Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Cruella de Vil (1961)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In the original animated 101 Dalmations, this song is written by Roger, who gets his best ideas at the piano. Where do you feel most creative? At my desk or on my bed.

2) His piano is tucked away in a crowded attic. Does your home have an attic? If so, what do you keep up there? No attic, but we do have a black baby grand piano that we inherited from my mother in law.

3) The inspiration for this song is his wife's old school chum, the very wealthy and very mean Cruella de Vil. Have you ever found you couldn't stand one of your spouse's or lover's friends? I really disliked my ex brother -in- law for a long time. He was one of my husband's best friends. He left my sister after 20 years of marriage. She has made peace with him. I am more sad than mad now.

4) Make no mistake, Cruella is a very bad lady. The American Film Institute named her #38 on their 100 Greatest Villains list. Tell us another nasty movie character who comes to mind. The evil witch from The Wizard of Oz use to scare me!

5) Cruella wanted to skin sweet little Dalmation puppies and make a coat. (We told you she was bad.) As winter wears on, could you use a new coat (though not one made from puppy fur!)? I have lots of coats. We don't have a lot of days that we need them. My favorite coat is one is a quilted one my mom gave me. This picture is from 2006.  I found the picture at my website.

6) This song
was written by Mel Leven, who did both words and music. Do you think you'd be more successful as a lyricist (words) or composer (music)? Probably a lyricist.

7) 1961 was a big year for Disney. In addition to this animated movie, they had a hit with The Parent Trap, about twins who are reunited at summer camp. Approx. 1 in every 250 births results in twins. Are there any twins in your family? No twins in my family. They did check me early when I was pregnant with my first son since I was taking fertility pills.

8) Also in 1961, IBM introduced the Selectric typewriter. Amazon and Walmart both still sell typewriters. Do you own one? Yes I have a We Are Memories Typewriter. Lots of crafters use them for typing on cards when journaling.

9) Random question: When is the last time you took a nap? I dozed a bit on the couch on Thursday.

Tuesday 4

Pondering Odds & Ends
Welcome to Toni Taddeo's Tuesday 4 kept up in her memory.
We offer 4 questions for you to ponder and consider each week.   Hopefully they make you stop and think and even get to know yourself and other Bloggers a bit better. Here we go discussing some personal thoughts this week....

1. Do you have a favorite gemstone? Why is it a favorite. They are all pretty. My favorite is the diamond because of the way it sparkles. My husband gave me a promise ring with a spec of a diamond and my mom said if I got engaged, to get at least a half carat. That is what I got. My mom gifted me with a beautiful multi mini diamond band that I love. I also inherited one of her diamond rings.

2. Do you know and understand the doctrines of your religious faith? If you are not religious, do you have a personal doctrine you believe and live? I don't have religion, I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I believe in the Word of God-the Bible. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. He died on the cross for our sins. He rose on the third day. I believe in the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three in one. When you believe in Jesus, you are saved by grace. You can't earn this. You put your trust in Him and try to obey the teachings of Jesus. I believe in what Jesus said below. Only God knows the true heart of a person. He is the only judge.

I have a black and tan long haired mini doxie named Minnie.
Minnie and her mom Rey

3. Do you have a favorite décor style... as in classical, traditional, modern, mid century, colonial, etc?  I would say most of what we have is traditional. I also have pieces of furniture inherited by my parents. Most of my bedroom has antiques still waiting for a make over.  What do you like about it? Comfortable and functional. I had a formal living room and dining room at my last home. It was nice, but not very practical. I am in a smaller home, and I have grandkids. We have comfy couches that I don't have to worry about when they are here. I had a beautiful coffee table my parents gave me.  I loved it but it was too big for this house, so I gave it to my sister. I was with her this weekend and it makes me happy to see it at her house. She gave me a mirror and chair.

4. Are there any books or movies you want to see this summer?
We just saw Redeeming Love and it was really good. I read the book long ago and again during the Covid lockdown. I am currently reading a book called When Jesus Wept by Bodie Thoene. It is a fictional book about the relationship of Jesus and Lazarus, brother of Mary and Martha. I have read the 12 books of the AD Chronicles, written by Brock and Bodie Thoene. Each book focuses on people that Jesus encountered during his life. I might re-read them again if I get a chance.

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Rapid Roy (The Stock Car Boy) 1972.  Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The lyrics tell us that every Sunday afternoon we can find Roy at the racetrack. What are your plans for Sunday? I got to church on Sundays. Sometimes we go out to lunch and then we relax the rest of the day at home. I hope to do some Bible journaling.

2) Roy is fearless behind the wheel of his '57 Chevrolet. But it's just natural to feel fear every now and again. What scares you? Dying young and or in a painful way. I don't want to put that on my kids.

3) Roy's been photographed grinning with a toothpick in his mouth. Do you often use toothpicks? If so, do you carry them with you? I prefer to use ortho pics.

