's when we had our children.

3.   What's the last song that got stuck in your head? Alternatively, what's your current favorite song? I mentioned some in the previous post. I mentioned Shout to the Lord from Hillsong. I also like the version that was sung at the Women of Faith Conference in Anaheim Ca in the 90's. They sung it in English and Spanish. I loved hearing the arena of women singing.  I also love Testify to Love by Avalon. It was played on the Show Touched by an Angel years ago and was sung by Wynonna Judd.  Then the group Avalon played it on their album by the same name. I have spent over and hour here on You Tube now listening to worship music. Love it. Another song Love you So Much by Hillsong. I have the Cd called Simply Worship that has that song and so many I love. I also love hymns. I learned a lot in the Methodist church I went to for the first 18 years of my life. I am going to make a list of songs I want to hear for my last days. Hearing is the last sense to go and I am sure is the first sense in heaven!

3.   What's the last song that got stuck in your head? Alternatively, what's your current favorite song? My son and I were just talking about rides I liked that are no longer as Disneyland. when I was a kid but have been removed. Here are three of them.

I enjoyed Adventures through Inner Space.
It was popular for the teenagers too. The kissing ride.
It eventually became Star Tours!

I really liked my cassette recorder I had in the 70's. I took anatomy and physiology in High school and needed to pass with a B or higher as an entrance requirement to the University I was accepted to. I would read the main things into the recorder. I would play it back before bed and in the morning when I got ready. It really helped me memorize everything. At least it didn't smell like the fetal pig I had to dissect!

My clock radio from the 70's

My radio from the 60's.
This helped me settle down at night.

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Dancing in the Moonlight (1972)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics tell us the moon is big and bright. Do you often take the time to watch the sun set or look at the moon? Yes, I like to take pictures of the full moon and sunsets. I got to see the Northern Lights while on a cruise in Alaska back in 2006. My camera was not strong enough to get a picture. The image will stay in my head forever, I hope. It was amazing!

Over the Pacific, flying to Calif, from Hawaii, 2012

2) The lead singer of King Harvest, Dave "Doc" Robinson, tells us that everyone feels "warm and right." How would you describe your mood as you answer these 9 questions? Emotionally and spiritually, I feel at peace. Physically, is a bit different. I need to increase my protein intake and do resistance exercises. I got some exercise bands at Kaiser clinic the other day. I plan to go back to the gym. The doctor thinks that is a good idea and to take health precautions. So I plan to wear a mask which is no problem for me.

3) He sings that his friends don't bark or bite. What about you? Is your bark worse than your bite? On occasion my bark speaks up. I do have a mama bear in me, or should I say Mema bear!

4) He believes you be unhappy when you dance. Do you agree? Not sure about this question, but dancing makes me happy!

5) King Harvest was not the only name the band used. They once performed as E. Rodney Jones and the Prairie Dogs. If you ever played in a band, tell us what it was called. If you haven't, make up a band name. Never in a band. I did sing in the choir at church and school.

6) Even though this was a major hit, King Harvest's record label, Perception, went bankrupt in 1974. This decade has been hard on many businesses -- especially restaurants -- and many closed their doors due to covid. Tell us about a shop or restaurant that closed recently, and that you miss. Can't think of any.

7) This very upbeat song came from pain. While vacationing in St. Croix, songwriter Sherman Kelly was the victim of vicious gang attack and was left for dead. He wrote this song during his long recuperation and it helped him envision joy. Is there a song that reliably lifts your mood? (Yes, you can say this song. Mr. Kelly is right, it IS joyful!) Lots of songs.  Oh Happy Day from the movie Sister Act(Heard it in the 60's), Shout t to the Lord by Hillsong, Happy by Ferrell, Celebrate by Kool and the Kang and many more!

8) In 1972, when this song topped the charts, Wrangler jeans were America's best-selling blue jeans. Do you often wear denim? I wear pull up soft denim jeggings now. I have several pair of  denim shorts and capris.

9) Random question: Which of these is completely, 100% UNTRUE of you: Greedy, lazy, or jealous?
I have been all of those at some point in time. I would say lazy is probably number 1!

Tuesday 4 and Easter

Cooking

1. When did you learn to cook? My mom started teaching me when I was in 6th grade. One of the things she taught me was how to make sopa. You can use any macaroni product. You sauté the macaroni in a pan with soil and chopped onions. When the onion is clear, you add a can of tomato sauce and stir along with 2-3 cups of hot water. You add salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste and continue to cook until the pasta is tender. You can eat it as a soup or let the water evaporate until it is mostly pasta. If it is soupy, I will add lemon juice and hot sauce. If most of the juice has evaporated, I will add grated cheese and hot pepper sauce. I like the kind that has vinegar it. We call it Mexican macaroni and cheese. She taught me and my sisters was how to cook tacos using our grandma's recipes using hamburger meat and potatoes. I remember her teaching me how to cook a pot roast and something called a guiso. You can find the recipes here. I also took cooking in Jr. High and learned many interesting things.

2.  How often in the week do you cook? Order in? Go out? I cook one to two times a week. Hubby does most of the cooking. We usually go out to lunch after church on Sundays.

3.  Which foods are absolutely necessary at a cookout? Hamburgers and hot dogs! Hubby made BBQ lamb for Easter.

4.  Do you have a meal you are especially good at making? or that people often request for you to make? That would be my tacos.