4) Legend has it Roy learned to drive fast when he ran moonshine out of Alabama. Moonshine usually refers to illegally produced whiskey. What was the last alcoholic beverage you drank? I had a couple of sips of my husband's margarita from our Valentine lunch on Monday.

5) This week's featured artist, Jim Croce, attended Villanova University, where he played in a band that performed at fraternity parties. When his band was chosen to tour Africa as part of a cultural exchange program, he was excited to learn his host countries' customs. Have you ever traveled overseas? What did your trip teach you? No, I have not.

6) Jim met his future wife, Ingrid, at a party. They discovered that they both loved Joan Baez and Woody Guthrie. Tell us about one of your friends, and what you two bonded over. I made a new friend around 3 years ago at lifegroup. Her name is Linda. She is fun to be with and very giving and loving.

7) Early in their marriage, while Jim was working hard to launch his music career, Ingrid helped make ends meet by baking bread and canning fruits and vegetables. Do you have any frugal cooking tips or "cheap eats" recipes to share? There is a recipe that is comfort food for me. Cook hamburger meat with onions, garlic, salt and pepper. Cook pasta, rinse and drain. Add the pasta to the meat mixture. Add a can tomato sauce along with a can of water, more if you want it to be more brothy.  Add more seasoning to taste. I also like to add cooked zucchini. Serve and top with grated cheese.

8) In 1972, Mark Spitz became a sensation, winning seven Gold Medals for swimming. After making money in endorsements and TV appearances, he settled into a career as a realtor in Los Angeles. Are you contemplating a change in residence anytime soon? Nope, I will probably be here until I transition to heaven.

9) Random question: Which of these "top ten" lists would you prefer to be on -- the sexiest, the smartest or the richest? The richest, so I can share the wealth with family and friends.

Thankful Thursday

Thankful and blessed to see our grandkids at church.

Thankful for Facebook memories. Picture taken at church.

Having lunch at one of our favorite places for Valentine’s Day!
We love antique shopping at Old Town Orange Circle.

Thankful to be able to Bible journal with my grandkids.

Thankful for a husband that goes to see a love story with you at the movies.
We say Redeeming Love, based on the book of Hosea.
I read that book by Francine Rivers years ago and again during the lockdown.

Thankful to be able to lead Bible journaling with my lifegroup friends.
I am off to do that in awhile. Theme is on love.

Thankful for this reminder on Random Act of Kindness Day.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I just love when I see all the grands at church!
Sunday was a fun day! We went to my son's house to watch the Superbowl game. He made spaghetti with meat sauce, air fryer cooked chicken and sourdough buttered toast. We also had a salad and hubby got pizza for the kids. Everyone was routing for the Rams since we are in So Ca. What a close game! I was busy crafting while watching the game. Hubby and I are going to the cemetery today in Orange, then hitting a few antique stores before having lunch. When we get home, we will have all 4 grands over. We will be baking cupcakes and cookies and hopefully Bible journaling. Enjoy your day and God bless you!

Thankful Thursday/Health Update

Thanks to those who prayed for me concerning my colonoscopy. I prayed for strength on Sunday and Monday. Monday was all liquid going in and out! I had to drink 8 ounces of solution every 15 minutes from 6pm -9pm. They recommend you chill the drink first, but it made me too cold. I could drink it much easier at room temperature. I kept busy crafting while standing up. I got to bed around midnight when I stopped having to run to the bathroom. Then I woke up at 2:20am on my own and had to drink 4 more glasses. We left at 7am and I checked in at 7:50. After checking to see if we had drivers, 4 of us were checked in. The long room must have had 12 beds. We undressed and all our items went on a shelf under the bed. I got an IV and heart monitor put in place. I had to answer several questions. I was shaking in part to nerves and because it was cold! They wrapped a heated blanket around my shoulders and another two on top of me. I was having a little bit of heartburn from taking 4 mint flavored tablets with the yucky drink taken earlier. I was warm and getting sleepy when the nurse said it was my turn. I got to the room and Dr. Chen said hello and mentioned that this was our third visit. I told them to be careful with my right hip. They asked me several questions to make sure I knew what I was having. They help me turn to my left side and made sure I was comfortable. They put the mask on my face and that is the last thing I remember. Before I knew it, I was back home. Hubby brought me some water while I was sitting down. Then I told him I was going to bed. I must have fallen right to sleep and slept for four hours. When I woke up, I asked my husband what happened in recovery.  I don't remember getting dressed or anything. This was my third time having a colonoscopy and I remembered the recovery process from the previous two. I guess I was super tired or maybe it was the Demerol. I had no pain.

I am thankful for getting this image on Monday.

I am thankful for an attentive hubby that took care of me.He helped me change in the recovery room, got me in and out of the car and up the stairs. He brought me chicken soup, crackers and applesauce.

I am thankful to have good insurance. There was no out of pocket cost for the solution or the procedure.