We had a very nice Easter weekend. On Friday we went to Good Friday service and then we helped out at the Easter Light drive through.  Saturday I put Easter baskets together and worked on my Bible journaling. Easter Sunday was great! The kids had fun hunting for eggs and getting their Easter goodies from us. We sang Happy Birthday to Elijah. Lots of candy and chocolate cake. Jesus is the reason for all seasons!

Take after the confetti egg fun.

Saturday 9 Easter Version

Happy Birthday to my beautiful daughter Renee and my grandson Elijah, both celebrating a birthday on April 16. We will be celebrating at our Easter gathering.

Saturday 9: This Is the Way the Bunny Hops Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) Why do you suppose there are so many songs about Santa Claus, yet very few about the Easter Bunny? Easter is about Jesus and so is Christmas. There are lot of songs about Jesus!

2) This song was written by The Kiboomers, two early education teachers who are passionate about the power of music to help kids learn. Tell us about a teacher who had an impact on your life. I had a lot of great teachers both at school and Sunday School. My greatest teacher is Jesus.
Jesus himself used the term when he said, “You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am” (John 13:13). I did have some special teachers all through school. I did a whole page at my Website. I also added at the links bar above.

3) Legend has it that the Easter Bunny was introduced to America in the 1700s by German immigrants.
These children waited for a magic creature who left colored eggs. Today's kids dye Easter eggs themselves. When did you most recently color eggs? We will do it today and stencil a cross on it.

4) The Easter Bunny is usually shown carrying a wicker basket filled with eggs, toys and candy.
Is there any wicker in the room you're in right now? Yes there is. On has blankets and the other has dog toys.

5) While marshmallow Peeps are manufactured all year around, they are most popular at Easter. Do you prefer the chicks or the bunnies? I don't eat them, but we got some for the grandkids. They have a lot of new flavors.

6) A little time in the microwave can do ugly things to a Peep. Have you ever nuked a Peep? Never even thought of it.

7) Would you prefer a hollow or a solid chocolate bunny? I would like caramel in it.

8) A traditional American Easter dinner usually includes glazed ham or roast lamb. Which would you rather have as your main course? We are having lamb. My husband will roast it on the bbq.

9) Easter is considered the season of rebirth. What makes you feel refreshed or rejuvenated?
The Word of God refreshes me spiritually. My grandkids make me feel young. A nice hot shower makes my body and hair fresh and clean.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
1 Peter 1:3

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3:5

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:17

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
John 3:3

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:7

Thankful Thursday, Easter Blessings

There is so much to be thankful for everyday! Yes there are things that we all have to deal with. Some of us have more than others. Focusing on the things we have instead of what we don't have. I have the most important things. A relationship with Jesus Christ, my loving family and friends. The thing that sustains me is my faith in God and spending time in the Bible.

Thankful for the time I have with Bible journaling. In my previous entry I shared a page I did on Palm Sunday, and my Bible journaling group. I am learning so much more as I prepare my lessons. I am spending a lot of time working on my Lent study too that I also mentioned in my previous post.

I am thankful for good insurance and my doctor. She really listened to my concerns and we discussed things like getting enough protein, exercise and sleep.

Thankful for a beautiful day, sunny, in the 70's.

Thankful for my friend Linda that drives me to events since I can't drive at night. She is taking me to Good Friday service. Then dropping me off at our big church to help at the Drive through evening lights show for the family. Candy, gifts and the Good News will be passed out. I am going to be passing out candy.

Thankful for beautiful music that puts my focus on Jesus. A communion song is here.

Thankful for this week.

Family Easter Memories are here.
I need to update the last few years.

Tuesday 4

Welcome to Tuesday 4 kept up in Toni Taddeo's memory.

Easter and Passover are coming quickly. Both are about life, so let's talk about life this week.

1. Is your life different this year? If so, how and what has changed? It is good to be back with people. Bak to church, back with small groups, back to Bible study. I will be doing more traveling this year. I do have a health issue that is bothering me. I see my doctor this week.

2.  Are you satisfied with your spiritual life or could it be better? What do/will you do to make it better?
My spiritual life has been great. It also did well during the past two years. The lock down allowed me to spend even more time in the Bible and my studies. This is my Lent study called Atonement.

One day there is a reading from the Old Testament, the next day from the New Testament. I got the physical set which sold out. There is a digital set. The physical set included a small vial of Frankincense and Myrrh that I diffuse in the diffuser I got on Amazon. When I study, I like quiet. When I am working on my Bible journaling, I like music. I did a page on Palm Sunday. I got the digital graphics on Etsy from a shop called Beautiful Good News.

3.  What are you busy with today? Will this matter in 1 year? 3 years? 5 years? I am working on my lent study. I am also Bible journaling. Anytime in the Word is good for all time. The only thing you take when you leave this world is the Word of God.

4.  Do you serve others in life?  How do you do that? Being there for my family is one way. Teaching my grandkids the Word through Bible journaling is another. I am also leading Bible journaling in my Lifegroup. I like to make little care bags and pass it out to the homeless. We also participate in Operation Christmas Child/Shoeboxes, Christmas gift for a foster child, Back to school backpacks for the Y and our local support our local Pregnancy counseling center and Crystal Roses that provides comfort bags for chemo appointments. Just being kind can go a long way.