I am thankful for the attentive staff and Dr. Chen. He retired but came back to help because so many procedures had been put on hold because of Covid.

I am thankful that my kids all checked to see how I was doing.

I am thankful that I could sleep through the night.

I am thankful that I could rest today. Hubby and I watched several shows and the Olympics figure skating.

I am thankful for my dog Minnie who stayed by my side.

I am thankful that I had no polyps and so I don't have to have another colonoscopy for 10 years!

I am thankful for your concern and prayers!

Tuesday 4 Food

This week let's talk about food and menus past and present....

1. What was your favorite meal as a child? As a teen?  As a young adult and what is it be now? It will always be my mom's recipe for hamburger meat tacos. Home made shells, meat with diced potatoes, just my all time favorite!

2. What did Mom make for breakfast? Lunch?   Dinner?    Do you recall the menus? My mom liked to make cream of wheat with toast. Dry cereal on busy days. Not sure about the eggs. My dad would make breakfast on Saturdays. Either pancakes or potatoes, eggs and bacon.   In grade school we took lunch most days. We probably had bologna, egg, tuna and deviled ham sandwiches. A bag of chips and an apple. We usually bought milk at school. Dinner varied. Some days it was Mexican. I loved my mom's beef stroganoff and stews. Anything she made was good. She taught me how to cook when I was around 11 or 1 2. My mom worked most of the time. She would do prep and then I just had to cook. Once my school schedule got busy, I didn't cook as much. I remember her making several meals on Sunday evenings and some went in the freezer. I just had to follow instructions. I was the oldest, so I did the most until my younger sisters were older.  We would go to one of my grandma's houses on weekends when we were young. Now I eat an egg everyday for protein. I may have oatmeal and toast with it. Sometimes I add veggies. I do enjoy breakfast and my coffee that is only half caffeine. I love to add flavored creamers.

3. How was dinner time as a young newly wed? Plain.. fancy?  Set the table of just catch as catch can?  If you aren't married, how was dinner living on your own?  Do you invite people over or to go out to eat? I always set a table when we were first married. Not fancy, but still nice. Hubby and I did not eat together all the time depending on our work schedule. We tried to eat together as a family when the kids were young. I worked swing shift until my daughter was 5 and did most of the cooking and hubby had cleanup since I had to go to work. When my daughter was 5, I went to days and hubby and I drove to work together and we cooked dinner together. By then, the kids were in Jr. High and high school, and we would get fast food. Miguel's became the favorite taco place. Fancy meals were usually just for holidays. My mom taught us how to set a nice table with linen, candles and nice napkins. On occasion I will use my Noritake China.

4. Is it important for family to eat together at the table in the evening or for breakfast?  Why do you think so or not? I think it is more important at dinner. Everyone has different schedules in the morning. Some want to sleep in on the weekends. My husband is an early bird and I am a late bird.

Funny to be doing this assignment on a day I can't eat food(Friday). Colonoscopy today. Please keep me in prayer if you see this early. My appointment is at 8am. I will be lucky if I get 3 hours of sleep. Thank you!

Sunday Stealing

These are the 15 questions that Stephen Colbert asks his guests.

 1. The Best sandwich BLT with avocado.

2.  Something you own that you really should throw out. Lots of things! An old bathing suit.

3.  The scariest animal I hate snakes!

4.  Apples or oranges Apples, there are so many kinds. I eat them alone, in a salad, with peanut butter or even cooked on the stove with butter, cinnamon and brown sugar. I do like oranges, but I can't eat citrus.

5.  Have you ever tried to get an autograph from someone? Yes, Patsy Clairmont, Kay Arthur and Jennifer Rothschild, all Christian speakers and writers. Pictures are here.

6.  What happens when you die? I have been with my parents and grandparents as they died, and it was so sad. But as a Christian I know I will see them again in Heaven.

7.  Favorite Action movie The Original Star Wards movie. I have seen them all.

8.  Window or Aisle? Window

9.  Favorite smell Since my granddaughter just baked cookies, I say cookies. I also like the smell of rain, puppy breath and fresh baked bread. Oh, I can't forget the lavender I diffuse every night.

10.  Your most popular app on your phone. Word with Friends, Instagram. I use my laptop to go on Facebook. I use to love to play Farmville.

11.  Least favorite smell. Throw up.

12.  Cats or dogs? Dog

13.  If you can only listen to one song over and over for the rest of your life, what would it be? When I was a youth, our choir learned The Lord is my Shepherd. I learned the whole Psalm 23 from this song. I sang it to my babies as I rocked them, and I sang it to my grandbabies as I rocked them. When I can't sleep, I sing it. I have not been able to find the music. I need to sing it to my granddaughter so she can learn to play it on the piano and learn to sing it. I would like for her to play it at my funeral.

14.  What number am I thinking of? (I will answer honestly) 5

15.  The rest of your life in 5 words. Share the love of Jesus.
